Amazon founder Jeff Bezos once said "One of the huge mistakes people make is that they try to force an interest on themselves. You don't choose your passions; your passions choose you." When I think of Jake and entrepreneurship this quote comes to mind. Jake had many passions and was very serious about them. Jake inspired me to find my own passions and find out what I really love. In early 2021 I started getting into fashion and trying to find my own style. I discovered that Goodwill has tons of great vintage clothes for one thirtieth of the resale value. I found myself going to various Goodwills daily to look for clothes I knew people would buy. I started learning about the different tags and what that meant in relation to the age and value of the clothes. One day my friend Aaron took me to the Mellwood Arts Center. We visited a vintage clothing store within the Arts Center. This inspired me to go and do the same thing. I ended up taking over a previous store's location. I took all of my current clothes and put them into the store. I then promoted it through Instagram and Snapchat. The first opening day tons of friends and random customers came out and purchased clothing. I have kept the store going for almost a year now and it has been pretty successful. The first day alone we made over $1500. We continue to go out and get inventory, and people still come in regularly to purchase clothes and hangout. The store is very important to me. It has taught me many lessons about entrepreneurship and life. I've learned about how you need to work hard to have something be successful. I've learned how if you truly love what you do it doesn't feel like work. It has taught me about friendships. It has made me closer with my friends who help run the store. I have learned about the power of social media and networking. It taught me how to communicate with stubborn people and to resolve issues. It has also taught me that sometimes things don't always go your way but you have to move on. In May the store was robbed of a couple thousand dollars worth of items. Nothing was recovered but the store moved on and we worked hard to get new inventory. Overall the store has taught me a lot about life. I feel like Jake would love what I am doing since it is so similar to what he did. The store has helped me find a passion, and it has helped me grow as an entrepreneur and as a person.
