First off, volleyball is a huge part of my life. I’ve played Club volleyball for two years and High School Varsity Volleyball, where I was part of the first boys' volleyball team at my school. Last year, we made it to the section 1 finals! I play as the Libero, the defensive specialist, and I love every minute of it.
When I’m not on the volleyball court, you can find me painting canvases in the summer. It’s super relaxing and a great way to express myself. If I have any spare time, I like to make Diamond art. It’s fun and a great way to unwind.
One of my quirky hobbies is collecting slimes. I’ve got over 40 different slimes in my room. They’re not just fun to play with, but they help me de-stress, especially when I’m doing my homework.
I’m also a big fan of reality TV competition shows, especially Big Brother. I can spend hours watching and analyzing the players’ gameplay. My dream is to be on one of these shows someday and use all the notes I’ve taken over the years to win!
Moving in the middle of 5th grade was tough because I lost all my old friends and had to start fresh in middle school. But it taught me how to adapt and make new friends.
One of my biggest life goals is to become an orthodontist. My mom had really bad teeth problems as a kid, and now she has to go through multiple procedures because the healthcare in her home country wasn’t great. Seeing her struggle and go through so much pain inspired me to want to help others. I want to make sure people get the dental care they need, especially those who might not have access to good healthcare.

My name is Matthew Garcia, and I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for creating change. As a first-generation college student from an immigrant family, I have seen firsthand how a lack of access to proper healthcare, especially dental care, can impact a person’s confidence and overall well-being. That is why I plan to use my education in biochemistry to pursue a career in orthodontics, where I can make a meaningful impact by improving people’s lives and giving back to my community.
Growing up, I watched my mother struggle with severe dental issues due to the lack of proper healthcare in her home country. She endured pain and discomfort, and her inability to receive early treatment led to more severe issues later in life. Seeing her struggle made me realize how something as simple as access to dental care could completely change a person’s self-esteem, comfort, and health. My mother’s experience inspired me to become an orthodontist, not only to provide people with healthier smiles but also to ensure that low-income families and underserved communities have access to the care they need.
One of my biggest goals is to open a dental clinic that offers free or low-cost orthodontic care for families who cannot afford it. Many people avoid seeing a dentist or orthodontist because of the high costs, and I want to change that. I plan to partner with local schools and community organizations to provide free dental screenings, consultations, and educational workshops. Teaching young children the importance of oral hygiene and giving them access to preventive care can save them from serious health problems in the future.
Beyond providing care, I also want to mentor and inspire the next generation of students, particularly first-generation, Hispanic, and low-income students who may not have the guidance or resources to pursue careers in STEM and healthcare. Many students like me have big dreams but lack role models in their communities who can show them that success is possible. I plan to create mentorship programs and scholarships that support aspiring healthcare professionals, helping them navigate college and career paths. Representation in healthcare matters, and I want to be an example that others can follow.
Receiving a college education will not only allow me to achieve my personal and professional goals, but it will also equip me with the knowledge and resources to make a lasting impact on my community. My mission is to help others by improving their health, building their confidence, and ensuring that everyone, no matter their background, has access to the care and support they deserve. Through my future work in orthodontics, I hope to create positive change that will last for generations.

My name is Matthew Garcia, and I am a dedicated student, athlete, and volunteer who believes in the power of perseverance, kindness, and giving back. As a first-generation college student from an immigrant family, I have learned the value of hard work and resilience from a young age. Watching my parents sacrifice to create a better future for my siblings and me has fueled my determination to succeed academically and serve my community.
I have been deeply involved in athletics, playing competitive volleyball for both my high school and club teams. Sports have taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance—qualities that I carry into every area of my life. Balancing my academic responsibilities while excelling in sports has strengthened my ability to manage time effectively, stay committed to my goals, and push through challenges. These experiences have shaped me into a leader, both on and off the court, and have reinforced my belief in the importance of hard work and dedication.
