Bio

My name is Marvin Unuebholo, and I am a nursing student with a passion for healthcare and saving lives. From a young age, I have always been drawn to the medical field and the potential it holds to positively impact the lives of others. As I grew older, my desire to pursue a career in nursing only grew stronger and led me to pursue a degree in this field. I am currently majoring in nursing, and I am committed to excelling in my studies and acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to become an excellent nurse. I believe that nursing is more than just a profession; it is a calling that requires empathy, compassion, and selflessness. Additionally, I have had opportunities to apply my theoretical knowledge in clinical settings, where I have learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and critical thinking in delivering quality patient care. Despite my passion for nursing, achieving my academic goals has not been without challenges. My financial situation is not stable, and I do not have access to the resources that many of my peers take for granted. Nevertheless, I remain determined to succeed in my studies and achieve my dreams of becoming a nurse. Receiving a scholarship would be a tremendous help in achieving my educational goals and fulfilling my potential as a nurse. With the financial burden lifted, I will be able to focus solely on my studies, gain more hands-on experience, and develop the skills necessary to excel in my chosen field. My name is Marvin Unuebholo, and I am a nursing school student pursuing a career in nursing. Mental illness has had a significant impact on my life, both personally and professionally. Growing up, mental illness was not a topic that was commonly discussed. It was something that was often brushed under the rug or stigmatized. However, mental illness has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have seen loved ones, friends, and even myself struggle through difficult times. Personally, anxiety has been an ongoing struggle for me. From a young age, I experienced anxiety attacks that made me feel like I was losing control. It was a scary feeling, and I did not have anyone to talk to about what I was going through. As I got older and learned more about mental health, I was able to identify what was happening and take steps to manage my anxiety. Another way mental illness has affected me is through the experiences of loved ones. One of my closest friends struggled with depression and anxiety, and it was difficult to see her go through such a tough time. I tried my best to be there for her, but I didn't always know how to help. Seeing someone I care about go through something like that was eye-opening and made me realize the importance of mental health awareness and support. Professionally, mental illness has also had an impact on my career as a nursing student. Mental health is an integral part of healthcare, and as nurses, we play a critical role in addressing and supporting patients with mental illnesses. It is important that we are knowledgeable, empathetic, and non-judgmental in our approach to care. In my nursing education thus far, I have learned about the many different types of mental illnesses and how they can manifest in patients. It has been eye-opening to see how common mental illness is and how much more can be done to support patients. One specific experience that stands out to me was during my clinical rotation in a mental health facility. It was my first time working with patients who had severe mental illnesses, and I was nervous about how to approach them. However, as I got to know the patients and their stories, I realized that they were just like any other person, but they had an illness that required specialized care. It was a humbling experience to be a part of their journey towards recovery and see firsthand the impact that mental health support can have on someone's life. Despite the challenges that mental illness can bring, I believe that there is hope for recovery and healing. It starts with awareness and education. The more we talk about mental health and break down the stigma around it, the more support and resources we can provide to those who need it. As a nursing student, I am committed to improving mental health support and care in the healthcare system. I believe that nurses play a critical role in advocating for patients with mental illness and providing them with the support they need to recover and thrive.
    Ahmadi Family Scholarship
Growing up as a first generation Nigerian immigrant, life was not always easy. My parents moved our family to the United States in search of a better life and more opportunities. However, this move came with many challenges that we had to overcome as a family. One of the biggest challenges we faced was adjusting to a new environment. Coming from Nigeria, everything was different, from the culture to the language. I had to learn a new language and adapt to a new culture. This was not an easy task, as I struggled with the language at first. Furthermore, assimilating into the American culture did not happen overnight, it took time and effort. Another challenge was financial struggles. My parents struggled to find stable jobs, and the jobs they did have did not offer much pay. As a result, we struggled to make ends meet. There were times when we went without food, electricity, and even housing. I remember sleeping in a shelter with my family for several nights. The experience was traumatic, but it taught me the importance of perseverance. Despite these challenges, I never allowed them to hold me back. Instead, I used them as motivation to work hard and strive for success. I excelled in my academics and participated in numerous extracurricular activities, including volunteering with organizations that helped the less fortunate. I was fortunate to have mentors who encouraged and supported me throughout my journey. In particular, I found inspiration in my uncle, who was a nurse. I admired his work ethic and the impact he had on people's lives. I decided to follow in his footsteps and pursue a career in nursing. The journey to get where I am today has not been easy. It has taken hard work, dedication, and a good support system. As a nursing student, I have faced numerous challenges, including the rigorous academic requirements and long hours of clinical work. However, I have persevered and continue to work hard towards achieving my goals. One of the biggest challenges I face is financing my education. As a first-generation college student, my parents are unable to provide much financial assistance. The cost of tuition, books, and other fees can be overwhelming. I have had to work part-time jobs to help pay for my education and apply for scholarships to ease the financial burden. This is where the scholarship I am applying for would be of great help. It would provide much-needed financial assistance and allow me to focus more on my academics and clinical work. The scholarship would alleviate some of the financial pressure and provide me with the opportunity to further pursue my passion for nursing. In addition to the financial assistance, the scholarship would also provide me with the confidence and motivation to keep pushing towards my goals. It would demonstrate that my hard work and perseverance are paying off and that there are people who believe in me and support me. I believe that nursing is a rewarding career that allows me to make a positive impact on people's lives. As a nurse, I will have the opportunity to provide care and support to patients and their families during their most vulnerable times. I hope to use my nursing skills to make a positive impact in my community and beyond.

