FinalistBio
My name is Mason Jacquier, and I am from Southwick. From a young age, I was drawn to high-adrenaline activities like motocross and BMX racing, where I learned discipline, focus, and determination. I began riding dirt bikes at five years old and later competed in national motocross events, developing a strong work ethic and competitive mindset.
My passion for aviation began in 2023 when I took a discovery flight at Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport with Fly Lugu. The moment I took control of the aircraft, I knew flying was what I wanted to pursue. Soon after, I attended Westfield Technical Academy and was accepted into the Aviation Technology program, where I gained hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance while continuing flight training.
I am currently attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where I earned my Private Pilot License and continue training toward my instrument rating. This summer, I plan to attend Baker's School of Aeronautics to pursue my Airframe and Powerplant certification. I also hope to study in Alaska to earn a seaplane rating and expand my aviation experience.
Whether in the cockpit or on a motocross track, I strive to challenge myself, improve continuously, and pursue my goals with dedication and resilience.

My interest in aviation began with a discovery flight at Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport with Fly Lugu. Prior to that experience, I was heavily involved in BMX racing and competitive motocross, where I developed a passion for speed, focus, and discipline. The moment I took control of an aircraft, I realized flying offered that same excitement on an entirely different level, and from then on, I knew aviation was the career path I wanted to pursue.
Shortly afterward, I toured Westfield Technical Academy and immediately connected with its aviation program. Knowing acceptance would require dedication and hard work, I pushed myself to excel in every shop and academic area. My effort paid off when I was accepted into the Aviation Technology program, where I gained valuable hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance while continuing my flight training. My time in the hangar further strengthened my commitment to aviation. While I valued the technical side of aircraft maintenance, I found myself especially drawn to flying. Every lesson reinforced that becoming a pilot was not just a goal, but my intended path.
I later enrolled at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to pursue an aviation degree and continue my development as a pilot. My goal is to build a long-term career in aviation, eventually flying professionally while continuing to expand my technical knowledge through advanced ratings and certifications. I am currently working toward my instrument rating, which I plan to complete this fall. This summer, I will attend Baker's School of Aeronautics to pursue my Airframe and Powerplant certification, further strengthening my understanding of aircraft systems and maintenance. Looking ahead, I also plan to participate in a study abroad aviation program in Alaska to earn a seaplane rating and broaden my experience as a pilot while pursuing a minor in Airline Operations.
I earned my Private Pilot License on February 18, 2026. Achieving this milestone required dedication, adaptability, and persistence, especially while transitioning my training from New England to Florida under Part 61 instruction. Adjusting to a new instructor, weather environment, and airspace challenged me to become more focused and resilient. Aviation has taught me discipline, leadership, and the value of continuous learning, lessons that continue to shape both my personal growth and professional goals.
Outside of aviation, I have remained actively involved in my school and community. I was a four-year varsity soccer player and team captain at Westfield Technical Academy, earning All League and All Western Massachusetts honors. I have also competitively raced motocross for many years, earning championships and competing at the Loretta Lynn's AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship.
Community involvement has always been important to me. Through 4-H, I organized food drives, supported local shelters, and mentored younger members. As Post Captain for Aviation Exploring Post 1903, I mentored younger students interested in aviation and encouraged them to pursue their own goals. I also volunteered with Butternut Ski Patrol, Key Club, National Technical Honor Society, and local community events, where I helped teach younger students about aviation and supported projects benefiting my community.
I remain committed to challenging myself, embracing new opportunities, and continuing to grow both personally and professionally. Aviation has given me purpose, direction, and the motivation to continually improve, and I am excited for what lies ahead.