Beyond academics and athletics, I am passionate about giving back to my community. I have dedicated my time to volunteering as a coach for young athletes and serving in my church’s youth ministry. Through these experiences, I have mentored and supported younger students, encouraging them to pursue their goals with confidence. Volunteering has shown me the impact that kindness and guidance can have on others, and I strive to continue making a difference in the lives of those around me.
Academically, I plan to major in biochemistry and pursue a career in orthodontics. My inspiration stems from seeing my mother struggle with access to dental care as a child in her home country. Her experience has made me passionate about providing affordable dental care to underserved communities. Through my future career, I hope to make a lasting impact by improving people’s confidence and well-being through their smiles.
Receiving this scholarship would be an incredible honor and would help alleviate the financial burden of pursuing higher education. It would allow me to focus on my studies, continue my community service efforts, and strive toward my dream of making a meaningful impact in the healthcare field. Kalia D. Davis’s legacy of excellence, service, and kindness is truly inspiring, and I hope to embody those values in my own journey. Through my hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving others, I hope to carry on her spirit and make a difference in the world.
Dr. Salman Zafar Memorial Scholarship
I am a first-generation student from an immigrant family, and my journey has been shaped by perseverance, resilience, and a deep desire to give back. Growing up, I watched my parents work tirelessly to provide for our family, often sacrificing their own needs to ensure my siblings and I had opportunities they never had. Their hard work and dedication instilled in me the importance of education and the responsibility to use my success to help others.
My passion lies in dentistry, specifically orthodontics, a field I was drawn to after witnessing my mother’s struggles with dental care. She grew up in a country where access to proper dental treatment was limited, and as a result, she now faces numerous painful and expensive procedures. Seeing how much dental health can impact a person’s confidence and overall well-being made me realize that I want to be part of the solution. My goal is to become an orthodontist and provide affordable, high-quality dental care to underserved communities.
Beyond just treating patients, I hope to make a lasting impact by educating people on the importance of oral health and advocating for improved access to dental care. Many low-income families avoid seeking treatment due to financial concerns, leading to preventable issues that worsen over time. I plan to work with community outreach programs and nonprofit organizations to ensure that more families have access to proper dental care, regardless of their economic status.
In addition to my career goals, I want to serve as a mentor and role model for other first-generation students. Navigating the path to higher education is challenging, especially without guidance from family members who have been through the process. I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to apply for colleges, scholarships, and financial aid while juggling school and other responsibilities. I hope to use my experiences to guide and inspire students from similar backgrounds, helping them believe in their potential and pursue their dreams with confidence.
I also want to give back to my community by starting a dental outreach program that provides free or low-cost orthodontic care to families in need. Many children and teenagers suffer from dental issues that impact their self-esteem, and I want to ensure that no one has to hide their smile due to financial limitations. Through my future practice, I plan to offer free consultations, flexible payment options, and community workshops to promote better dental hygiene and awareness.
Dentistry is more than just a career for me—it is a way to change lives. A smile can boost someone’s confidence, improve their health, and even open new opportunities. My dream is to help people feel confident in themselves, just as I hope to gain confidence in my own journey. By combining my passion for healthcare with my desire to serve others, I know I can make a positive impact on the world.
Simon Strong Scholarship
Adversity has played a major role in shaping who I am today. As a first-generation student from an immigrant family, I have faced obstacles that have tested my perseverance, strength, and determination. One of the biggest challenges I have encountered is the financial and emotional pressure of being the first in my family to attend college. Unlike many of my peers, I didn’t have parents who could guide me through college applications, financial aid forms, or career decisions. Instead, I had to figure out everything on my own while balancing school, extracurricular activities, and family responsibilities.
