American Dream Scholarship
To me, the American Dream isn’t about having everything handed to you, it’s about having the opportunity to work for something meaningful and the chance to build a better life for yourself and the people you care about. It’s about starting where you are, using what you have, and working hard to go further than you ever thought you could.
As a Canadian studying in the U.S., I’ve seen firsthand how this idea can take shape. My dad moving to Maryland for work is one example. He left behind the comfort of what he knew in Canada to pursue a better future, and watching him adapt and thrive in a new environment has shown me what grit and determination can accomplish. My uncle did the same thing years ago when he moved to the U.S. from Canada as a young man. He worked hard, built a life here, and proved that the American Dream is achievable if you’re willing to put in the effort.
For me, the American Dream is about opportunity, the kind that’s available to anyone, no matter where they come from. It’s about creating a level playing field where people can succeed through their hard work, resilience, and determination. At the same time, it’s not just about personal success; it’s about helping others succeed, too. The dream isn’t just individual; it’s collective. If we’re all striving to be better and help each other along the way, we create stronger communities and better opportunities for everyone.
As a student-athlete pursuing a degree in business and finance, my version of the American Dream includes using my education and skills to empower others. Growing up, I saw how challenging it can be for immigrant families, like mine, to navigate systems they aren’t familiar with. Whether it’s financial systems, education, or finding a sense of belonging, the path can feel unclear. My dream is to use what I’ve learned to help make that path easier for others. I want to create tools and resources that make things like financial literacy and economic opportunity more accessible, especially for people who’ve had to start over in a new country like my family did.
The American Dream, for me, also means breaking through barriers and proving what’s possible when you don’t give up. Moving to the U.S. for college hasn’t been without its challenges, but it’s also opened doors I never imagined. I’ve learned the value of stepping outside of my comfort zone and putting myself in situations where I can grow. That, to me, is at the heart of the American Dream: growth. It’s the idea that if you work hard, stay determined, and make the most of your opportunities, you can go further than you ever thought possible.
This dream motivates me to keep pushing forward, not just for myself but for the chance to give back to others. It’s not just about where you end up; it’s about the journey and the impact you make along the way. That’s my definition of the American Dream: a vision of opportunity, effort, and shared success.
Goobie-Ramlal Education Scholarship
As a Canadian studying in the U.S., my journey has been shaped by my family’s experiences and the sacrifices they’ve made to give me the opportunities I have today. My dad recently moved to Maryland for work, which gave me the chance to study in the States and work toward my goals. My uncle also immigrated from Canada to the U.S. when he was young, carving out a path for himself and showing me what it means to take risks and create something better for the next generation.
Being part of an immigrant family has taught me a lot about adapting to change, staying grounded, and working hard no matter what life throws at you. Moving to the U.S. for college was definitely an adjustment, but I’ve come to appreciate how it’s helped me grow as a person. Seeing my dad build a new life in Maryland while I balance being a student-athlete in a new country motivates me every day to make the most of my education and opportunities.
I’m studying business and finance, with a minor in economics, because I want to make a difference in the world—especially for people like my family who’ve had to navigate unfamiliar systems. Growing up, I saw firsthand how confusing financial systems can be and how much of a difference access to good resources can make. My goal is to help bridge those gaps, whether it’s by educating others about financial literacy or creating programs that help immigrant families get a fair shot at success.
Being Canadian in the U.S. has given me a unique perspective on what it means to blend cultures and values. I want to use what I’ve learned from my own experiences to help others—whether that’s in their personal finances, building their businesses, or simply finding their footing in a new place. My vision is to create more accessible financial tools and programs, so no one has to feel left out or stuck because they didn’t grow up understanding the system.
This scholarship would mean a lot to me because it represents everything my family has worked for. My dad’s move to Maryland and my uncle’s earlier journey both remind me that success isn’t just about yourself—it’s about helping others and making the world a little better than you found it. That’s what I want to do with my education, and this scholarship would help me take one step closer to making that vision a reality.