Mental health is a topic that affects everyone in some way or another. I have had firsthand experience with mental health issues that have greatly impacted my life. From struggling with anxiety to witnessing my loved ones’ battles with depression, my experiences have taught me the importance of mental health awareness and the need for open and honest conversations about mental health. One of the most profound ways mental health has impacted my life is through my struggles with anxiety. For many years, I brushed off my anxious thoughts and refused to acknowledge that I was struggling. I thought that anxiety was simply something I needed to push through and that admitting to feeling anxious was a sign of weakness. However, this mindset only made my anxiety worse, and I eventually found myself struggling to manage daily tasks like going to work or even leaving my house. It wasn’t until I sought help and was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder that I truly understood the impact that mental health can have on someone’s life. Through therapy and medication, I have been able to manage my anxiety and live a more fulfilling life. However, I know that I will always be prone to anxious thoughts, and I have learned to be kind to myself on the days when managing my anxiety feels impossible. In addition to my struggles with mental health, I have also been deeply impacted by the mental health struggles of those closest to me. Watching someone you love battle with depression is a difficult experience that can leave you feeling helpless. I have watched as depression has robbed my loved ones of their energy, joy, and motivation. It has been heartbreaking to see them struggle to find meaning in life and simply get through each day. However, I have also been in awe of their strength and resilience. Seeing how they have fought through their darkest moments has been a reminder of the power of the human spirit. It has also inspired me to be more open and honest about my struggles with mental health. By talking openly about mental health, we can begin to break down the stigma that often surrounds these issues and create a more supportive environment for those who are struggling. One of the most important lessons that I have learned through my experiences with mental health is the importance of self-care. Taking care of your physical and mental health is essential for your overall well-being. For me, this has meant engaging in activities that bring me joy, like reading and spending time with loved ones. It has also meant prioritizing my mental health by taking breaks when I need them, setting healthy boundaries, and seeking help when necessary. Another important aspect of mental health that I have come to understand is the need for community support. Mental health struggles can be lonely and isolating, and having a community of supportive people can be incredibly helpful. Whether it’s a therapist, support group, or simply a friend who understands what you’re going through, having a support system can make all the difference. In conclusion, mental health has had a profound impact on my life, from my struggles with anxiety to witnessing the battles of those closest to me. Through my experiences, I have learned the importance of mental health awareness, self-care, and community support. Mental health struggles can be overwhelming, but by talking openly about our experiences and seeking help when necessary, we can create a more supportive and understanding environment for those who are struggling.

As a current nursing student, I have the unique opportunity to learn about the vast world of nursing and healthcare. It is a privilege to be acquiring knowledge and practical skills that will allow me to make a positive impact on the world through my nursing career. In this essay, I will share a bit about myself and my plans to contribute to the nursing profession, promote health, and improve patient outcomes. Ever since I was young, I have been passionate about helping others. My parents instilled in me the importance of compassion and empathy, values that have shaped my outlook on life. These values have led me to pursue a career in nursing – a profession that allows me to care for people in times of vulnerability, help them regain their health and support them on their journey to wellness. Throughout my nursing education, I have realized that nursing is an art and a science, a unique blend of knowledge, skills, and compassion. As a future nurse, I aspire to embody these qualities, integrating my caring nature with my expertise and technical abilities. With this blend in hand, I hope to be able to make a tangible difference in the world of healthcare. One aspect of nursing that I am especially drawn to is the opportunity to be an advocate for patients. Nurses are often the first point of contact for patients, and therefore, they play a vital role in ensuring their patients' needs are met. As a future nurse, I plan to uphold this responsibility by making sure my patients receive the care they need and deserve. I believe that advocacy involves more than just treatment - it requires being present with patients, listening to them, and understanding their unique experiences. By building trust with patients and their families, I can effectively advocate for their interests and empower them to make informed decisions regarding their care. Furthermore, I am keenly interested in promoting health literacy and preventative care. I believe in the importance of educating patients and their families on maintaining good health practices to help prevent disease and manage chronic illness. As a future nurse, I aim to engage in health promotion efforts in both individual and community settings. By facilitating wellness programs, health clinics, and community health fairs, I hope to make a significant contribution to preventative health education. As a nursing student, I have had the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations, including older adults, children, and persons with disabilities. Through these experiences, I have encountered various healthcare barriers that disproportionately affect underserved communities. Therefore, I am interested in working towards reducing healthcare disparities and promoting social justice. During my nursing career, I intend to seek out and work in clinical settings that serve underserved populations and champion fair access to appropriate healthcare for everyone. Finally, I want to pursue the field of nursing research. With a deeply rooted interest in evidence-based practice, I intend to contribute to nursing research, explore best practices in healthcare, and develop ways to enhance care delivery. Through innovative research, I hope to contribute to the body of nursing knowledge and help translate research-derived findings into improved clinical practice. In conclusion, as a current nursing student, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn about the complex world of healthcare. I intend to make a positive impact on the world through my nursing career, drawing on my compassion, critical thinking, and technical proficiency to support patient care, promote health literacy, reduce healthcare disparities, and participate in nursing research.