One of the hardest moments was realizing the true cost of college. My family has always worked hard to provide for us, but higher education is expensive, and I didn’t want to add more financial strain to their lives. I felt guilty about the idea of taking on student loans and worried about how I would afford tuition, housing, and other expenses. However, instead of letting these concerns discourage me, I took action. I spent hours researching scholarships, sought guidance from mentors, and applied for every opportunity that could help ease the financial burden. I also worked hard in school to ensure I had the best chance of earning merit-based aid.
Beyond the financial struggles, I also had to overcome the self-doubt that came with navigating this journey alone. There were moments when I felt like I wasn’t good enough or that I didn’t belong in certain academic spaces. Without someone to turn to for advice, I had to push myself to stay focused and motivated. Over time, I realized that my hard work, perseverance, and willingness to seek opportunities set me apart. Instead of seeing my struggles as disadvantages, I learned to view them as strengths that have prepared me to handle future challenges.
This experience has also shaped my career aspirations. I want to become an orthodontist, not only to achieve personal success but to give back to others who have faced similar struggles. Growing up, I saw how financial limitations impacted my family’s ability to access quality dental care. My mother, for example, had to endure painful dental procedures because she didn’t have proper treatment as a child. Seeing her struggle inspired me to pursue a career in dentistry so that I can provide care to underserved communities and help those who may not have the financial means to afford it.
For anyone facing similar challenges, my advice is this: Do not be afraid to ask for help. There are teachers, mentors, and scholarship organizations that want to see you succeed. Seek out resources, believe in yourself, and remember that your struggles do not define you. Instead, they make you stronger. No matter how difficult the journey may seem, you are capable of overcoming anything—and one day, you’ll use your experiences to inspire others just as I hope to do.
Let Your Light Shine Scholarship
I plan to create a legacy by helping others, particularly in the field of dentistry. My long-term goal is to become an orthodontist and eventually open my own practice. Growing up in a low-income immigrant family, I’ve seen firsthand the struggles my community faces when it comes to accessing healthcare, especially dental care. Many families, including my own, didn’t have the resources to afford regular check-ups or treatments. This experience has shaped my determination to become a dentist and offer affordable care to those who need it most. By building a practice focused on serving underserved communities, I hope to create a lasting impact and give back to those who are often overlooked by the healthcare system.
The type of business I hope to create is an orthodontic practice that not only provides high-quality care but also makes services accessible to families who might otherwise struggle to afford them. I want my practice to be known for its commitment to affordability, compassion, and community involvement. I would ensure that my practice works with patients to provide financing options and create payment plans that ease the burden of medical expenses. Additionally, I plan to offer educational resources and workshops on oral hygiene, especially in communities that lack proper education and awareness about dental health.
My business would also focus on mentorship and giving back. I want to inspire the next generation of Hispanic students to pursue careers in healthcare and other STEM fields by providing opportunities for internships, shadowing, and support in their educational journey. By creating an environment of support and growth, I hope to cultivate not just patients but also future professionals who will continue the legacy of giving back to the community.
I shine my light by always striving to be a positive influence on those around me. Whether I’m volunteering as a coach, working with kids in my church, or simply helping my peers, I try to lead by example and share my experiences. I believe that by showing others the importance of hard work, compassion, and perseverance, I can inspire them to pursue their goals, no matter the obstacles they face. Service is a core value in my life, and I find joy in knowing that I can make a difference in someone else’s life, no matter how big or small.
Ultimately, my goal is to create a legacy of service, compassion, and opportunity—one that continues to inspire and empower others to pursue their dreams and give back to the community. I want to be known not just for the work I do as an orthodontist, but for the positive impact I have had on the lives of those I’ve helped and mentored along the way.
Aserina Hill Memorial Scholarship
I’m a high school senior with a strong passion for helping others, particularly within my Hispanic community. I’m currently focused on my studies, extracurricular activities, and planning for my future. I’ve always been motivated to pursue a career in dentistry, specifically orthodontics, because of my own experiences growing up in a low-income immigrant family where healthcare was often out of reach. My mom, in particular, had dental issues that weren’t addressed properly, and that’s what sparked my desire to become an orthodontist and help others in similar situations. My goal is to provide affordable and accessible dental care to underserved communities like mine, where many people struggle to get the care they need.
