My name is Maxwell Derrick Baker but I go by Max. I am 18 years old and a senior at McGehee High School. I live at home with my parents. I have a sister that lives a town away and is an RN at the hospital in Monticello. My dad has a TBI (almost 8 years ago). He is on disability so I really try to help my mom out as much as possible. He is doing ok, but at this time I plan to live at home for the next couple of years to continue to help with him. He is still my dad and he is trying to get better, but it is a struggle. However, we are all blessed to have him in our life. My mom teaches preschool and takes care of all of us. I played golf in the fall and I am the starting catcher for our high school baseball team. I am a four year scholar athlete and I am very proud of that. I am in the Beta Club and National Honor Society. I am also a member of FFA and last year I was the sentinel for our school chapter. I enjoy hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. I love to attend church with my extended family. I volunteer at the concession stand at the city league park. I am not exactly sure what all I am doing after I graduate. I have managed to make mostly A's throughout my high school career. My GPA is 3.8. As far as my future plans with education, I am not quite sure. I will start full time at the job I have been doing the last three summers. It is in irrigation (family owned). I enjoy the job and all that goes with it. Being outside and working with my hands is what I want to do. This job will have opportunities to grow. I will have to get some additional training to move up in that position. Helping run that company would be a goal for my future. Also, I have been attending classes at UAM technology - McGehee the last two years through my high school for automotive. I have talked to my automotive professor to discuss what else I will need to do to complete that degree. I will have to attend classes there to complete that degree. I am excited about my future and where it is going. Any further education I will get will be some sort of trade. Receiving this scholarship would be helpful when I have to go get more certifications in any trade I need. I appreciate you considering my application, Max Baker.