Breast Cancer Awareness Scholarship in Memory of Martha Dickinson
Growing up, my family faced the challenge of my stepfather’s battle with cancer for three years, which deeply impacted my perspective on life, health, and family. His diagnosis taught me the importance of resilience and the profound effect that cancer has not only on the individual but on their loved ones as well. This experience was a pivotal moment in my life, fostering an understanding that early detection and prevention are crucial in the fight against cancer.
In addition to my stepfather’s illness, my aunt was also diagnosed with breast cancer, though her journey was much shorter. She was diagnosed, went through treatment, and unfortunately passed away within a year. Her battle was quick and intense, but it reinforced the urgency of early detection. Through these two experiences, I have learned firsthand how important it is to be vigilant about one's health and to encourage loved ones to do the same.
The key to fighting cancer is early detection, and for breast cancer, self-exams, regular mammograms, and staying informed about one’s family medical history are vital. These tools can significantly increase the chances of identifying cancer in its early stages, which leads to better outcomes. Genetic testing also plays an important role in this process, as it can identify individuals at a higher genetic risk, especially those with mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. For people like my aunt, who had no known genetic predisposition to breast cancer, the diagnosis still came as a shock. However, for others who may have a family history or genetic markers, genetic testing can be a game-changer in preventing and detecting cancer before it spreads.
Having witnessed my aunt’s quick battle with breast cancer and my stepfather’s longer fight, I’ve become an advocate for raising awareness about the importance of screenings and genetic testing. I actively share information on how early detection can save lives and encourage those around me to talk to their doctors about the screenings that are right for them. Through my involvement in local cancer awareness campaigns, I’ve volunteered and educated others about self-exams, mammograms, and how to access genetic counseling. I believe that by spreading knowledge and providing support, I can help others avoid the heartache of late-stage cancer diagnoses.
The role of genetic testing in the prevention and early detection of breast cancer cannot be overstated. It helps individuals and families make more informed decisions about their health and take proactive measures, such as starting screenings at younger ages or considering preventive surgeries. This knowledge is empowering, and I believe it is crucial for everyone, especially those with a family history of cancer, to consider genetic testing.
I believe I deserve this scholarship because of the personal experiences that have shaped my desire to make a difference. The challenges my family faced with cancer have inspired me to use my education and experiences to help others, especially in raising awareness about early detection, prevention, and genetic testing. I’ve learned that resilience and compassion are vital in overcoming adversity, and I am committed to using these values to support those facing similar struggles.
This scholarship will help me continue my studies and pursue a career where I can make a meaningful impact in healthcare, particularly in cancer awareness and prevention. I am driven to learn and share what I know to improve the lives of others, just as I have seen the importance of support and knowledge in my own family’s experiences
Stephan L. Wolley Memorial Scholarship
I’m Michael Tinnivlioglu, and I’m a student-athlete at Lycoming College, studying business and finance while minoring in economics. Originally from Montreal, my upbringing has shaped who I am today, both as a student and as an athlete. My family has always emphasized the value of hard work, discipline, and the importance of following one’s passions, which has been a cornerstone of my educational journey and athletic career.
Growing up, soccer was not just a sport, it was a family tradition. My father played semi-professional soccer as a goalkeeper, which inspired me to pursue the game from a young age. Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to a knee injury, but his love for the game and his perseverance in the face of challenges had a profound impact on me. From him, I learned that success isn’t just about talent, it’s about how you handle adversity and continue to push forward.
My family dynamic is one of support and encouragement. My parents have always made it clear that no matter the challenges, education comes first, and that hard work in both school and sports will open doors. They’ve taught me the importance of balancing my academic responsibilities with my athletic commitments. Soccer has not only been a passion but also a vehicle for growth, allowing me to develop leadership skills, discipline, and resilience.
At Lycoming College, I have continued to play soccer while maintaining a strong academic standing. Balancing my academic responsibilities with athletics has taught me time management and discipline, skills that will benefit me throughout my life. My experiences on the field have also given me a unique perspective on teamwork and leadership, which I apply to my academic projects and future career aspirations.