In high school, I’ve been involved in various extracurricular activities that have allowed me to develop leadership skills and make a positive impact on others. I’ve volunteered as a coach for younger children learning the basics of volleyball, which has taught me how to work with kids, motivate them, and guide them toward achieving their goals. I also volunteer at Harvest Time Church, where I work with kids in grades 2-6, helping them learn valuable life lessons and grow spiritually. These experiences have shown me the importance of giving back to the community and have inspired me to pursue a career that allows me to make a difference, not only in people’s health but also in their lives.
After high school, I plan to attend college to major in biochemistry, with the goal of ultimately attending dental school and becoming an orthodontist. I want to help people in underserved communities receive the dental care they deserve, and I hope to serve as a role model for other Hispanic students in my community, showing them that a career in healthcare is achievable, regardless of background or financial resources.
If I could start my own charity, it would focus on providing healthcare education and affordable dental care to low-income Hispanic families. The mission would be to educate the community on the importance of oral health and offer free or low-cost dental services to families who can’t afford them. Many families in underserved communities don’t have access to regular dental care, and my charity would aim to bridge that gap. Volunteers would help organize health education workshops, teaching families about proper oral hygiene and offering advice on how to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Additionally, volunteers could help with fundraising to support the charity’s initiatives and provide free dental screenings and consultations with professionals.
Through this charity, I would not only be helping people access essential healthcare but also empowering them with the knowledge to take better care of their health. I believe that by giving back to my community, I can make a positive, lasting impact and inspire others to pursue careers in healthcare as well.
Jesus Baez-Santos Memorial Scholarship
One of the most important people in my life is my mom. Growing up, she was my constant source of support, love, and inspiration. She came to the U.S. with big dreams for herself and her family, but as an immigrant, she faced many struggles. I witnessed how hard she worked, often juggling multiple jobs, all while still being the pillar of our family. Despite the challenges, she never let us feel the weight of them. She always encouraged me to keep going, to stay focused, and to never give up on my dreams, no matter the obstacles in our way.
One moment that stands out in my mind was when I was preparing for a big volleyball game in high school. I was feeling nervous and doubting my abilities. My mom, knowing how much this game meant to me, sat me down and told me about the struggles she faced growing up—how she had to work hard for everything she had and how much it mattered to her that I follow my dreams. She reminded me that I could overcome any challenge, just like she had. Her words of encouragement helped me push through my fear and perform at my best that day.
My mom holds a significant place in my life because she is the person who shaped my values, work ethic, and perseverance. She showed me what it means to fight for your goals and never settle for less than what you deserve. She’s my biggest motivator, and everything I do is in some way influenced by her strength and dedication. She has impacted me in ways that words can’t fully capture—her sacrifices, her wisdom, and her unwavering belief in me are the reasons I push myself to succeed.
Being a first-generation student has been both a challenge and a source of pride. My parents, especially my mom, did not have the same educational opportunities growing up, so I’ve had to navigate the complexities of applying to college and understanding financial aid on my own. It’s been a journey of learning, trial, and error, but my mom’s sacrifices have inspired me to make the most of this opportunity. I want to succeed not only for myself but for her and my entire family. Being the first in my family to attend college means I have to pave the way for others in my community who may not have access to the resources and guidance needed to pursue higher education.
It’s not always easy, but my mom’s determination has been a guiding light through the challenges of being a first-generation student. Her example of resilience fuels my passion to pursue my dreams and help others do the same. I want to use my education to give back to my community, just as my mom has always given so much of herself to ours.
