To whom it may concern, One day I hope to give underprivileged individuals a chance to improve their health, futures, and quality of life. I have had quite different experiences from the typical pre-medicine student, in that I majored in Human Development and Family Studies, taught at a Title I school, and most recently have worked as a kindergarten teacher. I have had a lot of involvement in working with students who classify in differentiated groups, Integrated Services, and assist groups. Through my encounters, I have seen that children and families in poverty and children of immigrant parents lack accessibility to basic healthcare needs such as seeing a doctor for sickness, injuries, physicals, etc. They are unable to focus on their futures as effectively, and additionally have a decreased chance of getting out of poverty. This is because they are subjected to putting more time and effort into meeting basic needs than others, because of a lack of resources. My desire is to utilize my degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University and my masters education from Regis University to allow resources for access to clean water and clean air to all. I will do this through my research in conservation, health, and environmental biology to find long term solutions for communities who do not meet the standard for clean air or water. I am only one person, and working with individuals who possess diverse and specialized skills is essential to strive for progress. For this I will rely on my outstanding problem solving and interpersonal skills that I will be utilizing and improving through my Regis education to bring attention to these issues to other experts in the field so that we may develop a solution in the most efficient and effective manner. There are many cities in the United States with untapped potential that will be unlocked if the peoples’ basic needs are met. When disadvantaged populations have access to quality healthcare, they are collectively improving their quality of life. This is what I hope to achieve through my course of study at Regis. If you would like to financially contribute to my goal, I would be honored for the opportunity to continue my education. Thank you for your consideration, Madelyn Gloe

I got a closer look at biology when I volunteered for UC Health for three years in the emergency department at Poudre Valley Hospital. It is through this experience that I knew I wanted to continue my education to become a biologist. It was my responsibility to assist PAs, physicians, nurses, and other hospital faculty in any situation, ensuring patients and families’ needs were well met. I was able to help children and families in stressful and scary situations, which gave my life purpose. In my view, having purpose and living a fulfilling life allows for me to be happy. Also as a volunteer, I was also often called to other areas of the hospital. I was able to spend time on every floor in every department with many different specialties. The simple pleasure of learning made me happy because I have been able to grow in my passion and create wonderful relationships with staff and patients. By far, my favorite department was pediatrics, because the patients captured my heart. Children do not always react the same way to medical situations as an adult may react. Pediatric patients are playful, sincere, and trusting. It has inspired me, and my goal is to work in pediatric biological research so that I may change lives like I saw so many others do during my time.

One experience that has shaped who I am is being a kindergarten teacher. This experience has given me valuable skills on discipline, presenting, speaking, managing, and being a leader. Everyday I am surrounded by so much love, which has also affected how I choose to view life. My philosophy is to take life as it comes, one day at a time, and be grateful for those who make my life meaningful and purposeful.

As a kindergarten teacher, I try to make a positive impact every day. I clearly express positive expectations that help improve social emotional and academic success. I work hard to present students with equal opportunities and participation. Additionally, I express to each child their ability to succeed not just academically, but as a whole person. My goal is to act as a resource and role model to children, and help them my very best to become confident, kind, thoughtful individuals.
    Bold Influence Scholarship
The main thing that I would stand for is equality in education for all. Equality is so necessary in education because it allows students to have the same opportunities to begin with positive educational outcomes. Additionally, students would be able to start off with beneficial equity to help ensure that those equal opportunities are adjusted for those who may require extra help. As a current teacher, not all students have access to the same quality education. Regardless of students' backgrounds, they should be able to access the same high quality education. I would stand for the process of reforming practices, policies, and procedures at district levels. These procedures would be geared towards academic fairness support and inclusion to ensure all students have the resources to be successful. This includes teachers, materials, and interventions. I would make sure that services provided are fair and accessible to those in need academically. Most importantly, I would stand to ensure students are treated as equals so that they may receive dignity and respect and that their differences may be celebrated.
    Bold Be You Scholarship
I stay true to myself daily with the following advice. First, I am very real with myself. This honesty and self-awareness has not come easy, however after much time I am able to be environmentally conscious in my situations and benefit socially and emotionally. I have learned to say no to serve my best interests and create boundaries within my relationships. In doing this, was able to find supportive relationships I can count on. Additionally, I let go of anything that does not positively impact my life. Through trusting my intuition, small acts of self-care, and creating a joyful life, I am able to act according to my beliefs and do what I think is right. Because of it, I live a joyful, peaceful, meaningful, and fulfilling life.

    Bold Dream Big Scholarship
My dream life looks fulfilling, full of purpose, and satisfying in my eyes. In this vision, my relationships are joyful and meaningful, my career regards something I am passionate in and purposeful, and my life is stable financially, physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. My goals are to take my education and pursue meaningful research in space exploration. In my dreams I would work for a space company to research astrobiology of specifically plants and plant growth. What does this look like? It could be many things. This work would be fulfilling and purposeful because advancements in plants and crops lead to advancements in our food, which can hopefully create a new method for food growth or storage that is sustainable. On the other hand my dream life would allow myself time for my passions such as skiing, hiking, camping, violin, and sports. Incorporating both work and play into a healthy lifestyle is what I dream to do. My plan is to make home a place I want to return to when I travel, which includes surrounding myself with meaningful relationships, career satisfaction, and peace. Most importantly, in my dream life I never want to stop learning. My goal is to develop more holistic perspectives through educating myself on something new everyday, whether it be researching, a new language, cultures, stories, etc. My dream life will have fulfillment, joy, accomplishments, and purpose; and I plan to leave this world better than I came into it.
    Bold Science Matters Scholarship
My favorite scientific discovery is the effect of nose angle and match number on transition on cones at supersonic speeds. This investigation was discovered by K. R. Czarnecki and Mary W. Jackson in 1958. This discovery found the transition characteristics of cones over a Mach number range to find the Reynolds number. Overall, this discovery helped NASA to get astronaut John H. Glenn into space on the Mercury-Atlas 6 mission on the Friendship 7 spacecraft. This is my favorite scientific discovery because this knowledge allowed the first American to orbit the moon, as well as allowed many other space expeditions to occur safely. Additionally co-author Mary Jackson became the first female black engineer at NASA. Jackson overcame many obstacles to promote black women in STEM. Overall, the advancement of women and STEM and space exploration are very important to me, making this my favorite scientific discovery.
    Bold Financial Literacy Scholarship
A personal finance lesson that I find very important is budgeting. Budgeting allows one to create and saving and spending plan with money. It ensures that one will have enough money for requirements such as the cost of living, and then allowing spending on things, events, and experiences important to an individual. Most importantly, the concept of budgeting when done correctly keeps an individual out of debt, or helps one work his or her way out of debt. When one has learned the skill of budgeting it allows for additional lessons such as prioritizing, impulse control, tracking, and planning. Budgeting has personally helped me remain focused on my financial goals, which I am grateful for. Thank you.
    Suraj Som Aspiring Educators Scholarship
Spirituality, science, and math are all interconnected closely. All prove certain point of views, whereas sometimes are different depending on what lense one decides to look through. Science and math exist on a process regarding nomination and refutation based on hypothesis with a rational criteria. Spirituality incorporates esoteric or religious themes. Overall, my philosophy on the relationship between the three is dependent on the situation. Whether my point of view requires rational versus esoteric thoughts constitutes what experiences I will be using. Often, spirituality, science, and math overlap, and both are necessary for a collected, holistic thought. Thank you.