Looking ahead, I plan to use my business and finance degree to enter the finance or business world, with a focus on helping companies and individuals achieve financial success. I also aim to continue playing soccer, whether it’s through local leagues or coaching, as it’s an integral part of who I am. Coaching, in particular, is something I want to pursue further, as I find immense joy in helping others improve and reach their goals. I’ve had the privilege of coaching younger players and mentoring teammates, and it’s something I plan to continue long after my playing days are over.
In the long term, my goal is to create a balance between my career in business and my passion for soccer. Whether through managing a sports organization or coaching at a higher level, I want to contribute to the development of the sport and use my business acumen to improve the overall landscape of youth soccer programs. I believe my background in both fields will allow me to make a lasting impact, helping others, as my family has always helped me.
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to further my education and pursue my goals, and I look forward to using my skills and experiences to make a meaningful impact in the future
TEAM ROX Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have been driven by a deep passion for self-improvement and helping others achieve their potential. Growing up playing soccer, I learned the importance of discipline, teamwork, and resilience, values that shaped not only my athletic career but also my mindset in academics and life. As I transitioned from being a player to a student-athlete and a leader on the field, I found a profound sense of purpose in helping those around me improve and achieve their goals, whether that was helping teammates perfect their techniques or mentoring younger athletes in the community.
One of the most significant ways I have developed my skills in helping others is through my involvement in coaching. As I progressed in soccer, I began to take on informal coaching roles, starting with assisting at local camps and working with younger players. I realized that the impact I could make on others went beyond physical skills; it was about fostering a mindset of determination and growth. Through teaching others, I refined my own understanding of the game and of leadership. I also recognized that each individual has a unique set of strengths and challenges. I developed an ability to adapt my communication and teaching strategies to meet the needs of others, understanding that success is not always about pushing harder, but sometimes about building confidence and creating an environment where growth feels achievable.
As a student-athlete at Lycoming College, balancing academics with soccer has been both challenging and rewarding. It has deepened my commitment to helping others in my community. I actively mentor first-year students on our soccer team, helping them adjust to the rigors of college life and offering support on both the academic and athletic fronts. I’ve also volunteered to lead study groups for classmates, drawing on my own experiences with time management and discipline. I believe that by offering others the tools to navigate their challenges, whether they are in soccer, academics, or personal life. I can create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
In the classroom, I have always been passionate about understanding complex economic principles and finding ways to make them practical and relatable. My interest in business and finance has also extended to helping others navigate their own academic journeys. As a peer tutor for economics, I’ve spent hours working one-on-one with students to clarify difficult concepts, offering not just academic guidance but also motivation. In each of these instances, I have found immense fulfillment in seeing others succeed through the knowledge and support I was able to provide.
The most profound lesson I have learned through these experiences is that helping others be their best is not just about offering advice or instructions. It’s about understanding the individual, providing the right resources, and fostering an environment where they feel empowered to take control of their own development. I find purpose in the process of guiding others through their journey, and I believe that my ability to inspire and lead is one of the greatest strengths I bring to every challenge I face.
Ultimately, my experiences in soccer, academics, and mentoring have shaped my purpose: to continue helping others reach their full potential. Whether through coaching, tutoring, or simply offering guidance in challenging times, I am committed to using my skills to create an environment where individuals can thrive, both personally and professionally.
Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
Soccer has always been more than a sport to me—it’s a passion, a teacher, and a source of strength that has shaped my character and aspirations. Growing up in Montreal, I was introduced to soccer at a young age by my father, who played semi-professionally as a goalkeeper. Though his career was cut short by injury, his love for the game became the foundation of my own journey, instilling in me the values of discipline, perseverance, and dedication.
As a student-athlete at Lycoming College, I’ve learned to balance the rigorous demands of academics and athletics, a challenge that has sharpened my time-management skills and fueled my determination to succeed both on and off the field. Playing soccer at the collegiate level has taught me the importance of teamwork, resilience in the face of adversity, and the ability to lead by example. All qualities I aim to carry into my future career in business and finance.
This scholarship represents more than financial support; it represents an opportunity to fully commit myself to my education while continuing to pursue my dreams. As an international student, navigating the complexities of studying abroad has brought its own set of challenges. However, these experiences have also deepened my appreciation for the value of hard work and adaptability. This scholarship would alleviate financial burdens, allowing me to focus more intently on excelling in my studies, contributing to my soccer team, and participating in extracurricular activities that enhance my personal and professional growth.