Harry Potter and the Sorting Hat Scholarship
The mystical world of Harry Potter is undeniably alluring and enchanting. From wands and potions to mythical creatures and complex characters, J.K. Rowling's creation has captivated the hearts and minds of countless fans worldwide. As a Potterhead myself, the question of which Hogwarts house I would be sorted into has always tickled my imagination. It is an inquiry that demands introspection and an exploration of one's inner qualities. After much consideration, I believe I would be sorted into Gryffindor, and the reasons behind this decision are profound. Gryffindor, the house emblematic of courage, bravery, and chivalry, is a natural fit for individuals who seek to stand up for what is right, even in the face of adversity. Within me, I have always harbored a strong sense of justice and an unwavering belief in doing what is morally upright. These convictions have guided my actions throughout my life, pushing me to confront personal fears and step forward when others hesitate. While some may argue that bravery is only showcased in grand gestures, I have come to understand that true courage can also be found in the small, everyday choices we make. Whether it is standing up to a bully, speaking up against an injustice, or taking on new challenges, I have consistently demonstrated the courage to push beyond my comfort zone and advocate for what I believe in. Within Gryffindor, I would be provided with a community of like-minded individuals who embody the same principles I hold dear. Additionally, another aspect of Gryffindor that resonates deeply with me is their unwavering loyalty. While not often emphasized, loyalty serves as the bedrock of any successful endeavor. I have always prided myself on my commitment to friends, family, and the causes I hold dear. Loyalty is not merely a concept; it is a promise to be there for others, to support them in their times of need, and to defend their honor when necessary. These principles are integral to who I am as an individual and align beautifully with the values represented by Gryffindor. Furthermore, Gryffindor's reputation for its boldness and adventurous spirit perfectly aligns with my inclinations. I have always been an avid seeker of discoveries and experiences, eagerly embracing any opportunity to explore. With a natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge, I believe my inquisitive nature would flourish amongst the lion-hearted students of Gryffindor. Together, we would embark on daring escapades, fearlessly seeking the unknown and embracing the challenges that lie before us. Lastly, Gryffindor champions the importance of camaraderie and forging lasting friendships. In this house, the bonds formed are unbreakable, as each member upholds the ideals of trust, companionship, and support. I have always recognized the significance of genuine connections, valuing the friendships I have cultivated over the years. The sense of belonging and community within Gryffindor would provide a nurturing environment for me to thrive and foster relationships that endure a lifetime. As I reflect upon the qualities I possess and the values that resonate with me, it becomes clear that Gryffindor is the rightful house where I would be sorted. The courage, loyalty, adventurous spirit, and emphasis on camaraderie make it the perfect fit for my personality and aspirations. I eagerly anticipate the day I would step foot into the Gryffindor common room, surrounded by individuals who, like me, have surrendered to the call of bravery and strive for a better, more just world.

Over the years, books have been a source of education, entertainment, and inspiration to me. Each book has taught me something valuable, whether it’s new information, a different perspective, or a life lesson. I owe a lot to the books I’ve read, as they have shaped my goals and aspirations. One particular book that has significantly influenced me is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. The book’s central message is that anyone can achieve success if they have a strong desire, faith, and persistence. I read this book at a crucial time in my life when I was searching for inspiration and direction. “Think and Grow Rich” taught me that my thoughts and beliefs shape my actions and outcomes. The book encouraged me to set clear, specific goals and to work hard towards achieving them persistently. It instilled in me the belief that success is attainable if one is willing to work hard and continue pushing toward the set goals despite hardships and obstacles. Another book that has shaped my goals is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. The book is a beautiful tale about a shepherd on a journey to fulfill his destiny. The book taught me that every individual has a purpose, and it’s essential to pursue it relentlessly despite the challenges that may arise along the way. It also helped me understand that the universe conspires to support individuals who work towards achieving their goals. Moreover, the book encouraged me to trust my intuition and follow my heart, even when the path is unclear or feels uncertain. The insights I gained from this book have helped me make significant decisions in my life, including opting to pursue nursing as a career. Finally, another book that has played a fundamental role in shaping my character and goals is “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale. The book taught me that a positive mindset can make a significant difference in one’s life. I learned to cultivate a habit of positive self-talk, visualization, and affirmation. The book’s message is that positivity can lead to success in all aspects of life, including academics, career, and social life. Without the books I’ve read, I wouldn’t have developed a goal-oriented, resilient, and optimistic mindset. I approach life with an open mind and believe that anything is possible if I put my heart and soul into it. I continuously seek knowledge from reading other books, which I will use to pursue my long-term goals. In conclusion, books have played a significant role in shaping who I am today. They have taught me valuable lessons, guided me through hard times, and encouraged me to pursue my aspirations relentlessly. Through the books I’ve read, I’ve developed a goal-oriented, resilient, and optimistic mindset, which will guide me in pursuing my long-term goals. My reading habits have inspired me to continue seeking knowledge and growth, which I trust will guide me to personal and professional success.

