American Dream Scholarship
My American dream is to be a professional and athletically outstanding woman. Since I started studying, I heard the word "popular." I considered myself a shy and insecure girl. Because I didn't speak the language of this country, I had no friends or family around me.
But my parents supported me, to find values that I didn't know about. Making a radical change in myself, when for the first time my feet stepped on a mat, practicing the martial art of Jiu Jitsu. I did this because I am short and I know that I will not grow anymore. My father has always wanted the best for me, he thought that practicing this martial art would help me feel more secure.
But what he never imagined is the good that it would do me for the rest of my life.
I began to know what discipline and perseverance are. Participating in tournaments. Entering High School, Jiu Juitsu is not considered an academic sport within the school. My surprise was when I found out that there is a sport called "Wrestling" something similar to Jiu Juitsu.
This generated an adrenaline in my life that I would not change.
From this I learned something about myself that I can achieve the goals that one sets for oneself.
Taking into account that I do not have the same benefits as others, but I do have the ability to achieve more than others.
My mother always tells me "Make fear fear you."
And as a result, I am two-time champion of the city of Chicago, two-time champion of the Central Regionals, champion of the Grappler Fall Classic tournament, qualified three times for the state championship, qualified three times for the National championship, state champion in Freestyle, Champion of the Illinois Regional, Third place in the National Folkstyle Tournament, thanks to which I am a member of the Illinois state team.
My whole structure changed, from being a girl with not very good grades, to making the top 10 of my class. In addition to being recognized for sports, which makes me burst with happiness. For many, discipline and perseverance are a detachment from many diversions. For me, it is an incentive to be better every day. And thanks to this perseverance, I am an All-American without being American by birth but by heart. Because thanks to this country I learned that I was born to fight. That is being popular.
