It's funny I never even considered a career in nursing until last year. I thought I already had my life planned out, as I already received a Bachelor's degree in Health Service Management. Then my nana (my grandma who raised me) was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and stage 2 bone cancer. A woman who worked as an LPN her whole life and had a perfect picture of health is now confined to a bed. Even though it is hard for me to see her like this, I spent most of my time last year taking care of her. With my faith I believe everything happens for a reason, I believe in callings, and I believe in testimonies. Randomly two months ago I seen an ad for an online BSN program through Herzing University. I applied and got started working on what I needed for the program. In less than 2 weeks of study time I was able to pass my TEAS exam. I haven't been in a traditional school setting since I was 16. I am a GED graduate. I never thought in a million years I would be hear fighting to become an RN. My nana was so proud when I got accepted into school, she said "Megan this gives me hope to hold on a couple more years. I can't wait to see you graduate". I believe nursing is my calling. Pediatric nursing would be a great career for me. I love kids, I am a mother to a 4 year old after being told I would never conceive. Kids are the best thing in this sad world. Being around kids brightens my day. It's a feeling that's hard to understand unless you see how I am around kids.
