When I think of aviation, I feel the thrill of flying and the passion to learn all that I can in order to be among the best pilots someday soon. From a young age, I have been interested in engineering as a whole. Starting from wanting to be a robotic engineer, then an aerospace engineer, and eventually evolving into myself striving after a career as a pilot. When I was younger, I had a neighbor who worked from home as an aerospace engineer. He showed me a lot of different things that he would work on as it related to his job. That is when I really fell in love with aeronautics. He even went as far as gifting me with a 3D printer. I was excited! I used the printer to make small things such as model rockets. This really struck my interest in flying. I found myself staring at the skies for hours and daydreaming about possibly piloting one of those incredible machines. My Papa noticed my growing interest as well and encouraged my fascination with books on aviation, documentaries, and stories about his old Navy pilot buddies. He told me about how he was good friends with the first African American Blue Angels pilot, Donnie Cochron, and the many things he did to achieve his goals. This constant exposure only strengthened my desire to become a part of this thrilling world. It made me realize even more that this is something I desire to do. It made me create a clear goal and have a vision for myself one day to be in one of those jets. In order to exemplify my desire more, I knew that good leadership skills go hand and hand with being a pilot. You are the one in control and you have to be a good leader in order to be safe and excellent at your job. A good leader is one who excels in communication, integrity, and adaptability. A leader with no communication is ineffective. A leader with no integrity is corrupt, and a leader who cannot adapt will never be ready for inevitable change. All three of these qualities are qualities a leader must possess. These are also qualities that I have and exemplify. Throughout my life, whether it was at school, home, or even sports, I portrayed these qualities of a leader. On the basketball court, I am decisive and take accountability for my mistakes. At home, I am innovative and adaptable, and at school, I can be resilient and collaborative. All of these qualities are why I know that I personify a leader and would do well in aviation. In conclusion, the role models in my life such as my Papa, Mom, Dad, and my neighbor Mark, all helped shape me into the flying enthusiast I am now. They each played a very important and unique role in eventually my choice of career path. I have become someone who displays many different qualities of a leader and those many different qualities will help me excel in my work field when I get to that point in my life.
