Bio

My goal in life is to become as great as I can be, and to reach my full potential in every single thing that I do. Right now, I'm a student at Atlantic Technical College in Florida, pursuing their Court Reporting program. I've been a digital court reporter since April of 2021, and am now wanting to take my career a step further by becoming a stenographer. I fell in love with the field the longer I worked in it. I'm going to school full-time, as well as working full-time every single day. I hold an Associate's Degree in Communications from Miami-Dade College in Florida that I graduated with in 2017. I have many hobbies as well: Reading, writing, puzzles, journaling, self care, mental health, coloring, learning about different topics and subjects, learning languages (or trying to). I have a constant thirst for knowledge.

My name is Megan Kendrick, and I am a 27-year-old student at Atlantic Technical College in Broward County, Florida. I am pursuing their Court Reporting program with the hope of becoming a certified stenographer. I started in the court reporting/legal field in the year 2021 as a digital court reporter and completely fell in love with it. After spending the past few years in the field, I decided I wanted to further my career and chose to enroll in a court reporting program. There's a huge shortage of stenographers in the country, which is causing many problems in the legal field. Stenographers are the "golden standard" of the court reporting field, as they write verbatim what is said by everybody in a legal proceeding, whether in a courtroom, an office, or on Zoom. To become a stenographer, you have to go through intense schooling to learn the machine, which is called a Stenotype, the language of stenography, and to learn the theory and foundation. After that, you work towards building a speed of at least 225wpm (words per minute). The National Court Reporters Association has a certification that is sought after by all reporting students, and the achieve it, you have to write at a minimum of 225wpm with a 95% accuracy or higher on the testing. It's the RPR certification, which stands for Registered Professional Reporter. Court reporting school has a 90% dropout rate because of how intense it is. The field itself is very niche, and only certain personalities tend to flourish in it. I believe with my passion and drive, I will be the 1 out of every 10 students who graduate. I'm not a person who gives up. I continue to work until either there is a solution or it doesn't work out, but I do not give up. I grew up in a household with two parents, both have Master's Degrees and was taught the lesson of effort and how important it is to put 100% into everything you do. I take pride in everything I do.