I am passionate about soccer, not only as a sport but as a way of life. Since I was a child, soccer has played a crucial role in shaping my character and work ethic. More than just a game, soccer has taught me valuable lessons about teamwork, discipline, determination, perseverance, and the importance of practice and hard work. Soccer has always been a part of my life, from playing with friends in the street to competing in school teams and training with dedicated coaches. The passion for the sport comes from its beautiful combination of athleticism, skill, and strategy. The ability to work together to create an opportunity to score a goal, make a perfect pass, or execute flawless defense takes a lot of effort, coordination, and discipline. Soccer has taught me that the world works similarly to a soccer team, where people work in teams to achieve common goals. Everyone has a role to play; one person cannot do it all, and everyone has to work towards the success of the team. Without teamwork, an individual cannot succeed. This lesson has tremendously impacted my professional and personal life, by helping me to collaborate better, be more open-minded, and interact better with others. AI Innovators Undergraduate Scholarship
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an exciting and rapidly developing field that has piqued my interest. The ability of AI technology to analyze vast amounts of data, learn from patterns, and make predictions for the future is fascinating, and I believe it can play an important role in healthcare. As a nursing student, I am interested in exploring how AI can be utilized to improve patient outcomes and enhance the delivery of healthcare services. My past experiences with AI have been somewhat limited academically, but I have taken an online course on AI and machine learning to gain knowledge and understanding of the technology. The course introduced me to machine learning concepts, algorithms, data processing, and algorithmic accuracy evaluations. I found it intriguing to learn how AI applications can be used in areas such as image recognition, natural language processing, and prediction models. Apart from my academic experience with AI, I have also observed some AI applications being used in the healthcare industry. For instance, the use of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) has become quite common, and the data collected can be processed to generate insights that inform better decision-making. Similarly, AI tools can support healthcare providers with predictive analysis or suggest the most effective course of treatment for patients based on data inputs. After graduation, I aspire to become a nurse leader who facilitates the integration of AI technology into patient care delivery. As a healthcare professional, I believe that my future role will be to bridge the gap between the rapidly developing AI technology and the impressive possibilities it brings to healthcare. I plan to work with healthcare providers and AI professionals to identify opportunities for the implementation of AI. One AI-related project that I have worked on is the development of a predictive analytics model that estimates the likelihood of patient hospital readmissions. The problem tackled was that hospital readmissions lead to an increase in healthcare utilization and cost. We used machine learning algorithms to predict which patients were more likely to be readmitted within a specific time frame. Through this, we aimed to identify those who would benefit from post-discharge care planning, thereby reducing the chances of readmission. The AI technologies used for the project included Python programming language, data pre-processing libraries, data visualization tools, and machine learning algorithms. The dataset used for analysis included hospital admission and discharge records, demographic data, and clinical history. We used regression models, specifically logistic regression and random forest models, to predict the likelihood of readmission. The process we followed started with data exploration and the creation of a database for data input. We then developed a predictive model using the selected algorithms. We evaluated the accuracy of the model using precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. Finally, we developed a web application that integrated the predictive model to generate readmission risk scores for individual patients. The outcome of the project was a predictive model that accurately predicted hospital readmissions. Our model demonstrated high precision, recall, and F1-score metrics, showing its potential for implementation in clinical settings. The impact of the project could potentially lead to reduced healthcare costs and improved patient outcomes. In conclusion, AI presents an exciting opportunity to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. I aspire to become a nursing leader who can facilitate the integration of AI into patient care delivery. Through my past academic experiences and involvement in an AI-related project, I have gained knowledge and understanding of the technology. I am excited to see where this technology takes healthcare in the future and how we can use it to improve patient care.

Community involvement is an essential aspect of creating a better and more vibrant society. It is the act of giving back to society and positively impacting the lives of those around us. For me, the inspiration to get involved in my community comes from the desire to make a difference and improve the quality of life for everyone. I have been involved in several community initiatives aimed at improving health, education, and environmental sustainability. One of the community projects that I have worked on in the past focused on improving healthcare access and education in my community. I noticed that many individuals did not have access to quality healthcare, and there was a lack of information available on how individuals could better manage their health and wellness. As a result, I partnered with local healthcare providers to create a program that would educate people on the importance of healthy living and provide them with the tools to maintain their health. We hosted community health fairs and provided information on preventive care, chronic disease management, and mental health awareness, with a focus on educating people from low-income backgrounds about the importance of and access to healthcare. We engaged with the local community through various activities, workshops, and seminars aimed at providing people with the knowledge and resources they need to take control of their health. Another focus area of my community outreach efforts has been environmental sustainability. With climate change threatening our planet's future, I feel that it is essential to do everything we can to reduce our carbon footprint and protect our environment. To address this, I worked with local business owners, students, and community members to create a recycling program in our area. Our key goal was to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfills and encourage sustainable practices. We partnered with the local government and non-profit organizations to spread awareness about the importance of recycling and sustainability and have been able to increase our recycling rate significantly. We also hosted workshops on composting, gardening, and reducing energy consumption to encourage people to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. I also organized a tree-planting initiative in my community to address the growing concerns about deforestation and the need for a cleaner and greener environment. We planted trees and built a community garden to promote sustainable living and create a space for residents to come together, enjoy some fresh air, and bond over gardening. In pursuit of promoting education, I also mentored students in underserved communities to encourage academic excellence and promote lifelong learning. Working with young people, I was able to provide support, encouragement, and resources that they lacked, and inspire them to cultivate a love for learning and make positive life choices, something that is often crucial in families where education is not the priority. Finally, I also took an active role in creating community events, like neighborhood clean-ups, community picnics, and back-to-school drives, to create a sense of community pride and improve social cohesion. We created these events to help people feel more connected to the community, and help foster relationships between community members and local businesses. In conclusion, the desire to impact change and make a positive impact in society is what inspires me to get involved in my community. Whether it’s creating programs to promote health and wellness, fostering environmental sustainability, mentoring young people, or creating community-building events, I feel that it is crucial to give back to our communities and promote a better tomorrow.
    Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
Taylor Swift's '1989’ album is one of the most iconic and successful albums of modern times. Released in 2014, the album features a unique blend of pop and synth-pop, showcasing Taylor's growth as an artist as she veered away from country music and into the pop realm. The album's lyrics and beats describe an array of emotions, ranging from love and heartbreak to liberation. As a fan of Taylor Swift and her music, my favorite song in 1989 is 'Blank Space.' 'Blank Space' is an upbeat, catchy pop song with a playful melody and lyrics. As the second single off the album, the song immediately captured my attention with its catchy chorus and rhythmic beats. The song opens with a satirical monologue that captures the media’s obsession with celebrities' relationships and their constant scrutiny. Taylor uses this theme to criticize the notion that celebrities are merely "characters" in the media's storyline. One of the things that I love about 'Blank Space' is the witty lyrics. The song’s lyrics serve as a response to the public's perception of Taylor Swift as the "crazy ex-girlfriend" and the media's need to create drama. ‘Blank Space’ serves as a self-aware parody of all the negative press thrown at her. With lines like "So it's gonna be forever / Or it's gonna go down in flames / You can tell me when it's over / If the high was worth the pain / Got a long list of ex-lovers / They'll tell you I'm insane / But I've got a blank space, baby / And I'll write your name” Taylor Swift shows her self-awareness of how celebrities are portrayed in the media and how outsiders' assumptions can damage the public image of an artist. The lyrics were written in a way that can poke fun at her situation as well as the rampant media speculation that always surrounds her. In addition, the music video for 'Blank Space' is also one of my favorites. The video was directed by Joseph Khan, who has worked with Taylor Swift on several other music videos. The video features Taylor as a self-absorbed millionaire who invites her newest boyfriend into her lavish mansion, only for things to spiral out of control. The video depicts Taylor as a caricature of herself, as well as her perception in the public eye. From smashing phones to lighting his clothes on fire, she is depicted as the stereotypical "crazy girlfriend" that the media always portrays her to be. The video is filled with satire, intentional exaggeration, and self-mockery. The over-the-top tone and the theatrics in the video work perfectly to complement the song’s witty lyrics. 'Blank Space' is not just a fun, dance-worthy song, but it also allows Taylor Swift to showcase her vocal range from the hard-hitting verses to the catchy chorus. The production work on the song is immaculate, with a robust, well-engineered sound. The harmonies and electronic beats in “Blank Space” blend perfectly, making the song perfect to dance to and showcasing Taylor's prowess as a pop artist. In conclusion, 'Blank Space' is a fantastic pop song that holds a special place in my heart for its sassy and witty lyrics, catchy melody, production value, and music video. It's easy to see why the song was such a massive success and how it propelled Taylor Swift into pop superstardom. Taylor Swift’s versatile approach to music and her ability to appeal to a broad audience is what make her an incredible artist in the music industry, and ‘Blank Space is’ the perfect demonstration of that.

