My career aspirations is to become a nurse in the future. I have always enjoyed helping people at their most vulnerable moments. The most rewarding part of being a nurse is knowing that you made someone smile at the end of the day. I have always had the desire to take care of people ever since I was a little girl and this is what has driven me to pursue nursing as a career. Why do I want to become a nurse? I want to make a difference in the lives of others even if it’s just a small difference. I want to be that ray of sunshine in someone’s life when they are sick or losing hope. I know that being a nurse is my purpose in life and I would live to pursue nursing in the school of my dreams. Nursing is so diverse and there is always an opportunity to learn new things every day. Nursing is always about building relationships with patients and family. I have meet wonderful people in my current job and some have even become friends. My love for nursing has led me to become a nursing assistant for the last 5 years. As a nursing assistant I have met a lot of patients that have put a smile on my face when I’m having a tough day. It’s the most rewarding career I can think of right now. I just graduated with my Associates in pre-nursing degree and now I’m ready to take my career to the next level at Pacific Lutheran University. My current studies has taught me a lot and I will forever remember the hardships I have had the last two and a half years. First off, my first quarter started as in class learning which later transitioned to online because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The most important lesson that I have learned with the online classes is to prioritize my studies above everything else. My current studies especially Anatomy has helped me understand the human body and how it functions. Diseases that affects us and how to prevent them. I have also learned a lot of communication skills which will be of help in my future career. As a future nurse being able to understand all this is very important as it make it easy to take care of the patients that may have some conditions that I have learned in my current studies. Philosophy has taught me logic thinking and I believe this will be helpful in my future career. Ten years from now I see myself with a masters in Nursing through hard work and dedication. I also see myself with a couple of Adult family homes where I can continue to offer my specialized care in a home setting. One thing that I have learned is that when most people age, they do not want to be stuck in a facility with a hundred other residents. I know for sure the ideas of a group home is good because it provides specialized care for its patients and my knowledge and experience as a future nurse will come in handy when I actualize this dream. Lastly, I will use my nursing experience to give back to the community through volunteer work and also offer someone a scholarship to pursue their career. There is nothing more rewarding than giving back and making a difference in the lives of people in this great community. My daily mantra is to “Always pay it forward”. Giving is not just making a donation, it’s all about making a difference.

My great inspiration was from the famous artwork of the Mona Lisa that was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. In this painting Leonardo painted a mysterious woman whose identity has not yet been proven. In this portrait the woman seems to be staring at something in the distance or the painter. I think her stare represents distance between herself and the painter. I was inspired by the portrait because of the mysterious mood that is created by the painter. At first glance, the woman looks like she is smiling but when viewed from another angle she looks like she is angry. The landscape of the Rocky Mountains portrays a dark gloomy mood which contrasts with the shading of her bright face like some light is shining over her. The artist uses the landscape of the mountains in the distance to create an illusion of depth. I chose this portrait because of the way he delicately used fine shading to contour her face, hands and her veil. The color scheme used on the portrait is that of yellowish, brown and a darker shade of brown. I believe he was trying to capture the warm in this portrait. The woman appears to be sitting delicately with class on her chair as she stares directly into the direction of the painter. The historic significance of Leonardo da Vinci artwork signifies the renaissance period. This piece if art is the transition that marks the period between the Middle Ages to modernity in the 15th and 16th century. His medical background gave him the ability to be able to paint the human body because he understood the shape of every part of the body. The most important thing I have learned in my life is appreciation. The greatest challenge that my family faced when coming to the US was lack of proper documentation to work. This was hard because we had to wait for eight months to be able to work legally in the united states. During that time when we were waiting we lived with friends in a small apartment that was barely enough to host two families. We lived off food stubs and this was what made us feel like immigrants. This experience has really taught me to appreciate life and what it has to offer. I have also learned to give those without because I know how it feels to not have anything and wishing someone cared. The act of giving and expecting nothing in return is the most rewarding feeling in the whole world. College is very important to me because I want to make a difference in people's lives as well as put a smile on their faces. I will be the first college graduate in my family. I plan to use my nursing degree work as a nurse and care for those that need us the most at a time when they are most vulnerable. For the community I plan to do a lot of volunteer work as well as sponsor someone in school that needs help to enable them to pursue a career of their dreams.

I go my middle name Wambui. It's a Kenyan name from the the Kikuyu tribe. The kikuyu tribe initially had nine daughters and Wambui was one of them. I love my name and the meaning behind it. Wambui means "zebra". This is a powerful name that is represented by traits such as caring, loving and very compassionate. Another powerful trait about this name is that the people named "Wambui "are go getters, have excellent problem solving skills and never gives up. I feel like this name was specifically chosen for me because I'm very compassionate and loving. Because of this traits I have chose to pursue nursing to continue caring for people and putting a smile in many face. I love my name and it totally describes me as a person. Thank you
