Brad Hinshaw Memorial Scholarship
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to apply for the "Brad Hinshaw Memorial" scholarship! I'd like to begin by describing my background, which for an 18 year old is rather dynamic. My father served in the Navy for 27 years. We had the opportunity to move around the country, which gave me a unique perspective on life and friendships. Moreover, my mother passed away from breast cancer (April 2018) when she was 39 years old (she fought for 2 years) and I was 12 years old. Without question, this event serves as the most challenging time of my life. Her passing left my Dad, me and my sister with a big hole in our hearts... We've of course had our challenges, but are doing pretty good. My sister is in college at Ole Miss, my dad finished his Navy career, and I look forward to entering college Fall 2025.
Through all the moves, and with the passing of my mother... I do my best to hold my head up high! I surround myself with family, friends, and my faith. I believe that even through the hardest of times, God has a plan for all of us... and, it is wise minded to trust His plan. My Mom was awesome! She was a Special Education Teacher, but with all the moving with the Navy... she stayed at home and gave us the best childhood. When we moved to Tennessee (still with the Navy), she decided to Home School my sister and I. She was tough with academics, and grounded us in our faith. Watching how courageous she was during her treatment and last days was indeed sad, but also amazing. Amazing to see God's work and her unwavering faith and trust in Him.
That said, I do my best to stay busy. To be with friends. And to have a positive impact on others, and the organizations I'm involved with! I'm a member of the National Honor Society, an Ambassador for the school, Soccer Team manager/player, serve in multiple clubs, and currently I'm dual-enrolled (College Writing) as a high school senior with University of Memphis. I hold a 3.8 GPA and have goals to become a Graphic Designer!
Once again, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to describe how my mother's passing due to breast cancer (spread to brain) lead me to be inspired to carry on in a positive way!