Building trust is not a one-time event, but rather a process that requires consistent effort. The ability to solve problems and make decisions is yet another crucial quality of an effective leader. Leaders should have the confidence to make difficult decisions and take charge when necessary. They should consider different points of view, and gather all necessary information before making decisions. They should have the ability to quickly and effectively solve problems, including conflicts arising between team members. In conclusion, leadership is essential in the volunteer industry. Leaders inspire, motivate, communicate, trust, problem-solve and most importantly, lead by example. Selflessness is a trait that is difficult to embody, yet it's an essential characteristic of human beings. It's the unselfish concern for the welfare of others, and it involves putting others before oneself. I believe that an important part of living a purpose-filled life is giving back to others. With this belief, I strive to embody selflessness in different ways, and I find joy in helping those in need. One way I embody selflessness is by volunteering in the community. I have worked with a food bank in my town to provide meals to those who are struggling to make ends meet. Through this experience, I have learned to put aside my personal needs and wants and focus on making a difference in the lives of others. It's a humbling experience to see how a simple act of giving can change someone's life. For example, I remember when I helped a family of four who had recently lost their jobs and were struggling to feed their children. Seeing the gratitude on their faces was a reminder of why I continue to volunteer and embody selflessness. Another way I embody selflessness is by being there for my friends and family. I strive to be available when they need me, to listen more than I speak, and offer comfort and encouragement during challenging times. There have been times when I have had to drop everything to be present for a friend in need, and it's a sacrifice I am willing to make to be there for them. Recently, my friend was going through a difficult time and needed a shoulder to lean on. I spent the day with her, listened to her, and offered words of encouragement. Even though my to-do list was put on hold for a few hours, witnessing the relief on her face was worth it. Lastly, I embody selflessness through small acts of kindness. It can be as simple as holding the door open for someone or expressing gratitude for a job well done. It's the little things we do that can make a world of difference to those who receive them. One example of a small act of kindness I recently did, was when I bought a coffee for the person behind me in line. I remember how surprised she was, and it was a small gesture that brightened her day. In conclusion, embodying selflessness is a way to make the world a better place. I believe that by putting others before oneself, we can create a more empathetic and compassionate society. It's not always easy to give of ourselves, but the joy that comes from helping others is worth it. By volunteering in the community, being there for friends and family, and performing small acts of kindness, I hope to make a difference in the lives of those around me.

If I could have everyone in the world read just one book, I would choose "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. I believe that this book contains important messages that are still relevant today, and it has the power to inspire empathy, challenge stereotypes, and promote social justice. To Kill a Mockingbird is a powerful novel that depicts the pervasive nature of racism and prejudice in the American South during the 1930s through the eyes of a young girl, Scout Finch. She learns from her father, the heroic lawyer Atticus Finch, the importance of standing up for what is right, even when it is unpopular. The book covers themes of racial inequality, social class, and gender roles. These are topics that still resonate today. The novel has timeless messages that can inspire readers to challenge stereotypes, promote inclusivity and foster empathy. It can help readers understand and identify unconscious biases and the impact stereotypes have on how we treat others. Readers can learn to respect other cultures and be more accepting of differences, hence creating a more tolerant world. Furthermore, To Kill a Mockingbird is a powerful tool for promoting social justice and fighting against racism. The novel teaches readers to appreciate others for who they are and not to make judgments based on their skin color. This notion is still relevant today in a world that continually battles racism and discrimination. Finally, the novel's representation of the legal system can inspire readers to become more engaged citizens. Readers can become inspired to use their voices and take action to change systems that they believe are unjust. “To Kill a Mockingbird” can serve as a reminder that systemic change can be achieved by challenging societal norms and institutions that promote biases, racism and discrimination. In conclusion, I would choose “To Kill a Mockingbird” as the book I would want everyone in the world to read. I believe that this book has powerful messages that can inspire readers to promote social justice, fight against racism and discrimination, and become more empathetic and accepting of others. I am confident that with its timeless messages, To Kill a Mockingbird would make an invaluable contribution to a more just, tolerant, and compassionate world.

Adversity is a part of life that we all have to face at some point. It can come in different forms, such as sickness, financial challenges, or personal setbacks. Overcoming adversity requires resilience, perseverance, and a positive outlook on life. In this essay, I will describe how I have overcome adversity and how I would like to help my community in the future. One of the most significant adversities I had to overcome was financial challenges. I come from a low-income family, and growing up, we struggled to make ends meet. There were times when we could not afford necessities such as food, housing, and healthcare. However, despite this challenging situation, I never lost hope. I focused on my studies, participated in extracurricular activities, and volunteered in community initiatives. I worked hard to excel academically, and this led to my being granted a scholarship. The scholarship eased the financial burden on my family and allowed me to focus more on my studies. I also utilized volunteer opportunities to gain new skills and give back to my community. Through volunteering, I was able to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and learn valuable life lessons. Looking toward the future, I would like to help others in my community who face similar challenges. I intend to use my experiences to inspire and motivate other young people who may be struggling through difficult circumstances. I plan to create and participate in initiatives that would provide resources and education to people from low-income households who are as academically ambitious as me. One of my biggest passions is helping people access education. I believe that education is an incredibly powerful tool that can transform lives and communities. I would like to establish educational programs and scholarships that will provide more opportunities for people who come from underprivileged backgrounds. I strongly believe that by increasing access to quality education, families can break the cycle of poverty and improve their quality of life. Another area I would like to impact is health. As someone who grew up in a family where access to health care was limited, I understand how health can impact the lives of many families. I intend to partner with nonprofit organizations to provide education and resources to people in my community on how to maintain good health and access health care services. By providing these resources, we can reduce the effects of diseases in families and communities and promote a healthier community. Lastly, as a minority, I believe that advocacy and representation are essential to ensure justice and equity for all. In the future, I intend to use my voice to promote fairness and equality in terms of education, healthcare, and other areas where there are disparities. I will leverage my knowledge and experience to advance the cause of social justice in my community. In conclusion, overcoming adversity has been an essential aspect of my life, and it has strengthened my resilience, perseverance, and motivation to help others that may be facing similar challenges. I believe that my experience has prepared me to contribute positively to my community by providing access to education, health care, and advocacy for underrepresented populations. I am confident that with these efforts, I can make a positive impact on the lives of others.

