Brandon Repola Memorial Scholarship
Starting a mold and air quality testing business while in college gave me a unique, hands-on introduction to the power of sales and marketing. At first, my focus was entirely on the technical side, conducting inspections, interpreting lab results, and ensuring the health and safety of my clients. But I quickly realized that no matter how valuable or high-quality my service was, it wouldn’t make a real impact unless people knew it existed, understood its importance, and trusted me to deliver it. That realization is what sparked my passion for marketing and sales.
I had to learn how to explain complex air quality issues in a way that everyday homeowners, property managers, and business owners could relate to. I discovered that effective communication was just as critical as technical expertise. I began experimenting with local advertising, educational content, word-of-mouth strategies, and social media outreach. I also had to learn how to sell, not in a pushy way, but in a way that built trust and helped people see the value of preventative health and environmental safety. The more I worked in this space, the more fascinated I became with the psychology behind consumer behavior, brand positioning, and relationship-building.
What motivates me most is the human element behind marketing. In my field, people often contact me when they’re concerned about their health or the safety of their living space. I realized that how I present myself, my service, and my message could make a huge difference in their level of comfort and decision-making. That experience taught me that good marketing isn’t about selling something, it’s about solving a real problem in a way that people can connect with.
Sales and marketing have become the tools I use to grow my business and help more people. They’ve taught me creativity, strategy, resilience, and empathy. I’m passionate about continuing in this field because I’ve seen firsthand how impactful it can be. I want to develop more advanced skills in digital marketing, branding, and strategic communication so I can build businesses that truly make a difference, whether it’s in environmental health or another industry down the line. Pursuing a career in sales and marketing isn’t just a professional goal; it’s a personal mission to connect meaningful services with the people who need them most.
Thank you for considering my application and for supporting students who are passionate about building their futures through education and entrepreneurship. This scholarship would not only help me continue growing my business while completing my degree, but it would also empower me to further develop the marketing and sales skills that are essential to making a lasting impact. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share my story, and I look forward to applying everything I learn to create meaningful change in my field and community.
