Growing up in an Indian Hindu household, religion was a significant part of my life. Yet I was never really connected to this part of my life. In my early teenage years, my older sister became interested in Christianity and converted when she went to college. This decision would profoundly impact my relationship with our parents. My sister was always someone I looked up to. Despite the fights and the arguments, we had, she was someone I could rely on. My sister always told me to carve my path and not bend to change myself for anyone else's satisfaction. I started researching the religious aspect of my life- that I had never once questioned. When I first started seeking, the Community was welcoming and supportive, and I found comfort in the teachings and principles of Christianity. My best friend helped with bible study every Friday at her house, and I would manage to come to these studies and felt overwhelmed by the Godly presence in that household. This decision would ultimately strain my parents and relationship. However, it was the best decision I ever made. At seventeen, my dad walked into my room and told me he would disown me if I followed in my sister's footsteps. However, I wasn't following my sister because I saw how independent and happy she was out of the house. I wanted to carve my path. For once, I felt connected to a part of my life that had previously taken up my whole life. Despite my parents' objections, I continued to explore my faith. Though this has caused a significant strain on my relationship with my parents, I realize that despite the disagreements in my life, I must honor and respect them still. To this day, I continue to practice my faith and respect them, and it is through this experience that taught me to support my family and friends regardless of our perspectives. In college, I hope to be in a safe and welcoming environment. Where on campus, I can also help others of a similar background to feel welcomed. Through my medical career, I hope to engage in medical mission trips worldwide to spread God's miracles and help those who do not always have access to healthcare. I started donating toys and aid to Samaritan's purse, an organization that aids in helping children all around the world and contributes to those in need. I want to bring my experience and spread joy and comfort to those who were not accepted like me through God's miracles!

As a child, I loved to sit in my garden for hours and unload several questions inside my head, ranging from what I would eat for dinner to figuring out which clouds looked like animals. Today my curiosity drives me to learn new things. I've spent numerous class periods speaking with teachers regarding topics beyond the scope of the material. With each conversation, I walked away with new insights. I took my dad to the emergency room for the first time as a 12-year-old. I had never experienced anxiety before, and I wondered endlessly by researching his spine fracture. I tried endlessly to distract myself from what was happening with coloring books and phone games. Yet, I found comfort in researching his condition. Scrolling through endless Wikipedia articles, I immersed myself in the knowledge and wanted to share it to comfort the rest of the family. "A spine fracture could very well lead to nerve paralysis and permanent spinal cord injury yet with the correct procedure could very well be avoided." My mother smiled at me, knowing I was trying to comfort her. After my father was doing well, our family and our doctor were able to make significant changes to his lifestyle and diet habits to help reduce the risk of his spinal injury. In the moment of chaos, I know now that seeing everyone smile for a split second was enough to realize this was one of my missions in life. My first job in the healthcare field was at a primary care clinic as a medical insurance biller, where I helped patients verify their benefits and comforted them in times of worry about their bills. Currently, I am not sure if I want to work in the medical field or purely in healthcare; however, the prospect of providing comfort to others is something I value. Even though I am not an Adventurer, I've learned to venture my path. In college, I will continue to engage in the unknown to better understand the world around me. I hope to use this value throughout my life, whether in discussions with fellow healthcare students. I'll ensure I share my knowledge and listen to others to improve the community's awareness and reassure those in need. I plan on majoring in public health at Baylor University as a diverse major in the world of Health. With this money, I will be able to use it towards my college cost, maximize the resources and experiences, and help set me up for a successful career down the line.
