I am interested in majoring in nursing and hope to someday be working in a hospital helping people in need. I am someone who often puts others' needs before my own which has been a key reason as to why I want to try and help others the best that I can.
I have been involved in the healthcare program offered by my high school and have admired getting to acquire the knowledge and skills I will use in the future. In the first three years of classes, we focused on the ethics of healthcare, the language involved in the medical field, and how to complete paperwork. Senior year, I am able to take practicum during which I will shadow nurses at the local Rapid Med along with taking time to study for the nursing CNA that I will take at the end of the year. This coursework has also taught me hands-on skills such as getting to take vitals, suture synthetic skin, and insert IVs.
I have also grown up with an older sister who has pursued the same passion and have seen the idea of this major come to life. Hearing about the many different circumstances she gets to experience on an everyday basis in the ICU excites me like no other. She has inspired me to pursue my own path in the medical field.
Other inspirational nurses were my day and night time nurses when I was staying at the hospital following my Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. Both nurses were diabetics and showed me that they were able to overcome the challenge of diabetes and live a full life. I want to be able to pay it forward by becoming a nurse and serving as an example and a point of inspiration for my patients.

One of my future goals is to major in nursing, where I hope to someday work in a hospital helping people in need. In addition, my aunt was a neonatal nurse for several years. The stories she shared of caring for young babies inspired me to follow in her footsteps.

I have seen firsthand how rewarding a career in the medical field can be both for patients and myself. I feel I have the skills and the heart to follow not only a career choice but what I believe is a calling. I will not only be able to lean into real life experiences in the hospital setting, I will also be able to follow my passion of helping others when they need it most.