He stood up for what was right and used his voice to effect positive change in society. His example reminds us that each of us has a role to play in building a better community and world. In this essay, I will explore how I am an 'up-stander' and how I plan to use my voice to help build the black community. As an 'up-stander,' I believe that I must speak out against injustice and inequality. I believe that silence and apathy are complicit in allowing systemic racism to persist. I have never been one to stay quiet when I see something wrong, and I will always stand up for what is right. In my personal and professional life, I have always advocated for the marginalized and underrepresented. I have participated in various community service projects and fundraisers in support of organizations and causes that help lift and empower black communities. In addition to the theoretical knowledge, I have gained experience by undertaking several clinical practicums and volunteering in healthcare centers. Through these opportunities, I have been able to witness firsthand the kind of medical care patients require and the essential role nurses play in their recovery. Furthermore, I have developed essential interpersonal skills that will enable me to empathize with patients, manage my stress levels and communicate clearly. I have also joined several nursing-related organizations to gain more insights into the nursing profession and to keep abreast of the latest developments in the industry. Being part of these organizations has allowed me to interact with seasoned nurses and learn from their experiences. I am convinced that these experiences have shaped me into becoming an excellent nurse who will be able to maintain a high professional standard while still being able to empathize with my patients. In conclusion, my interest in nursing has been fueled by my early exposure to the profession through my mother's work in a local hospital. As a first-year nursing student, I am excited about the prospects of pursuing a career in operating room nursing. I have taken it upon myself to prepare adequately for this journey by enrolling in nursing courses, undertaking clinical practicums, volunteering in healthcare centers, and joining nursing-related organizations. I am confident that my preparation and passion for nursing will enable me to excel in my chosen field and make meaningful contributions to the health sector.

My name is Unuebholo Marvin, I am a Nigerian and also an 18-year-old college sophomore at Towson University, Maryland. I am majoring in Nursing and will graduate in the fall term of 2025 with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and get licensed as a Registered Nurse. At the age of 6, I started helping my mother whenever she had a medical emergency or fell ill. I never failed to remember to administer her prescribed medications in the morning and at night to her. I was always there for her throughout her sick and recovery phase. This made me obsessed with healthcare and nursing. I cherish being of service to others, offering them hope, and serving as a source of consolation and encouragement. I believe in love and positivity. I get so much satisfaction and joy from uplifting people's feelings. I want to be the reason someone recovers from an illness. I really can’t wait to start saving thousands of lives as a male black nurse. I understand it takes a lot to become a nurse but I know I will surely scale through because of my passion, focus, determination and discipline. Growing up in Nigeria, I realized that the healthcare system needs attention, especially in rural areas. Due to huge corruption by politicians, there is a lack of financial funding to build and maintain healthcare infrastructure. This lack of infrastructural funding has led to a lack of quality medical equipment and resources, forcing the healthcare system to still rely on old technology. There is also a scarcity of healthcare workers due to low wages that do not favor them in this economic crisis. Nevertheless, this same poor healthcare system is still expensive for some Nigerians due to unemployment and economic recession. My doubts and concerns are heightened by the state of other nations' healthcare systems. As a result, after I become established as a Registered Nurse, my major plan and goal for the future is to singlehandedly build 10 free high standard hospitals in 10 African countries. Millions of people will receive free, high-quality healthcare as a result, which will lower mortality and illness rates. Additionally, this will provide employment opportunities for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals across the continent with fantastic salaries. Secondly, I intend to establish a charity foundation that provides free medical supplies and instruments to thousands of underprivileged hospitals and healthcare facilities across the world. To combat miseducation and ignorance, this charity foundation will also develop health initiatives that will inform people all around the world about health, illness, and disease. Nevertheless, I also have experienced some hardships and complications. It has been quite difficult for my parents and I to pay for my out-of-state tuition fee which sums up to about $40,000 per year. To make ends meet for me, I work part-time for 20 hours during the school year and full-time for over 40 hours during the winter and summer break. I also put forth additional efforts to apply for scholarships online. Even though I have not been awarded a scholarship, I will continue to work hard and not give up on my objectives. Overcoming my financial hardship has made my career goals inevitable. I will therefore be able to complete my college degree within the four-year time frame if I can pay all my tuition fees. In summary, I have high hopes and aspirations for the future. I believe that my dreams and goals will become a reality and my hard work will be profitable.