Soccer has also been a source of resilience in times of hardship. It’s taught me to embrace challenges and see setbacks as opportunities to grow stronger. Whether it’s rebounding from a tough loss on the field or overcoming personal obstacles, soccer has shown me that persistence and belief in oneself can overcome almost anything. I carry this mindset into my academic and professional pursuits, constantly striving to be better and to make a meaningful impact in everything I do.
Looking ahead, I hope to combine the lessons soccer has taught me with my academic pursuits to make a positive impact in my community. My goal is to use my business degree to help others, whether it’s by mentoring young athletes, promoting financial literacy, or supporting underserved communities through economic empowerment programs. Just as soccer has been a transformative force in my life, I want to channel that energy into making a difference for others.
This scholarship would be instrumental in helping me reach these goals. It would allow me to continue pushing forward as a student-athlete, excelling both academically and athletically. More importantly, it would reaffirm my commitment to using my talents, education, and experiences to contribute positively to the world around me.
Soccer has taught me that every effort, no matter how small, contributes to something greater. It’s a lesson I live by every day, and it’s the driving force behind my ambition to succeed. Thank you for considering my application and for supporting students like me who are eager to turn their passions into meaningful contributions to society.
Jorian Kuran Harris (Shugg) Helping Heart Foundation Scholarship
My name is Michael Tinnivlioglu, and I am a business and finance major at Lycoming College, with a passion for creating opportunities and fostering positive change. As someone who grew up in Montreal, Canada, raised by my father, and later moved to the United States for college, I have developed a strong sense of adaptability, perseverance, and gratitude for the opportunities that have come my way. This scholarship would be a life-changing opportunity, helping me continue my education without financial stress, and allowing me to focus on my long-term goals of making an impact through financial literacy and economic empowerment.
Since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the way businesses shape society and create opportunities. I am passionate about using my degree to help individuals and communities achieve financial security and stability, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds. My long-term career aspiration is to work in financial advising or investment management, where I can use my knowledge to assist families, young professionals, and small business owners in achieving their goals. Ultimately, I hope to launch programs that promote financial literacy and create resources for those who may not have had access to them otherwise.
A pivotal moment in my journey was when I tore my labarum on my hip during my sophomore year of high school. As a student-athlete, soccer had always been a core part of my identity, and the injury felt like it had taken away a piece of who I was. It wasn’t just the physical pain of the surgery and recovery—it was the emotional challenge of watching my teammates play while I sat on the sidelines, wondering if I would ever return to the game I loved.
What helped me overcome that period was learning to focus on what I could control. I poured my energy into physical therapy, determined to come back stronger. At the same time, I discovered a passion for academics and leadership, which allowed me to channel my drive in new and meaningful ways. By setting small, attainable goals during my recovery, I rebuilt my confidence and resilience one step at a time. That injury taught me to persevere even when life feels uncertain, a lesson that continues to guide me in all areas of my life.
This scholarship would be instrumental in helping me continue my education, supporting my aspirations to make a positive impact on the world. It would not only ease the financial burden on my family but also allow me to focus on opportunities that will further my personal and professional development. Through this assistance, I can continue to grow as a student, a future leader, and someone who is committed to helping others navigate challenges and find their path to success.
Boyd J. Cameron Memorial Scholarship
Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by how businesses work and how they shape the world we live in. Growing up in Montreal and later moving to the U.S. for college opened my eyes to the importance of financial literacy, economic opportunities, and the role businesses play in creating change. Pursuing a business degree feels like the natural path for me because it aligns with my passion for understanding how systems work, my interest in financial planning, and my desire to make a difference in people’s lives.
My decision to study business stems from a personal drive to build a meaningful career that combines logic, strategy, and human connection. I’ve always been drawn to problem-solving, whether it’s figuring out how to manage my time as a student-athlete or creating financial plans that maximize resources and opportunities. Studying business provides the tools and knowledge I need to turn my ideas into actionable strategies, while also teaching me how to adapt to ever-changing challenges.
