My life's goal is to create art and advocate for mental health and social justice. Largely, I hope to find ways to use my artistry to breakdown mental health stigmas and be a voice for change. I'm an incredibly driven and ambitious individual, seeking to use my educational opportunities to create a positive impact on myself and as well as my community. I am taking currently steps towards my academic and artistic goals by pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama, with a concentration in Acting, from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

The human experience is not easily captured, but through the lens of Musical Theatre, it can be portrayed remarkably. I have always admired the power of storytelling, how artists harness their creativity to captivate an audience in the telling of a narrative. Whether through words, song, or dance, the ability to guide the audience along a story’s arc is an extraordinary honor and privilege. Musical theatre allows individuals to challenge modes of thought, explore the value of tension, and seek the deeper meanings of a text, pushing the individual to persevere outside their comfort zone. By pursuing musical theatre at the collegiate level, and beyond, I hope to continue my growth not only as an artist but also as an individual with a unique point of view.
Since I was eight years old, musical theatre has been my joy. I've always loved singing, and growing up, family gatherings were filled with music and karaoke. I feel the most at home while singing songs, dancing onstage, working with fellow actors. Every day in this field I learn more about myself and I feel I am constantly growing as a person. My participation in musical theatre has granted me the gift of being able to understand and relate to someone else’s story – to fully place myself in their shoes, no matter how hard, and discover their motivations and objectives. Embodying another person, another soul, broadens one’s scope of the world. Through theatre, I am better able to love and understand others, to embrace the idiosyncrasies of the individual and encourage them to flourish.
I am pursuing musical theatre because it fuels me. I thrive in environments in which I am able to connect with others and be a part of a community. This community is a beautiful tapestry of acceptance that supports expressing oneself and being an individual thinker. There is so much love within the theatre world and a very special sort of magic, unlike anything I've ever experienced. Furthermore, within this field I am able to make art with a purpose. In creating a direct connection with an audience, performers are able to be advocates. Musical theatre has empowered me to use my voice over the years, which I am excited to use to speak on issues important to me such as mental and public health.
Going into this field means that I allow myself the opportunity to follow my dreams. Musical theatre has restored my sense of confidence in myself, and I know that within this space I will always feel whole and heard. I know in my heart that I must pursue this career path as it fills me with a happiness that is unmatched by any other in this world. I seek to follow this joy and nurture it through my future academic and artistic endeavors. I am overwhelmed with excitement for my future in musical theatre and I cannot wait to see where this path takes me.
