Last year was a rough one, I know worldwide we all were dealing with a pandemic at large but I had the death of 3 family members added on top of it. My family is very small and I lost my grandma, my aunt, and my papa. They always pushed me to pursue higher education and would say once I have my mind set to something, I can accomplish anything. I believe that my experience in the CSICU for four years as a nursing assistant has prepared me and has further shown me that nursing is what I’m meant to do. Especially during the pandemic and with the nursing profession being in the spotlight right now, I still now that I am going to make a difference in my community by becoming a nurse and having this scholarship would give me extra income to supplement the loss of my income by going per down at my job therefore giving me more time to dedicate to my studies. I know that with this scholarship I will make the most of the it by dedicating my time and my life by becoming the most compassionate, patient-care driven nurse. I aspire to do and be as passionate about my patients as she was and also advocate for the nurses and nursing staff that work with all patients in any type of setting and advocate for their mental health because how are we supposed to take of those whoa re sick when we are struggling ourselves. I currently work in a Cardiac Surgical ICU as an NA2/Monitor tech/ secretary and truly love the craft of seeing what my peers do and how they truly make a difference in their patient's lives and quality of life; seeing such strong advocates and having such strong ties to nursing, it only made sense for me to make a difference and want to be a part of that and then in the future, fulfill my dream of becoming a CRNA with my aunts favorite scrub cap and apply all the knowledge that Ive learned to make a difference in myself and my community that is meaningful. One of my close friends recently went on a trip to Africa and volunteered her services as a nurse to aid in settling a new hospital there and assisting in the creation of a CVICU program there to help decrease the high mortality rate of preventable deaths that occurred and when I become a nurse, I am going to Africa with her next time as part of my NCLEX pass gift to myself and do something meaningful for myself and also for their community. I am involved in mental health fairs that are hosted by the hospital where I am employed and assist in the screenings of patients who don't have the finances to receive the mental health care they need I also volunteer at the Child Advocacy Center which is a local in the city I live in and assist in minor things even as simple as dropping off donations or facilitating the food pantry's participation in the local festival that we have annually. I know that any sort of donation towards my career choice would be money well invested because I have high expectations of myself due to my high aspirations and I am now a second-year nursing student after passing my first year of nursing school with all high B's and I know with any amount of financial support I will continue to exceed my expectations of myself.