As a first-generation college student raised by a single parent, I’ve seen firsthand how financial struggles can impact families. My father’s sacrifices to provide for me have shaped my work ethic and my commitment to succeed. More importantly, they’ve fueled my determination to use my education to create opportunities for others. I’m pursuing this degree not only for personal growth but to empower those who come after me. I want to use what I learn in business school to provide resources and mentorship for people in underrepresented communities, helping them achieve financial stability and security.
Through my studies, I’ve realized that business isn’t just about numbers and profits—it’s about people. It’s about building connections, solving problems, and creating systems that help individuals and communities thrive. My goal is to combine my education with my experiences as an international student and athlete to inspire others. Being part of diverse environments has taught me how to work with people from all walks of life and adapt to different perspectives. This understanding will help me make an impact by designing inclusive financial solutions that address the needs of people from various backgrounds.
Looking forward, I plan to use my degree to launch initiatives that promote financial literacy and accessibility, particularly for young people and families. I’ve seen how a lack of understanding about finances can hold people back, and I believe education is the first step toward change. Whether it’s through starting my own financial consulting firm, working with community organizations, or partnering with schools to teach practical financial skills, I want to help people make informed decisions that lead to better futures.
Pursuing a business degree isn’t just about achieving my career goals—it’s about using the knowledge and opportunities I gain to create lasting, positive change. Whether it’s through providing financial stability for families, creating economic opportunities, or inspiring others to pursue their own dreams, I’m committed to making a difference. Business has the power to change lives, and I’m determined to use mine to leave a positive impact on the world around me.
Team USA Fan Scholarship
When it comes to cheering for Team USA, my favorite athlete has to be Christian Pulisic. As someone who has played soccer since I was a kid and continues to live and breathe the sport, I’ve always admired players who can elevate their game under pressure and inspire their teammates to do the same. Pulisic, with his skill, determination, and resilience, embodies everything I love about the sport.
Pulisic’s journey from Hershey, Pennsylvania, to playing for some of the biggest clubs in Europe is a story that resonates deeply with me. Watching him succeed at Borussia Dortmund and now Chelsea reminds me that hard work and perseverance can take you to heights that once seemed impossible. I relate to his journey in my own way, having transitioned from playing soccer in Canada to continuing my passion for the game in the U.S. His ability to adapt to new challenges and environments is something I’ve experienced personally, and it motivates me to keep pushing forward.
What I admire most about Pulisic is his ability to step up when it matters most. His performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, particularly when he scored critical goals to help the U.S. secure their spot in the tournament, was nothing short of inspiring. His drive to carry the weight of the team, even under immense pressure, reminds me of why I love soccer—it’s not just about individual talent but about showing up for your team when it counts.
Pulisic also represents hope for soccer in North America. He’s shown that players from this side of the world can compete at the highest levels and earn respect on the global stage. As someone who grew up with a parent who played soccer semi-professionally and always dreamed of seeing the sport grow, Pulisic’s success gives me hope for the future of the game here.
Cheering for Pulisic isn’t just about celebrating his goals or assists. It’s about watching someone who plays with heart and represents the values of hard work, resilience, and passion for the game. He reminds me why I fell in love with soccer in the first place and inspires me to carry those values into everything I do.
LeBron James Fan Scholarship
LeBron James is more than just an incredible basketball player to me; he is an inspiration on and off the court. As someone who grew up playing soccer and values the lessons sports teach about life, I see LeBron as the embodiment of what it means to use talent, work ethic, and influence to make a difference. His journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most iconic athletes in history resonates deeply with me, especially as someone raised in a single-parent household by my dad. Like LeBron, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and discipline in life.
LeBron’s work ethic is one of the main reasons I admire him. His relentless dedication to perfecting his craft reminds me of the effort I put into excelling as a student-athlete and in my academic pursuits. Watching him maintain excellence for 20 years inspires me to stay committed to my goals, whether it's improving my soccer skills or succeeding in my studies as a business and finance major. His ability to adapt, evolve, and remain dominant over two decades shows me that success isn’t just about talent but about consistency, hard work, and resilience—qualities I strive to live by.
