As a nontraditional student returning to school later in life, pursuing higher education has required determination, sacrifice, and perseverance. I have spent the last 20 years working in cardiology as a medical assistant and currently work in the nuclear medicine department as a stress technician. Through this experience, I discovered my passion for nuclear medicine and diagnostic imaging and realized I wanted to advance my career as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
I will complete my last prerequisites this summer while continuing to work full time. I have applied to the Nuclear Medicine Technologist program at Galveston College and hope to begin this fall.
Balancing work, school, and my health has been challenging. I live with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), which requires ongoing treatment and expensive health insurance coverage. Because of this, I continue working full time while pursuing my education to maintain access to the medical care and medications I need.
Receiving scholarship assistance would help ease the financial burden of tuition, medical expenses, and living costs while allowing me to focus on succeeding in the program. My goal is to combine my years of healthcare experience with advanced training in nuclear medicine so I can continue providing compassionate, high-quality patient care.
