Bio

Growing up in a first-generation household instilled in me a deep appreciation for the privileges and opportunities that are often taken for granted. Even as a naturalized US citizen, I recognize that I am fortunate to have access to resources and opportunities that are not available to everyone. My parents, who immigrated from Mexico and worked in low-skilled, labor-intensive jobs, faced many challenges and sacrifices in order to provide for our family. In times of economic uncertainty and market turmoil, it can be difficult for families like mine to maintain financial stability. However, I am determined to make the most of the opportunities that have been afforded to me, and to build upon the foundation that has been laid through my parents' sacrifices. I aspire to use my education and skills to help those who are marginalized or disadvantaged due to their race, ethnicity, or socio-economic status. I believe that my faith in God will guide and sustain me as I work towards this goal. I hope to use my blessings to bless others and to make a positive difference in the lives of those around me. Through my actions and example, I hope to inspire others to do the same, and to create a ripple effect of goodness and kindness in the world. Overall, I am driven by a sense of purpose and a desire to use my talents and resources to make a positive impact on the world.

    Growing with Gabby Scholarship
Over the past year, one of the biggest ways in which I have grown is in my ability to handle failure and rejection. This personal growth was inspired by a tough and disappointing experience I had last summer when I landed my dream internship, only to fail to receive a return offer at the end of the program. This was a difficult and humbling experience for me, and one that challenged me in ways that I had never anticipated. At first, I was devastated by this news. I had worked incredibly hard throughout the internship, and I felt like I had given it my all. I was also deeply disappointed that I would not be able to continue my journey with this company, which I had grown to love and respect. However, as I began to reflect on the situation, I realized that there were some valuable lessons to be learned from this experience. One of the main things that have changed for me over the past year is my attitude toward failure and rejection. I used to see these things as personal failures, and I would take them very hard. However, through this experience, I learned that sometimes things just don't work out the way we hope and that this is not always a reflection of our abilities or worth as individuals. I learned to embrace the challenges and setbacks that come my way and to see them as opportunities for growth and learning. Another way in which I have grown is in my resilience and perseverance. After failing to receive a return offer, I was faced with the difficult task of starting over and finding a new path forward. This was not an easy process, and there were times when I felt discouraged and uncertain about my future. However, I learned to keep going and to stay focused on my goals. I applied to new internships, worked hard to improve my skills and qualifications, and eventually secured another amazing opportunity for the summer of 2023. Through this journey of self-discovery, I have learned that personal growth is not always a straight line. There are ups and downs, twists and turns, and sometimes we need to take a step back to move forward. However, I have also learned that I am stronger and more capable than I ever realized and that I can handle whatever challenges come my way. I have learned that it is important to stay true to myself and to my values, and that I can find my way through even the darkest of

A man with a dream once said “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education”. Growing up as a first-generation student and a child of immigrants from Mexico, I have always understood the value of education and character in paving a path to success. My parents worked hard to support our family, often in low-skilled, labor-intensive jobs. In Mexico, education was not always a reality, and as a result, my family has been trapped in a cycle of poverty and survival. This type of background opens a unique perspective that less than 1% of people will ever experience. It instills an unmatched determination to succeed and it gave me a "Why" to my goals. This gave me the core of my identity which seeks education as the way out. I have always been driven to break this cycle and make a better life for myself and my family. In high school, I excelled academically, driven by a fear of failure and the desire to escape the shackles of poverty. Despite facing financial challenges during my senior year, I remained determined to pursue higher education. I worked a full-time job and taught myself about financial literacy and investing, using my savings to make investments in the stock market and trade currency pairs. I was accepted to Indiana University, where I am double majoring in Finance and Accounting. I quickly put all my efforts into my academics, earning a 3.9 GPA in my freshman year. I joined several investment clubs and gained real-world experience through an externship with Bloomberg LP. I applied for and was accepted to several finance and investment banking programs, including ones with Goldman Sachs and Citi Bank. Despite facing rejection in many of my job applications, I remained determined and eventually landed a summer analyst position with Morgan Stanley in NYC. I am grateful for the opportunities that my education and character have afforded me, and I am determined to make the most of them. I am passionate about finance and hope to use my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on the world. I believe that by breaking the cycle of poverty and providing opportunities for others, I can honor the sacrifices of my parents and pave a brighter future for generations to come. As my year ends a new one begins and my dream continues as the path to breaking the shackles is in the palm of my hands. I, a young man with a dream who thought intensively and critically about the function of education and character have crafted my path, and just as Martin Luther King Jr. said, “That is the goal of true education”.

My parents worked hard to support our family, often in low-skilled, labor-intensive jobs. In Mexico, education was not always a reality, and as a result, my family has been trapped in a cycle of poverty and survival. Throughout my high school experience, my Catholic faith has played a central role in shaping my character and guiding my decisions. I have always been a devout and committed member of my church community, participating in various programs and initiatives that have helped me to grow in my faith and to serve others. This foundation of faith has given me the strength and resilience to face challenges and to remain focused on my goals, even in times of crisis or uncertainty. However, when that 2022 summer ended I remember being told that I would not have the opportunity to come back. The rocket that took me up suddenly now crashed and I was back at stage 1. As that door closed so did a part of my mindset. I felt like I failed those around me and myself and almost thought it was the end of the world for me. However, the central role of my catholic faith is what kept me from breaking. For the first time in my life I was in a big city alone and emotional. It was at that point in my failure that I put all my trust in god and my faith. I knew he had a plan and I persevered through failure. Throughout my college experience, I have continued to grow in my faith and to find ways to serve others. I have participated in various service projects and have worked to build a strong community of believers on campus. I believe that by living a life of purpose and service, I can make a positive impact on the world and honor the sacrifices of my parents. The quality that I value the most in myself is determination. Growing up as a first-generation student with parents who immigrated from Oaxaca, Mexico, I have always been driven to succeed and make a better life for myself and my family. This determination has helped me to overcome many challenges and obstacles and has played a key role in my academic and professional journey. Currently, I am studying at Indiana University and double majoring in Finance and Accounting. These fields offer many opportunities for personal and professional growth, and I am determined to make the most of my education. I know that by working hard and staying focused, I can achieve my goals and create a bright future for myself. I have proven to myself I am capable and talented enough to compete amongst the best. My unmatched determination helped me balance the role of a full-time student involved in numerous workshops as well as running a business fraternity with over 160 members as the leading chapter president. In addition to my determination, I also value my desire to do good for the world. I believe that it is important to use our talents and abilities to make a positive impact on others, and to strive to be a force for good in the world. One way that I hope to make a difference is by launching programs that develop a pipeline for low socio-economic students. I believe that every person deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. By providing resources and support for these students, I hope to help them reach their full potential and make a positive impact on their communities. I believe that having determination and a desire to do good will be invaluable to me as I continue on my life journey. These qualities give me the strength and motivation to keep pushing forward, no matter what challenges come my way. They help me to stay focused on my goals and to always strive to be my best self. I am grateful to have these characteristics as a part of who I am, and I will continue to nurture and cultivate them as I move forward. In my personal and professional life, I try to live by these values and to be a role model for others. I believe that by setting a positive example and working towards a common goal, we can all make the world a better place. I am excited to see what the future holds, and I am confident that my determination and desire to do good will help me to make a meaningful impact on the world.
