My name's Matthew Hedrich, and I'm from Presque Isle, Maine. I've always loved math and have done quite well at it in school. In my eighth grade year, I job shadowed two actuaries at a local insurance company, and I fell in love with the job and being around people with intellect of that caliber. During high school, I worked at a local potato farm where I would put in 12 hour days out in the sun doing physical labor. This work showed me what real work was and its true value. Since I was 5, I have taken lessons in Karate. It has taught me a number of valuable things such as discipline, self-control, dedication, and leadership. When I was 12, I achieved my black belt. Since then, I have helped teach students and have volunteered over 1000 hours teaching, and achieved my second degree black belt. I'm going to school at the University of Maine at Farmington where I'm putting my skills to use by majoring in Actuarial Science, Business, and Math with minors in CS and Data Analytics. I also am apart of organizations such as Men's Rugby and Jiu-jitsu. I volunteer at Sugarloaf mountain with the Horizons ski program where I help disabled people of all ages learn to ski. I also work as a lifeguard on campus to help pay for school. One day, I hope that my hard work pays off and that I have a successful career as a fully qualified Actuary, and that I am stable in my life. I would like to have a family and be able to continue to give back to my community, give back to those around me, and continue to volunteer. Thank you for taking the time to read about me!
