    Michael Hinrich Memorial Scholarship
My car is my creative freedom and my self-expression. While others show their creativity with paintings hung up in their living room or crochet beanies atop family members’ heads, I can drive my creativity to school, take it across the country, or modify its appearance whenever I please. Since purchasing my 1992 classic red Mazda Miata in the summer of my Junior year, I have devoted countless time and effort to repairing and maintaining my beloved car. Only mending smaller issues as they arose, the true test of my mechanical ability came when my clutch burned out. With excitement outweighing my fear, I enthusiastically began my work, absorbing new information as we took each component apart. After nearly a week of tinkering with finicky exhaust manifold bolts and a crooked transmission, I finally lowered my car off of its jack stands and felt an intense sense of accomplishment as my new clutch gripped first gear. Motivated by this feat and excited for more to come, I cannot see myself anywhere else but involved with automotive mechanisms in my future. My passion for repairing my car is the same passion I envision myself putting into developing performance parts for electric cars or producing an innovation that will change the automotive landscape forever. I do not yet know exactly what I will do with my zeal, but I know that when I find my niche in college, dreams thought up in the back of class will turn into an electric reality.
    Anthony McPherson Memorial Automotive Scholarship
As a high school senior with a passion for cars and aspirations to become an entrepreneur in the automotive industry, I am deeply committed to the cause that this scholarship represents. The effects of driving under the influence are a matter of immense concern, impacting countless lives every year. I am honored to apply for this scholarship in memory of Anthony McPherson, shedding light on the devastating consequences of DUI. I can identify with Anthony's love for cars in our shared admiration of car shows and our mutual dream of entrepreneurship in the automotive field. Whether I am driving my 1992 Mazda Miata through the hills or eating a bagel at cars and coffee, cars are my passion. Anthony McPherson's untimely passing serves as a stark reminder of the harrowing effects of DUI. DUI incidents not only rob individuals of their lives but also shatter families, leaving a trail of emotional devastation in their wake. Furthermore, DUI-related accidents strain the healthcare system, law enforcement agencies, and the judicial system. These incidents also result in economic losses due to property damage and legal proceedings. Preventing DUI is not just a matter of personal responsibility; it is a collective duty to ensure the safety of our society. Anthony and I share a deep passion for cars. It is through this shared enthusiasm that I can truly empathize with the loss his family and friends endured. From a young age, my love for automobiles has driven me to immerse myself in the automotive world. I have dedicated countless hours to researching, watching, and working on cars, not only for personal enjoyment but also as a way to foster a greater sense of community. Like Anthony, I have attended car shows, where I have had the privilege of meeting fellow car enthusiasts and expanding my knowledge of automotive culture and design. The bond formed with like-minded individuals at these events is a testament to the power of the automotive community, which shares the responsibility of promoting safe and responsible driving. The culture of automotive enthusiasts involves promoting safe driving practices, respecting traffic laws, and encouraging responsible behavior. What better way to spread this message than at the car shows Anthony and I fell in love with. To prevent possible DUIs in the future, we need to start small. Sharing Anthony’s story at car shows, we can hope to light a spark that one day may burst into a raging fire that will stop DUI for good. By connecting with his community, Anthony’s message will not go unheard. Moreover, Anthony and I both aspire to be entrepreneurs in the automotive field. Anthony's death has prevented him from realizing his dreams, but with his story in the back of my mind, I am now more than ever dedicated to pursuing a career in the automotive industry. As an aspiring entrepreneur, I see a unique opportunity to make a difference; whatever path I find myself down in college, I will keep Anthony’s story alive, bringing safer roads wherever I may drive.
