Bio

I was born with a rare brain disorder called Amblyopia that affects my eyes. After treatments my eyes are fully functional. I’ve overcome many challenges and obstacles to become a Senior in high school. I’ve taken dance since I was 18 months old, played saxophone since 5th grade, a member of the Business Professionals of America, and currently working the nursery at church. I’m looking forward to graduation and going to college so I can pursue a degree in what I love to do and that is baking and cooking.

    Sylvester Taylor "Invictus" Hospitality Scholarship
I have been accepted to Lamar University and will be studying to get a Bachelors in Science in Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts and I will also be a member of the Lamar Cardinal Band as a saxophone player. I have chosen this area of study because as far back as I can remember I have always wanted a job in the culinary field. My interest was sparked as a very young girl after watching Disney’s Princess and the Frog and Ratatouille. I said one day, when I am older, I will open up my own restaurant like Tiana. Once I was old enough to start using the stove I learned how to cook and bake many different things and that is truly when I found that I do have a passion for being in the kitchen. The Chef that inspires me the most is Duff Goldman because of his creativity and knowledge as a baker. I enjoy cooking but I do love baking more. In my spare time I watch many cooking shows, Youtube videos on how to make different things, and I went to baking camps in the summer when I was younger. There are timeless days where I will search the internet trying to find new recipes for me to bake. When there is a break from school or I have extra free time I try to make something whenever I can. I have always considered being in the kitchen as one of my hobbies as well as a time when I am the most happy. I hope that one day I can use my passion of cooking and baking to make others happy as well. I enjoy finding different recipes and ideas that everyone loves and making them, especially my sister who has a lactose allergy, and can’t have desserts that are made with certain types of ingredients. Working in the kitchen never feels like a chore. A dream is a wish your heart makes that will come true and my dream is to one day go through the Disney College Program to be a Chef at Walt Disney World to help make other people's dreams come true too. I hope I can give someone the magical and hospitable experience that will live up to Walt Disney’s dream or even one day I will be able to own my own bakery or cafe like Tiana to provide desserts that everyone can enjoy. I feel like I will be a good candidate for this scholarship because I am a hard worker, dedicated, and committed to succeeding. I am looking forward to developing my skills in the culinary field and hope as a hospitality major that I can bring a smile to someone’s face everyday to make their world a little brighter.
