Bio

My name is Mchunde Mteulwa , I am a senior at Dater high school Class of 2022. I am 17 years old. I was born in May/31/2004 in a refugee camp of nyarugusu in the country of Tanzania. Since I was young I always dream to become a doctor because my father is always sick I want to find the solution of his sickness. I want to know what is the cause. My father loved education so much from when he was younger but because of war and violence in Congo makes his education worthless until he gets married at age of 29. He didn’t get to reach his goal because of war and violence in Congo. Still He always encourages me “My son go to school, get education, make me your father proud, not regret”. I keep the saying of my father until now. This opportunity will help me get a good education and also fulfil my goal. I really like this country. The United State of America God bless this nation. It has taken me from being called a refugee to being called a citizen. My dream is to become a Fetal echo sonographer. I love this from the bottom of my heart. I have a huge thirsty within my heart to be called sonographer Mchunde Mteulwa one day. I believe I was born to make the earth a better place to live, not to destroy it, because I won't live forever.

My is Mchunde Mteulwa I am a senior at Dater high school class of 2022. My name is Mchunde Mteulwa I am 17 years old. I live in Cincinnati Oh. I go to Gilbert A. Dater High School. I am from Democratic Republic of the Congo. But who is Mchunde Mteulwa? On May 31, 2004 Bora Kapela gave birth to a baby boy named Mchunde Mteulwa in Nyarugusu camp of refugees in Tanzania. How did my parents become refugees in the camp of Nyarugusu? Everything starts back to 1995 when president Mobutu was in power as an eternal king of Zaire. There was a rebel group that was led by Laurent Kabila due to take over the government of Mobutu Seseseko Nkuku ngbendu wa zabanga. For it was very hard to take over the government of president Mobutu it required the rebel group to do a revolution which killed more than 9 millions of Congolese people in the country. Because of this civil war, the state of Congo was very messy. Millions Of people fled into the foreign countries such as Tanzania, Mozambique, Kenya, Angola, Nabia, etc. At this time my father and mother were not yet married. My mother and her family suffered a lot during the war and have no place to rest or food to eat. My father at that time was incharge of helping people get safely into the boat to go through Tanganyika lake to tanzania. Not only was my family's life hard, but the lives of all Congolese people were hard, as well. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. and the Government of Tanzania decided to form a camp for refugees from Congo called Nyarugusu camp in 1996. Even though the UNHCR served people food, the lives of people were still terrible. In a camp hospital is free to get treatment. My parents were sick for 1 year. There was a time when my brother and I started to make bricks and then sell them just to get some little money to make sure life is going. For the will of God in 2016 they announced that the US will take some families from Nyarugusu Camp. My family was one of these families. I said in my heart that “Now my ways to become a very professional doctor get the light”. We came to the US on april/12/ 2016. I was 11 years old. Just as we arrived here in the US two weeks later my father got into a hospital called The University of Cincinnati Hospital. I was kind of disappointed, but my father kept encouraging us to just follow our dreams. The first school I attended in the US was Roberts Academy. I attended Roberts Academy until April 30th, 2016. I attended there from April 30,2016 to 2018,Now I am a senior at Dater High School preparing to graduate in 2022. “ I see light in the future and by hope and encouragement I will reach the light of success and help everyone. Outside of school I feel so bad because I feel like my grades will drop very bad. among things that I fear to be destroyed is my grades because I feel like without it I will not achieve my dreams. in my community I am a helper and adviser. I spend 10 dollar every month to help homeless to get somethings to eat. Thank you very much for reading my story and my ideas be blessed.

One day I and mother were on the way, the grass was very wet . Our farm was very far, about 2 hours walking from home. My mother knew that because it was a long walk she kept enough food, so we could eat on the way. I remember we stopped one time to get some rest. Then we kept on walking until we reached the farm. The first thing we did was chop down trees to build a small farm house. After making a house, my mother was very tired of long walks and chopping down trees to make a house. She said, “Mwetaminwa, tell you younger brother to go bring me water from the Migunga River.” Brother told me the same, “Mchunde, Mother said go get water in the river.” I took a blade. I went to the river to take some water, but when I got there, I saw a huge snake in the river. I was shocked. Immediately, I screamed aloud, “help! Help a snake!” Unfortunately, nobody was there. I had to chase one snake to kill me or I would kill the snake. I stood and grabbed my machete with my right hand I yelled loudly in EBEMBE saying, “you snake, today is your last day to be alive, leave before I kill you!” while shaking the machete to the right and to the left. I began to move toward snakes talking loudly because I knew this was the only way to escape fear. Immediately, the snake feared me and left. I grabbed water, I took back my walk to the farm and I gave my mother water she drinks.

Among the things that I want to do when I grow up, being a doctor is one of my dreams. I always see my dad and my mom sick and suffering. I feel so bad. I imagine my parents would not suffer like this if I was a doctor. I also go to the Hospital sometimes. I see sick people there. people who're unable to walk or to breath or to talk. I feel like I can do something to help them. But what can I do? I have been reading the story and books by Edward Jenner. He was a physician and scientist who created the first vaccines for people. His vaccine saved millions of people's lives. Edward Jenner inspired me to do many things. I want to help and save millions of Africans. We do not have good healthcare especially in the villages and camps where people are getting sick and not living long because of weak healthcare. I know what I am talking about because I was born in a small village of Nyarugusu. These people are farmers and fishers. Nobody thinks about becoming a doctor one day. This makes people have no body protection. Africa is not the only continent that is going through this type of situation, it's also happening in the Middle East and Asia. To get an opportunity to attend Miami University is a good opportunity because it would give me the chance to help so many people. I will do my best to make Earth a better place for all creatures. My father told me once “ My son, you are nothing on earth if you can let people die in front of your eyes and you can do something to help them. Help everyone my Son, love everyone and before thinking about your own troubles, first think about other people's troubles so that you will have a very nice and good life in the world. Life is short so do something that will leave your name in people’s remembrance”. I always remember these words of my father. It is good to think about other people's troubles first before thinking about your own. I want earth to be the best place for all human races to live. For that I have to go to college. Study medicine and health to know how the human body’s function. Yesterday I was watching a boy in Nigeria who was abandoned because of his sickness. He had liver problems. His family ran away from him. He didn’t know where to look for help. He was just in bed until he died. I was about.

For this I didn't get my mom’s breast feed since I was just 1 weeks to when I started to walk. I went to school at age 4 in 2008. I did not fail any class during all my school years. I was so proud when I got the first student with the highest grade point in the whole school. In 2014 both of my parents started to get sick. It was a very terrible time in my life that I will never forget . My brother and I decided to quit school to take care of our parents.
