James B. McKillip Scholarship for Physical Therapy
To each person, provider or patient, physical therapy has its own unique importance. For me, I was a patient for quite some time when I was younger. I did not always enjoy my time at physical therapy, but I knew that it was a necessary pain I had to go through to get health once again. I found a much greater importance once I started working at a physical therapy clinic that grew my passion and drive to become a physical therapist myself. Working at a large outpatient orthopedic clinic I was able to see people of all ages and severities of injury. I grew an understanding of how much therapists must care about their patients and how much patients rely on their therapist. This experience helped me understand the ins and outs of the insurance companies and how this effects the way therapists treat and the amount a patient can be seen is all dependent on how the insurance sees the importance of the reason they are there. To me this is wrong. That is why I see a large growth in private cash-based physical therapy clinics. And that is where my passion now lies. In the growth of private physical therapy. I plan to contribute to this growth in many ways. First, I plan to earn my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Midwestern University starting this June. There I will learn as much as possible to make me a better therapist but also to gain as much knowledge as I can about the body and how it works. I plan to use this degree to open my own business of therapy and sports performance. It will act as a physical therapy office and also a gym for anyone to join. I will hire strength and conditioning coaches while also athletic trainers to work with athletes and anyone looking for help. This business will promote healthy living and recovery while also acting as a performance center for athletes to improve on their craft. This building will hopefully have full athletic training room where athletes and members can recover from small injuries such as sore muscles, and aches and pains. Full locker rooms with lockers, saunas, cold tubs, and hot tubs. I know this will take a lot of work, and most definitely a lot of money, but when it is up and running it will change the lifestyle of a community which will affect generations of families.
Future of S&C: Strength Coach Job Network Scholarship
In the next five to ten years, I see the field of strength and conditioning growing immensely. Due to the world we are currently living in, people are realizing their own detrimental unhealthy habits. The world is seeing an increase of death caused by heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and so many more diseases directly affected by how they treat their body. With this realization happening in so many people across the world, I see a large number turning to the people who have been taught how to stay healthy and get in shape. This is where I see the most influx of strength and conditioning. Every day, normal job people will need to knowledge of those strength and conditioning coaches to help them exercise. This will cause an increase in privately owned gyms, coaches needed in YMCAs, and more coaches in schools teaching kids how to exercise and live a healthy lifestyle. The strength and conditioning jobs will be more needed and in turn more valuable to employers. They will still be needed in high school and college sports, but more people will turn to the cash-based pay style and seek high profiled, highly educated professional coaches to help them exercise. I plan to contribute to this growth in many ways. First, I plan to earn my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Midwestern University starting this June.
