Some accomplishments I have achieved throughout my career in basketball were through grade school being a select few to receive a 500 point ball for one season, and then when I went on the high being apart of a state final four team that lost to the eventual state championships and then the year after making it to the second round of the state playoffs where we would ironically lose to the state champions again. I had also won 2 district championships while I was in High school being a contributor to a team that went 23-5 and 25-3. While doing all of this winning on the court was fun my life off of the court had taken some pretty serious turns for the worse starting off in my freshman year where my mother who was my biggest fan and supporter would be diagnosed with a rare medical disease called spinocerebellar ataxia, this has weaken her body muscles along with her functions in her brain which has caused her to no longer be the women I once knew, and she would no longer be cheering me on at any of my games, fast forward two years later and I am mid way through my junior season and some of the worst news I could have received at the time had hit me, my grandmother who was a true mother figure in my life after my mom had went mentally unstable, had finally gave into her resilient battle with cancer. This was a tragic blow to me and my family as she would considered to be the “glue” of our family. After these tragic events I couldn’t clear my mind of them and stress and anxiety had overwhelmed me except when I was out on the basketball court at practices or playing with my teammates they were a breath of fresh air away from all the terrible distractions happening off the court and they were there to support me throughout every single up and down I had faced. Basketball has taught me so many life lessons but the one that has always stuck with me is that throughout your life you are going to lose and it’s going to be how you change and what you do in the face of adversity when losing in life happens regardless of whether it is on or off the court. This will help me in college when I feel like I can’t do something that may be challenging or “to hard” but I will simply remember the people I have lost and the people I have to fight for and make sure that they know all the love and effort the put into me will pay off one day and that I will forever be grateful for every single obstacle in life that comes my way.
