NomineeBio
Hi, I'm Matt! I am a hard-working high school junior who wishes to achieve my goals and to always reach for the stars, while also never forgetting my humble beginnings.
As someone who grew up as a dual citizen of Poland and the United States, I've always been passionate about equality, justice, and making a change world as I have had the privilege to view it from different points of view. I am also an IB student, which has expanded my global mindset, time management skills, and passion for helping others in the community.
Outside of school, I can be found writing, volunteering, traveling, watching films (I love Tim Burton movies and Harry Potter!) and spending time with loved ones as these are the things I care about most. Moving into the future, I plan to attend a four-year college and major in international relations and political science, and eventually fulfill my dream of becoming a politician.
I would consider myself a great candidate as I am passionate, hard-working, motivated, reliable, and organized.

Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
At a young age, I gained a passion for helping others through charitable activities, which has increased over the past few years. This is alongside my passion for government and history which I discovered through primary and secondary education. Inspired by many world leaders and as our world has been facing increasingly growing challenges, my passion for making a difference in the world has grown tremendously.
At Edgewood High School, I demonstrate leadership in advocacy and service through the Principal's Advisory Council and the Student Government Association, where I work to represent my fellow students. I also take part in the Edgewood Band as a co-section leader, displaying school spirit and boosting morale of others during community performances, while having fun in the process! Lastly, as the editor-in-chief of The Edge student newspaper, I created a platform for students to express their voices.
My dedication to community service efforts extends beyond school, as I volunteer with the St. Francis de Sales Church youth group, Rise Against Hunger, and Welcome One Homeless Shelter, among other organizations. Volunteering, I have taken part in many activities including meal packaging, community cleanup, food pantries, cooking at homeless shelters, and community bingo events, just to name a few. All these activities were done with the aim of progressing one step at a time toward change, and I have continued to partake in them until this day.
Moving into the future, I plan to expand on my passions while pursuing a college degree in International Relations and Political Science this fall, with aspirations to achieve a Master's Degree. With a goal of working in the Federal Government, I am committed to improving the community and ensuring that the voices of its citizens are heard. And this year, I will have the honor of serving as a Student Page representing Harford County in the 2025 legislative session of the Maryland General Assembly, marking another milestone in my career and expanding my work of making the world a better place.
Before I wrap up, I wanted to address one more aspect of my life that impacted me – hardship. My journeys have been shaped by resilience in the face of hardship. Not too long ago, my father was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo surgery and extensive medical treatment. During the time of hardship, I helped my family financially and emotionally as the "man of the house" and experienced the despair that unfortunately many families face each year. My experience taught me the importance of family and community, and ever since, I have continued to work toward a better future where I can give back and make a positive impact on the wider world.
Following these experiences, I will never forget the happy faces of those whom I aided and will forever leave a mark on my heart. Whether through volunteer experience, performances, or representing student voices, I believe the activities I take part in benefit the community as they work toward improving the quality of life, inspire civic engagement, and address the needs of others. Undoubtably, the best part of taking part in these opportunities is that these activities build a better future for generations to come. As I continue to participate, I hope to inspire others to do the same and begin a movement of positivity within my hometown, like Kalia D. Davis did. Inspired by Kalia's story, I am applying for this scholarship as it will help aid my participation in community efforts while I pursue a degree in college, continuing my work toward improving the community. I would really appreciate your consideration.
Sammy Meckley Memorial Scholarship
Each person’s actions can make a significant impact on a community, no matter how small. Even encouraging kindness and positivity can change someone’s life for the better.
Throughout primary and secondary education, I discovered my love for history and government, as well as my passion for helping others through charitable activities. Inspired by many world leaders and as our world has been facing increasingly growing challenges, my passion for making a difference has grown tremendously. At Edgewood High School, I take part in the Student Government Association, Principal's Advisory Council, and National Honor Society. As a member of these organizations, I volunteer in the local community, and listen to student voices as a class representative, working to improve the school environment and make voices heard. I even had the opportunity to run for President of my school's Student Government, carrying out a campaign while listening to the concerns of the students and staff of my school, like today's political campaigns. Additionally, I am a proud member of the Edgewood Marching Band, an alto saxophone, who performs for the community during school events, community concerts, and parades, working to boost the morale of others while having fun in the process!
Alongside school-related extracurriculars, I also engage in many local efforts representing youth, volunteering for many non-profit organizations in Maryland such as Rise Against Hunger, Welcome One Homeless Shelter, and St. Francis de Sales Church, among others. Volunteering with these organizations, I have taken part in many events and activities including meal packaging, community cleanup, food pantries, cooking at homeless shelters, and community bingo events, just to name a few. All these activities were done with the aim of progressing one step at a time toward change, and I have continued to partake in them until this day.
Moving into the future, I plan to expand on my passions while studying International Relations and Political Science in college this fall, with a goal of becoming a lawmaker or working in a government field. I feel confident that the extracurriculars I am involved in have helped myself grow emotionally, and helped establish a steppingstone toward reaching my goals and making a difference in the community. And this year, I will have the honor of serving as a Student Page representing Harford County in the 2025 legislative session of the Maryland General Assembly, marking another milestone in my career and expanding my work of making the world a better place.
Following my extracurricular experiences, I will never forget the happy faces of those whom I aided and will forever leave a mark on my heart. There are many ways to get involved in community efforts, with each contribution having an equal influence. In my case, whether through volunteer experience, musical performances, or listening to student voices as a class representative, I believe the activities I take part in benefit the community as they work toward improving the quality of life, inspire civic engagement, and address the needs of others. Undoubtably, the best part of taking part in these opportunities is that these activities build a better future for generations to come. As I continue to participate, I hope to inspire others to do the same and begin a movement of positivity within my hometown.
