    Future of Aviation Scholarship
My name is Micah Schaeffer, and I am a rising freshman at the Citadel Military College of South Carolina. I am a first generation college student and have strong aspirations for commercial and military piloting. I have had an immense desire to fly for as long as I can remember. The idea of soaring through the air and carrying people and cargo to where they have to be had always thrilled me. My academic goals in aviation are to develop a full understanding of the technologies and skills required to successfully fly my plane of choice. My Professional goals in aviation are to become a highly successful pilot in the Air Force and to fly the F-22 Raptor, then to retire and become a commercial pilot. To achieve these goals, I am going to study at the Citadel to earn my bachelors degree and to contract with the Air Force. The Citadel is a military college, and it has extensive ROTC programs which will provide a direct course to becoming an officer in the military which will set me up with a guaranteed rank and position in the United States Air Force. Once I attend pilot training with the Air Force, I will achieve my goal of fully understanding the technology and learning the skills necessary to pilot my aircraft of choice. I will study religiously and give my training my all in order to get a high ranking in my training class to achieve the plane that I want to fly, the F-22 Raptor. Once I finish my training with the Air Force, I will have achieved my professional goal of becoming a successful pilot in the Air Force and will have achieved my education goal of proficiency on the F-22 Raptor. After that, I will serve at least 10 years in the Air Force and then retire. Once retired I will move on to flying for commercial airlines and earn a living, enjoy my older years, and achieve my final professional goal of becoming an airline pilot. I come from a family of 12. I am the eldest son of 10 children, all of whom live in the same house and are from the same parents. As the oldest of 10 children, I have had the unique opportunity to develop and hone my leadership skills from a young age. Growing up in a large family has instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility, loyalty and respect for authority and hard work. I also have gained the ability to manage diverse personalities and situations. One downside of being from such a large family with finances spread thin, is that the burden of paying for college is completely placed on me. I have worked part time jobs and saved up a decent amount of money to put towards tuition, but I’ve been forced to take out loans to fully cover the cost. Any monetary assistance would mean the world to me and my family.

I am a firm believer in the power of love, faith, and community service to make a positive impact on the world. Throughout my life, I have been deeply involved in various volunteer activities, guided by these principles and driven by a desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