Aurora Rocha Memorial Scholarship
I am a first-generation Hispanic high school senior, and I’m passionate about pursuing a career in dentistry, specifically orthodontics, within the STEM field. Growing up in a low-income immigrant family, I’ve always been aware of the challenges my community faces, especially when it comes to accessing quality healthcare. My mom’s struggles with dental issues due to a lack of proper care in her home country inspired me to pursue a career where I can give back to others who face similar obstacles. I want to make a difference by improving access to dental care, especially for underserved communities.
Throughout high school, I’ve volunteered in various capacities, including teaching kids in my church’s ministry, coaching younger volleyball players, and serving as a mentor to students in my community. Volunteering has allowed me to develop a strong sense of responsibility and compassion for others. I particularly enjoy volunteering with young people because I know the impact it can have on their lives. I’ve seen how guidance and support can make a huge difference in helping kids find confidence in themselves and in their futures. In my own community, I’ve witnessed many Hispanic families who face challenges navigating healthcare systems, and this has further motivated me to pursue a career in dentistry. I plan to not only serve my family but also extend that care to others in need, particularly within the Hispanic community.
In the future, I plan to give back to my community by offering affordable dental care and mentoring young Hispanic students who are interested in pursuing careers in healthcare. I believe that representation matters, and as a first-generation college student, I want to serve as a role model and show others that pursuing a career in STEM is not only possible but also achievable. I also plan to educate my family and community about the importance of oral health, since many people in underserved communities often don’t have access to the education or resources needed to maintain proper dental care.
Winning this scholarship would allow me to continue my education without the burden of financial stress, and enabling me to focus on my studies and develop the skills needed to make a lasting impact on my community. By pursuing a career in dentistry, I aim to improve lives, bring healthcare to those who need it most, and inspire the next generation of Hispanic students to reach for their dreams.
Scorenavigator Financial Literacy Scholarship
Growing up in a low-income immigrant family, I’ve always been aware of the importance of managing finances carefully. My parents have worked hard to provide for our family, often balancing multiple jobs to make ends meet. From an early age, I was taught the value of budgeting and saving, as well as how important it is to prioritize needs over wants. This financial awareness became even more important as I got older and began thinking about my future, especially regarding college tuition and how to pay for it.
One of the biggest challenges my family has faced is the high cost of higher education. I’ve seen firsthand how difficult it is to save for something as expensive as college when resources are limited. My parents have always encouraged me to work hard and pursue my education, but the reality is that without scholarships, grants, or financial assistance, many of my dreams would remain out of reach. I’ve had to learn about the financial aid process on my own, researching scholarships, loans, and ways to minimize the amount of debt I will take on in the future.
Through these experiences, I’ve also learned the importance of building credit and understanding the long-term impact of debt. My family has been careful to avoid taking on too much debt, but I know that in order to achieve my educational and career goals, I will likely need to take out loans. I plan to educate myself about student loans, interest rates, and repayment plans to make informed decisions that won’t burden me financially in the long run.
In the future, I also hope to pass on what I’ve learned about finances to others, especially in communities like mine where financial education is often lacking. I believe that understanding how to manage money—whether it’s budgeting for everyday expenses, saving for the future, or investing in education—can empower people to make better decisions and build a more secure future.
Ultimately, I plan to use the knowledge I gain about personal finances and financial education to better manage my own finances as I pursue my career in dentistry. I want to ensure that I can provide for my family, pay off any student loans, and eventually open my own orthodontic practice without being weighed down by financial stress. By learning how to manage my money effectively, I will be better equipped to focus on my career and use my success to give back to my community, especially by offering affordable dental care to those who need it most.
Hispanic Climb to Success Scholarship
WinnerI am a first-generation Hispanic student, and my educational goals are centered around becoming a dentist—specifically, an orthodontist. Growing up in a low-income immigrant family, I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges that come with limited access to quality healthcare, particularly dental care. My mom’s struggles with dental issues due to lack of proper care in her home country have motivated me to pursue a career in dentistry. I want to make a difference in people’s lives by providing affordable, high-quality dental care to underserved communities, particularly those who face financial barriers to receiving proper treatment.