Off the court, LeBron’s leadership and philanthropy make him a role model. His “I PROMISE” school, which provides education and support for at-risk youth, demonstrates his dedication to giving back to his community. Growing up in Montreal, I’ve seen how important it is for people to have someone who believes in them and invests in their future. LeBron’s commitment to helping others inspires me to think about how I can use my future career in finance to make a meaningful impact on underserved communities.
When it comes to the question of whether LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time, I believe the answer is subjective and depends on what aspects of the game you value most. While Michael Jordan’s legacy is unparalleled, LeBron’s versatility, longevity, and ability to dominate in all aspects of the game set him apart. He’s the all-time NBA scoring leader, yet he’s just as focused on setting up his teammates and elevating everyone around him. His ability to play and excel in multiple positions, combined with his unmatched basketball IQ, makes him a strong contender for the title of GOAT.
Ultimately, what makes LeBron James truly great isn’t just his stats or championships but the way he carries himself as a leader, mentor, and advocate for social justice. He proves that being an athlete is about more than wins and losses—it’s about using your platform to inspire others. That’s what makes me such a fan of LeBron James and what motivates me to emulate his qualities in my own life.

"everything i wanted"
This song speaks to the balance between ambition and self-doubt, something I’ve experienced as both a student-athlete and someone constantly working toward a better future. The line, “If I could change the way that you see yourself, you wouldn’t wonder why you hear they don’t deserve you,” reminds me of the importance of self-worth. It mirrors moments in my life where I’ve had to push past insecurities and trust in my own capabilities, whether on the soccer field, in the classroom, or during my journey of navigating life as an international student
"my future"
This song feels like an anthem of self-discovery and hope, two themes that have defined my life. Moving from Montreal to Maryland, then pursuing my education in the U.S., has taught me the importance of embracing change and looking forward to the future.
"idontwannabeyouanymore"
This song’s raw vulnerability strikes a chord, especially as someone who’s faced pressure to meet high expectations while balancing my identity and individuality. The themes of self-reflection and resilience echo my own journey. It reminds me of moments where I’ve had to overcome failures or doubt, particularly in my roles as a student-athlete and someone striving to make their family proud after growing up in a single-parent household.
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household with my dad as my primary caregiver has shaped me in ways I never fully appreciated until I got older. My parents divorced when I was three, and since then, my dad has been the rock in my life. Watching him balance work, parenting, and all of life’s challenges taught me invaluable lessons like, resilience, independence, and the importance of hard work. Despite the obstacles he faced, he always made sure I had what I needed and instilled in me the drive to chase my dreams and persevere, no matter what.
Being raised by my dad also gave me a deep sense of empathy for others. I saw how hard he worked to provide for me while always being present and supportive. His determination to give me the best life possible has inspired me to want to help others who face challenges of their own. That’s one of the reasons I’ve become so passionate about financial planning. I’ve seen firsthand how important stability and support can be, and I want to use my skills to give others the tools they need to build a secure and successful future.
This passion connects directly to my long-term goals. I envision myself working in finance, not just to achieve personal success but to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. Whether it’s helping families achieve financial stability, mentoring young people, or giving back to my community, I want to create opportunities for others to thrive. Growing up with my dad’s unwavering support has shown me how important it is to have someone in your corner, and I aspire to be that person for others.
At the same time, being raised in this environment taught me how to be resourceful and adapt to challenges. Moving from Montreal to Maryland for high school, and then attending college in Pennsylvania, pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow as a person. I’ve learned to embrace new environments, build connections with people from diverse backgrounds, and find ways to succeed regardless of the circumstances. These experiences have shaped how I approach my goals and how I want to help others achieve theirs.
While I don’t have every detail of my future planned out, I know that my focus will always be on making a positive impact. Whether it’s through a career in finance or another path, I want to use what I’ve learned from my own experiences to empower others. My dad taught me that even when life feels overwhelming, you can rise above it with determination and the right support.
Being raised by my dad wasn’t just a challenge, it was a gift. It gave me strength, perspective, and a drive to help others find their own path to success. That’s the kind of impact I hope to make, not just in my career but in every aspect of my life.
