Hi, my name is Jordan Johnson. I want to become a BCBA and pursue in mental health crisis and substance abuse. I went through and completed rehab and a lot of the behavioral health technicians said that they could see me working in this line of work. I was going in and out of prison for substance abuse and finally started taking my life back.
I grew up in poverty and had to go through a lot of hardships in my life. I was raised by my single parent grandmother. We never had a steady place we called home. From living in cars, hotels, staying with strangers, to eventually getting a 1 bedroom apartment and sharing a twin size bed as a 13 year old. Life was hard on not only I but on my grandmother as well.
I had to go through bad physical and mental abuse from my mother. She had me when she was at the age of 14. She would punch me and beat me. I was terrified and scared of my own mother. But later in life I came to realize that she was only a child herself trying to raise a child. She ended up running away and going to the streets and my grandmother got full custody of me.
I started using and selling drugs by the age of 14. I used it to fill the void inside of me and to not feel the feelings, that a teenager does not know how to deal with all alone. I started selling it to first escape the hell hole of being poor. I was finally making my own money but slowly falling deeper and deeper into my addiction. Escaping my true self and filing myself with a false sense of pride and ego. I luckily graduated high school and continued my own self destruction.
I was in a cycle of going in and out of county. After I violated my probation the 4th time, I was sent to prison for 1.5 years. Prison saved me and taught me to become a working man. When I got out of prison I went to rehab for a year. I completed detox, residential, and IOP. That’s where I found my passion in helping others with their own mental health problems. All the hardships I have experienced was a tool to help others. I have life experiences that can relate and help other going through similar problems of their own. So I got focused and started getting certifications to help me become a behavioral health technician or peer support specialist.
I’m currently enrolled into Pima Community College for Phycology and my Associates Art Degree. I currently have 10 certifications. These certifications are Peer Support Specialist, First Aid, Blood Bourne Pathogens, CPR, Suicide Prevention, HIPPA Training, Be There Mental Health Training, Preventing Suicide in Emergency Departments, QPR Gatekeeper, and Arizona Recovery Home Academy Module 1: Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) 101 for Recovery Homes Certifications. My career goal is to become a BCBA. I’m currently enrolled for Pima Community College for summer 2026 classes. After a year or 2, I’m planning on transferring to University of Arizona.
I’m restarting my life over and making an effort to become the best version I know I can be. I will be the first in my family to go to college. I’m in need of resources to go to college. I am not going to cut corners like how I did when I was younger. I hope and pray I can get scholarships, to achieve my goal.

I am glad and fortunate to have over came a huge chapter in my life. A lot of people could not have made it, with the experiences and challenges I faced early on in life. But over coming it and being able to help guide and change peoples lives for the better, is the best reward I could have asked for. I’ve learned to be patient with people and to never give up on anyone like how I haven’t gave up on myself. My experiences helped better myself in my relationships and understanding how people go through trials and tribulations in life, to become the best person that they were meant to become.

Recovery to me means a lot of things. Recovery is about lived experiences. Lived experiences to help find your true self and to help know what you dont want for youself. Lived experiences also helps and guide others through their own journey called, "Recovery". Recovery is about taking it one day at a time, in pursing and achieving total absendence in your own sobriety. There is only 24 hours in a day that we all can make an effort to stay sober. Tomorrow is not promised, so you only need to make it through 24 hours. Recovery is a perosnal journey for many. Your own recovery can differ from someone elses recovery. Many people find different tools and ways of achieving sobriety, in their own recovery. Relapse is also apart of recovery. One might ask, "why is relapse apart of recovery?". Relapse serves as a learning experience. Strengthening your own coping skills and highlighting necessary adjustments in your treatments. Recovery uses your past experiences as strengths, turning them into the foundations of your mind and character. Recovery helps you, find and become the best version of yourself. Recovery helps inspire people by using your own trauma and experiences, to guide and show different coping skills to achieve soberiety. I personally went to rehab and got inspired to go into mental health crisis and substance abuse. im enrolle into college to become a BCBA. Currently, I'm a peer support specialist sharing my recovery experiences to help others, with their own recovery.
