I remember when I sat down my junior year knowing that it was finally time to choose a career path. I wasn't too sure about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, as that was a big decision to make. I started noting some aspects that were interesting to me. I knew that I enjoyed studying science. That was always my favorite subject in school. I then knew what drives me to success is taking care of people. I conducted more research into these traits and found that my goal is to work in the healthcare system. I now attend Iona University as a nursing major with an interest in graduating with a BSN and becoming an RN. The summers before I attended college, I volunteered in a nursing home as well as worked in an assisted living facility that specialized in memory care. This allowed me to gain critical knowledge that will help me in the future. This past summer I worked at a program tailored for people with disabilities, mainly traumatic brain injuries. These experiences allowed me to broaden the knowledge and understanding that goes into working one-on-one with patients in my care. This has also shown me that I have chosen the right career path because caring for patients is what makes me happy and gives me an overwhelming feeling of joy every time I drive to work. I also chose this career path to make a difference. You always hear stories when people go to doctors or the hospital and the nurse isn't too friendly or the patient feels ignored and so on. I chose to become a nurse to make an impact on the world. I understand the feeling if you are in a hospital bed and can not care for yourself. It is so important to make an impact on your patient and be there for them whether it is having a small conversation or just asking how their day is. My goal is to do more than just what is assigned to me. I strongly want to make a difference and make sure my patient is my preferred care. I want them to feel loved, welcomed, and most importantly safe. I am applying for this scholarship in hopes of gaining enough money to finish my studies. I can not wait to see what the future holds and to start my journey!

My mom has been the one who inspired me to be the person I am today. She came from absolutely nothing and still provided the best she could for her children. I will forever envy her. She has the best personality a person can have. She went through a number of health problems such as cancer, a stroke, and seizures. I was always in the hospitals and doctors with her when I was growing up. She never lets anything stop her.
