Music has been one of the most influential forces in my high school experience, shaping my identity, discipline, and sense of belonging. From my first rehearsals to my final performances, music provided structure and purpose during some of the most formative years of my life. Through participation in multiple ensembles, I learned not only how to be a stronger musician, but also how to work with others, lead responsibly, and persevere through challenges.
Symphonic Band and Concert Band served as the foundation of my musical growth. These ensembles strengthened my technical skills, musicianship, and ability to perform as part of a large, unified group. I learned the importance of preparation, attention to detail, and listening beyond my own part. Performing challenging repertoire taught me patience and showed me that progress comes from consistent effort over time.
Jazz Band introduced me to a new level of creativity and musical freedom. Through jazz, I learned how to improvise, listen more actively, and communicate musically in real time. This ensemble helped me grow more confident as a performer and encouraged me to take risks, both musically and personally. Jazz Band taught me that music is not only about precision, but also expression and individuality.
Percussion Ensemble expanded my understanding of rhythm, teamwork, and versatility. Working closely with other percussionists required trust, adaptability, and clear communication. The ensemble emphasized responsibility, as every part was essential to the success of the group. This experience strengthened my leadership skills and deepened my respect for collaboration.
Marching Band, Winter Winds, and Winter Drumline had a profound impact on my character and work ethic. These ensembles demanded discipline, endurance, and commitment at a high level. Long rehearsals, physical challenges, and high performance expectations taught me resilience and accountability. Marching Band especially fostered a strong sense of community and pride, showing me what can be achieved through collective effort.
High school music also gave me stability during stressful times, providing a positive outlet when academics and personal responsibilities felt overwhelming. Rehearsals became a place where focus replaced anxiety, and performances offered moments of pride and accomplishment. The support of directors and peers helped me build confidence and motivation, reinforcing my desire to continue pursuing music beyond high school and into a lifelong, service-oriented career. These lessons guide my goals today forward. Through every ensemble, music shaped my discipline, friendships, leadership skills, confidence, and vision for my future through music.

Music has been a central part of my life for many years and Music has been a central part of my life for many years and has shaped who I am today. From my earliest experiences in band, I discovered music gave me purpose, structure, and a sense of belonging. Through countless rehearsals, performances, and personal practice, I learned perseverance, teamwork, discipline, and responsibility. Music challenged me academically, emotionally, and creatively, pushing me to improve even when progress felt slow. Over time, these experiences made it clear music was not simply an activity, but the career path I wanted to pursue.
My future goal is to earn a degree in Music Teaching and Learning, also known as Music Education, at Arizona State University. I recently auditioned to become a music major and am awaiting my acceptance decision. This program aligns with my professional goals by developing strong musicianship, leadership skills, and effective teaching strategies. I plan to use this degree as a pathway into the United States Navy Band, where I hope to serve my country while performing at a high professional level.
Within the Navy Band, I aim to grow as a performer and eventually pursue leadership or director roles. I am drawn to the responsibility of guiding ensembles, mentoring fellow musicians, and maintaining musical excellence. After approximately twenty years of service, I plan to retire from the Navy and transition into a second career as a band director. By that time, I hope to share the musical knowledge, discipline, and leadership experience I have gained with future students.
I hope to impact the world through music by using it as a tool for connection, education, and inspiration. Music has the ability to reach people across cultures and backgrounds, fostering understanding and unity. Whether performing, teaching, or leading ensembles, my goal is to help others experience confidence, discipline, and personal growth through music.
Currently, I give back to my community through active participation in school music programs. I support my peers during rehearsals, help maintain a positive ensemble environment, and lead by example through preparation and commitment. These experiences reinforce my desire to continue serving others through music, education, leadership, and lifelong dedication. Additionally, I have volunteered time assisting younger students, organizing equipment, and supporting performances whenever opportunities arise. Serving as a dependable member of ensembles has taught me accountability and empathy. These contributions, though small, strengthen musical communities and demonstrate my commitment to service, collaboration, and growth beyond personal achievement through education, leadership, and consistent dedication to shared artistic goals.

At this point in my life, my primary intention in pursuing a music degree is to build a career that reflects how deeply music has shaped who I am. Music has been a constant presence throughout my life, influencing my discipline, confidence, and sense of purpose. Through years of playing, practicing, and performing, I have come to realize that music is not simply an interest or hobby for me—it is what I want to dedicate my life to professionally.
My goal is to use my musical education as a pathway into the United States Navy Band. Military service appeals to me because it combines structure, leadership, and artistic excellence. By joining a Navy Band, I hope to serve my country while continuing to grow as a musician at the highest level. Within the Navy Band, I aim to contribute as a performer and eventually pursue leadership roles, such as becoming a director. I am drawn to the responsibility of leading ensembles, mentoring fellow musicians, and maintaining a professional standard of musical excellence.
After approximately twenty years of service, I plan to retire from the Navy and transition into a second career as a band director. Throughout my musical journey, I have experienced firsthand how powerful a great music teacher or director can be. Music has taught me perseverance, teamwork, time management, and self-expression, and I want to pass those lessons on to future students. As a band director, my goal is to fill students’ minds with the musical knowledge, discipline, and passion I have gathered throughout my career, helping them grow both as musicians and as individuals.
To prepare for this path, I plan to attend Arizona State University and major in Music Teaching and Learning (MTL), also known as Music Education. ASU’s program offers the pedagogical training, musicianship development, and leadership skills necessary for both military and educational careers in music. I recently auditioned to become a music major at ASU and am currently awaiting my acceptance decision.
Through every challenge and success, music has consistently guided my choices, goals, identity, and future. Music has given me direction, purpose, and a sense of belonging, and it has helped me discover what I want to do with my life. My long-term goal is to devote myself fully to music—first through service and leadership in the Navy Band, and later by inspiring and educating the next generation as a band director.