I’ve always had a passion for helping others and an interest in healthcare, and becoming an orthodontist would allow me to combine both. I want to provide people with the confidence that comes from a healthy smile and the peace of mind that they’re receiving the care they deserve. In order to achieve this, I plan to attend college to major in biochemistry, which will provide me with the foundational knowledge needed for dental school. After dental school, I hope to specialize in orthodontics and open my own practice where I can serve low-income individuals and families.
The cost of college is a significant barrier for me, and it has made me realize how difficult it is for many students in similar situations to afford higher education without taking on large amounts of debt. My family has worked incredibly hard to make ends meet, but we still face financial challenges that make it difficult to save for college. This scholarship would provide the financial support I need to pursue my educational goals without the constant worry of overwhelming student loans. It would allow me to focus on my studies and work towards achieving my dream of becoming an orthodontist, a career that will allow me to give back to my community.
I believe I should win this scholarship because I am committed to using my education to help others, especially those who may not have access to quality healthcare. My passion for dentistry and my desire to make a difference in underserved communities motivate me every day. I am determined to work hard, overcome any obstacles that come my way, and eventually contribute to making dental care more accessible for people who need it most. Winning this scholarship would be a crucial step in helping me achieve these goals and create a better future for myself and others.

A personal experience that deeply influenced my decision to pursue dentistry, specifically orthodontics, comes from watching my mom struggle with dental issues throughout her life. Growing up, I saw how much pain and frustration she went through due to her dental problems. As a child in her home country, she couldn’t access the care she needed, and it led to long-term dental complications that continue to affect her to this day.
My mom’s story made me realize how important dental care is, not just for a person’s health, but for their overall well-being and self-esteem. I watched as her lack of proper care impacted her confidence and quality of life, and it became clear to me that I wanted to make a difference for people who faced similar challenges. This experience sparked my desire to pursue dentistry, especially orthodontics, where I could not only help improve people’s health but also give them back their confidence through a beautiful smile.
What drew me to orthodontics specifically is its ability to create long-term, life-changing results. I understand that a smile can have a significant impact on how someone feels about themselves, and I wanted to be part of that transformation. Beyond the physical aspect, orthodontics allows me to connect with people and help them overcome the barriers that prevent them from receiving proper dental care.
Additionally, coming from an immigrant family, I understand how difficult it can be to access healthcare, especially for those who may not have the financial means to afford treatment. This has inspired me to pursue a career where I can help underserved communities by making dental care more accessible and affordable. I want to be the kind of practitioner who is not only skilled but also compassionate, helping people regain their confidence and improve their lives through better dental care.
Ultimately, my mom’s experiences have shaped my goal of becoming an orthodontist—someone who makes a lasting, positive impact on others’ lives. This personal experience has driven my passion for the field and motivated me to make healthcare more accessible for those in need.
Success Beyond Borders
Title: "The Road Ahead"
Opening Scene:
The screen fades from black to a quiet, early morning. The camera opens with a wide shot of a small bedroom, the light of dawn gently illuminating the walls covered with inspirational quotes, academic awards, and pictures of family. On the desk, textbooks are piled high, papers scattered, and a laptop screen glows faintly. A young person sits at the desk, rubbing their eyes, deep in thought, contemplating the future. They glance out the window where the first light of morning touches the horizon, as if offering a glimpse of the path ahead. The camera slowly zooms in on their face, reflecting both determination and uncertainty. They push back from the desk, stand, and walk to the window, looking out over the quiet streets below. They pause for a moment, taking in the peaceful view, before heading out the door and into the world beyond.
