A song that impacted me growing up was HEAVEN by Troye Sivan. Troye is an openly queer artist, and as a closeted queer girl, listening to his music was a breath of fresh air in an environment where I constantly felt trapped because I couldn't be myself. HEAVEN is a song about constantly wanting to hide who you are, primarily because of what religion has to say about being gay and not being content about it. Troye mentions that if heaven is a place where he can't love who he wants, then maybe heaven is not as extraordinary as people say it is. Growing up Christian, I was reminded of the promise of heaven almost every day, and I hated myself for feeling attracted to girls. However, when I heard Troye sing: "So if I'm losing a piece of me, maybe I don't want heaven," I realized that if heaven was this fantastic place where I would be happy forever, then I shouldn't have to pretend to be someone else to be accepted. Listening to HEAVEN changed how I viewed myself, and it played a big part in my journey of self-acceptance and self-love. Even if I don't listen to this song as often as I did back in 2015, I still give it credit for teaching me to be who I am; without hiding.

My main goal is to have a successful career in the cybersecurity field so that I can create a program that gives resources to Hispanic women in STEM fields. I want to be able to fund scholarships for Latina women in STEM to close the gap between white men and POC women that exists in this field.
