      Do Good Scholarship
As a young girl, barbies simply did not fulfil my attention. Instead, I spend my days knees deep into the mud discovering new rocks and plants or chasing the geckos and squirrels in my neighborhood. As I grew older I became fascinated with building anything with my own two hands. I would go find my dad's tool box and mark the garage as my own personal lab. These experiments i would conduct ranged anywhere from making edible plastic with vinegar and milk to making a miniature carboard chair. In the 7th grade we were researching possible career choices. Thus, I came across Biomedical Engineer and I have stuck with it ever since. I will be attending Boston University in January of 2023 and have been accepted into the College of Engineering. Biomedical Engineering focuses on using engineering principals and applying them to the medical world, to either create medical equipment or treatment. By choosing this career path I will be helping identify what causes these patients pain. Such creating an easier MRI processes or possible develop new medical scanners. Doctors and other health care professionals would not be able to heal their patients without the help of Biomedical Engineers. Although I will not be hands on with patients, I know that I will be saving many of lives with a device I will create with my own two hands. Along with the invention of devices, Biomedical engineers also conduct research about specific diseases and are able to find possible cures or treatments. Not only will this career path challenge me creatively and critically; but I will be able to devote my time to those in need. As a first generation American and college student it was important for my to go to a great school. Due to my hardworking deminer and involvement with my community I was able to get into one of the top institutions in the country. The only thing keeping me from achieving this dream is the same obstacle many students have to overcome, tuition cost. With your help, I will be able to overcome this obstacle and achieve my career goal. By doing so I will help other little girls and boys be able to play outside again. I will help mothers and fathers be able to take care of their children again. I will help anyone overcome their health obstacle just as you have helped me overcome my financial obstacle.
      Minority/Women in STEM Scholarship
I walk into my physics class my first day of junior year. I came to the quick realization that I was the only girl in the entire class. How is a teenage girl supposed to feel when she is the only girl out of a class of 25, I was completely out numbered. At first I felt a little intimidated, most of the boys were already friends with one another and had already made lab partners, but me I stick out like a sore thumb. I worked by myself and kept to myself. This all changed once the boys found out that I was understanding the content and they weren't. This had empowered me, where once I was the minority but now I was the majority and I used my knowledge as power. The next year the same predicament occurred, where out of the 4,000 kids at my school I sat in my AP Physics C class which consisted of 3 students, me and two other boys. As I advanced my academic career, I looked back I realized I had always been the odd one out. As a women in a male-dominated world you have to do things a little differently. Growing up boys were always called the " stronger and smarter" gender. Even though women have always tried to grow out of this social normality, it still lingers throughout our world. I aspire to rise above these social norms and become a Biomedical Engineer. This career path allows me to combines my love for medicine and engineering, together I will be helping those in need with my own two hands. I have been accepted into Boston University's Biomedical Engineering Program and I have been invited to become apart of BU'S women in STEM program. My involvement within the program will allow me to not only collaborate with other girls with the same passion as me, but, allow me to inspire younger girls. I hope to become someone that younger girls can look up to, to set an example for many generations to come. With your help and my hard work and dedication to my studies, STEM would not be a " male- dominated " world, it will be a world of equal opportunity. I will create a positive stigma towards the sciences and hopefully make other peoples dreams seem as a reality instead of a dream. I want to create a warm and welcoming feeling to others just like me. Feeling discouraged often shifts people achieving their dream, however we need to rise up together to make the next generation of STEM female. Together, we will make this the new social norm and there would no longer be a singular girl in her physics class. Instead the class would be filled with girls and boys working together to create a better tomorrow.