Cut to a flashback. A young child, no older than 5 or 6, walks hand in hand with their mom through a rundown neighborhood, passing by a row of dilapidated buildings. The camera focuses on the child’s curious eyes, wide and alert, while their mom speaks softly, telling stories of her struggles growing up in a place where healthcare was scarce and unaffordable. “When I was your age, I never had the chance to get the care I needed,” she says, her voice filled with both sadness and hope. The child looks up at her, feeling the weight of her words, and something inside them shifts. In this moment, a sense of purpose begins to form.
The camera cuts back to the present, where the young person is now standing at the edge of a volleyball court, watching their teammates practice. The sun is setting, casting a golden glow across the field. They stand still for a moment, absorbing the energy around them, feeling the pride of being part of a team. Volleyball has taught them discipline, leadership, and teamwork—values that have stayed with them through every challenge they’ve faced. The ball is tossed into the air, and the camera freezes just as the ball is about to reach its peak. It represents the moment of potential, a future yet to be realized, filled with both opportunity and hard work.
A series of quick cuts follows: The young person is seen studying late at night, coffee in hand, pushing through another late-night cram session. Volunteering with younger kids at church, teaching them about life and faith, showing them how important it is to give back. Coaching young volleyball players, demonstrating drills, and helping them build their confidence. Conversations with friends about their dreams of attending dental school, helping those in need, and one day becoming an orthodontist. These moments, captured in quick flashes, highlight their journey and the path they’re carving toward a career in healthcare.
The montage ends with the young person standing in front of a dental clinic, looking up at the building with a sense of anticipation. The camera lingers on their thoughtful expression, showing a moment of clarity: this is what they’ve worked for, the beginning of their dream to one day open their own practice and help others who don’t have access to the care they need. They picture themselves in a white coat, transforming lives one smile at a time.
As the camera zooms out, the world seems vast and full of possibility. The sound of soft music plays in the background, signaling that their journey is just beginning. With each step, they will encounter challenges, but the road ahead holds promise, passion, and the determination to make a positive impact on the world.
End of Opening Scene.
Emerging Leaders in STEM Scholarship
I’m really interested in dentistry, especially orthodontics, because of my personal experiences growing up in an immigrant family. My mom had serious dental issues as a child, but because of limited access to healthcare where she grew up, she never received the treatment she needed. Now as an adult, she still faces the consequences of not having proper dental care. Seeing her struggle made me realize how important access to healthcare, particularly dental care, is, and it inspired me to want to help people in similar situations.
I’m drawn to orthodontics because it has the power to completely change someone’s life. A beautiful smile can boost someone’s confidence and make them feel better about themselves, and I want to be part of that transformation. I’ve seen how much a smile can impact a person’s self-esteem, and that’s why I want to focus on orthodontics. It’s not just about straightening teeth, but about improving a person’s whole outlook on life. In the future, I hope to have my own practice where I can make dental care more affordable and accessible for people who might not be able to afford it otherwise. I want to make sure that everyone, no matter their background, has the opportunity to receive the care they need.
The impact I want to make is to provide high-quality, affordable dental care and to advocate for better access to dental services, especially in communities that don’t have easy access to healthcare. I know how hard it can be when you don’t have the resources to get the care you need, and I want to make sure that no one has to go through that. My goal is to help people feel good about their smile, but also help them understand the importance of oral health and how it affects their overall well-being. I want to create a space where people feel cared for and respected, and where they don’t feel like they have to choose between paying for dental care or other necessities.
I’ve faced a few challenges in my life that have shaped who I am today. One of the biggest was moving in the middle of 5th grade. It was tough leaving my childhood friends behind and starting over in a new school. I had to work hard to make new friends and adjust to a completely different environment. At first, it was hard, but over time, I learned how to adapt, make new connections, and face challenges head-on. This experience taught me a lot about resilience, and it helped me grow stronger and more confident in myself.
On top of that, my family has faced financial challenges as we’ve worked hard to build a better future. Growing up, we didn’t always have a lot, but my parents always made sure we had what we needed. Their hard work and determination have inspired me to work just as hard to achieve my goals, no matter the obstacles I might face. It’s also shown me the importance of helping others when you can, especially those who are struggling to make ends meet. These experiences have made me even more committed to my goal of becoming an orthodontist and helping people who might not have access to the care they need.
Being part of an immigrant family has also given me a unique perspective on healthcare. I’ve seen how difficult it can be for people to get the care they need when they’re limited by financial or logistical barriers. This has made me even more determined to go into dentistry so I can make a difference.

One of my main academic goals is to major in biochemistry, a field that provides a deep understanding of the chemical processes that affect living organisms. I believe this will lay a strong scientific foundation for my future career as an orthodontist. Understanding the complexities of biochemistry will allow me to explore the biochemical processes that contribute to oral health, enabling me to offer innovative and effective orthodontic treatments. By pursuing a degree in biochemistry, I aim to bridge the gap between the scientific aspects of oral health and the clinical skills needed to transform lives through orthodontics.
In addition to excelling in biochemistry, I am committed to gaining hands-on experience in the dental field through internships and volunteer opportunities. I plan to work closely with experienced orthodontists to understand the practical side of the profession, from patient care to the latest technologies in orthodontic treatments. After completing my undergraduate studies, I will attend dental school to further specialize in orthodontics. During this time, I plan to not only develop my technical skills but also learn about the business aspects of running a practice. Eventually, my goal is to open an orthodontic practice that serves underserved communities and provides affordable, high-quality care.
My professional goals go beyond just providing clinical care. I am deeply passionate about advocating for better access to dental care, particularly in areas where people face financial and logistical barriers to treatment. I’ve seen firsthand the struggles my own family has faced due to limited access to healthcare, particularly dental care. My mother grew up in a country where healthcare was often not accessible, and as a result, she developed serious dental issues that require ongoing treatment. Her experience inspired me to pursue a career where I can make a real difference in people’s lives by helping them access the care they deserve.
Throughout my life, I’ve always believed in giving back to my community. As a volleyball coach for young children and a Ministry Leader at my church, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring and guiding kids in a variety of ways. Coaching young children in volleyball, especially in grades 1 through 3, has taught me the importance of patience, leadership, and nurturing talent. It’s not just about teaching them how to pass a ball or serve; it’s about building their confidence, instilling values of teamwork and discipline, and helping them understand that hard work pays off. Being a Ministry Leader, where I teach kids in grades 2 through 6, has similarly allowed me to mentor and inspire others. Through Bible lessons and activities, I’ve seen how much of a difference small acts of kindness and guidance can have in shaping a child’s future.
Volunteering has not only allowed me to give back but has also shaped my perspective on life and reinforced my desire to help others. The impact I’ve had on these kids has inspired me to make a difference in the world through dentistry. I want to help others, especially those who may not have the resources to receive proper dental care, gain that same confidence through their smiles.
As an orthodontist, I believe my ability to transform people’s lives goes beyond just aligning teeth; it’s about instilling confidence and improving their self-esteem. I want to be someone who not only fixes dental problems but also empowers others by giving them a smile they can be proud of. My ultimate goal is to create an orthodontic practice that emphasizes the importance of affordable care and provides high-quality service to individuals from all backgrounds, particularly those who may have limited access to healthcare.

I am passionate about dentistry and plan to make a positive impact on the world by becoming an orthodontist. Growing up in an immigrant family, I witnessed firsthand how limited access to quality dental care can affect people’s lives. My mom experienced severe dental issues as a child due to poor healthcare in her home country, which has led to ongoing procedures as an adult. Seeing her struggles inspired me to pursue a career where I can help others, especially those in underserved communities, gain confidence through a healthy smile.
Through my studies in biochemistry, I aim to deepen my understanding of oral health and develop innovative solutions in orthodontics. Beyond clinical practice, I hope to advocate for better access to affordable dental care and educate communities on preventive measures. My goal is to not only transform smiles but also empower people by giving them the care and confidence they deserve.