During my seventeen years of dwelling in Africa, precisely Nigeria, I once encountered a life-threatening disorder as I turned fifteen. It turned into the widely known Malaria disease, which is transmitted by the female Anopheles Mosquito. It is one of the great sicknesses in Africa. With signs like muscle pain, headache, weakness, fatigue and fever you can inform that it's miles a lethal disorder. My mother and father rushed me to a close-by clinic, had been I was turned into treated. Malaria shouldn’t be lethal, however, in Africa it is. It gave me a first-rate challenge so I started to discover solutions. Solutions led me to grow my very own philanthropic organization named “The Black African Foundation (TBAF)” based in November 2019. The aim turned to reach out to twenty thousand residents amongst adults, youths and particularly youngsters to enlighten them on the effects of malaria and encourage healthful dwelling. As the president of the non-profit organization, I prepared fund-raising events at public places which was a good way to boost funds and awareness. I figured out a way to supply displays convincing people because my company is well worth their donations. The Black African Foundation (TBAF), taught me that small modifications have massive impacts. I generated funds of about 5,600,000 naira (?$10,000) below the primary month of fundraising, which I used to organize health-fitness enlightenment programs in seven schools, offer mosquito nets and pesticides to households and additionally distribute anti-malaria pills to hospitals in distinct underdeveloped communities. A few weeks after my first outreach, I turned in the invitation to the office of the State Governor by his secretary. We rubbed minds collectively on a way to get rid of the malaria crisis in the country. He presented me with $5,000 to support my organization. Later on, The Black African Foundation (TBAF) extended to ten distinct states throughout the country, which saved converting lives. The distinction between “The Black African Foundation (TBAF)” and different businesses is its emphasis on the fundamentals of creating modifications withinside the society. I can proudly say that “The Black African Foundation”, helped to considerably lessen the malaria instances throughout the country and for sure my goal was achieved. Indeed, taking small steps is a fine approach. This challenge I took turned into so profitable to me, I had the best time of my life saving human lives. This organization made me extra compassionate for human lives. It elevated my ardor and pressure for nursing and I agree that it’s my calling. I wish to change extra lives as a male nurse in the subsequent coming years as it has continually been my dream to change lives. As I am currently in the United States of America for tertiary education, I plan to continue to give back to my community through my charity foundation. I will organize health programs or initiatives in my community to enlighten people about health, disease and illness. I will also make it a priority to give out food, grocery items and clothes to less privileged people and those in severe need.

On the 3rd of May, 2022, I read news trending on Twitter that got me annoyed, vexed, frustrated and any other adjective that qualifies as unhappiness. This was the news about the “Leaked Draft of US Supreme Court Opinion Overturning Roe v. Wade Outright by Justice Alito”. This new law would allow individual states to make it illegal for a female to terminate a pregnancy. Some Twitter users also stated that there would be a non-violent protest in DC at 5 pm, in front of the white house that same day. A few minutes after seeing the news, without any hesitation, I brought out a blank placard and wrote on it in bold “ABORTION IS A PERSONAL DECISION, NOT A LEGAL DEBATE”. I quickly left my residence building and ordered an Uber, which took me to the metro to board a train from Baltimore to Dc. After about two and a half hours, by 5:25 pm, I finally arrived in DC and walked with some other protesters to our demonstration ground. We the protesters all stood for hours yelling and screaming at the highest pitch of our voices, crying, sweating, singing, marching and pleading for the US government and its supreme court to hear our voices to make abortion fully legalized. Why did I do all this? I’m a male but I understand that pregnancy is tough, draining, painful, uncertain and threatening to a female and then raising a child is overly complex and expensive in a country like the USA, where: the economy is continuously crashing, guns have more rights than women, the healthcare has failed, cost of schooling is overwhelming, childcare is never free, the cost of feeding and living is unbearable, and so on. So why lawfully make a child go through all this terror and suffering? Or is this a strategy to abuse and suppress the freedom of women? Placing a ban on abortions not only affects the females but also the males because they may be in the position to raise the child financially till the child grows. The truth is this doesn’t prevent abortion but safe abortion and the wealthy citizens will always find a way to get an abortion maybe in some other country but the low-class citizens will never, automatically giving them an additional burden which is the child. I would say abortion is health care because when you eventually give birth to the baby, the government has zero support for you, leaving you with thousands of dollars from the hospital bill to pay, which is mental stress. I believe it is a woman’s choice to do whatever she wants with her body because it is hers and not the property of the federal or state government. Again, if you like or dislike abortion, it's fine. If you want one, get one. If you don’t want one, don’t get one. If you think someone shouldn’t get one, stop. The only person who holds the right to decide whether or not to get an abortion is a person. I genuinely participated in this protest and movement as an ally because I believe in pro-choice and equality for women. This movement made me realize that not only my right but the rights of others is also important and should not be tampered with but should be respected by the government and other citizens. Allyship is indeed a great tool for transformation, change and progress.

    International Student Scholarship
Back home in Nigeria, it was every teenager’s dream to complete their higher education abroad, especially in the US. This is mostly because most Nigerian teenagers wish to be far away from their strict Nigerian parents to attain the freedom they never had. I ended up becoming one of the fortunate teenagers, whose dream came true. Before I entered the University, an hour couldn’t pass without me fantasizing about college life and the fun of it. I spent so much of my time thinking about the fun I would have in a new environment, meeting new people, getting a new set of friend groups, and getting to try out different meals. I joined my current University as an international student from Nigeria during the spring term of 2022. College turned out to be a bit different from what I expected. I have faced three major adversities just within my ten months in college. Firstly, I face a huge challenge every day with communicating with almost everyone because of my Nigerian accent. In most of the communications I have, I am usually asked to repeat a statement I said. It becomes more frustrating because some people laugh and giggle when I talk which is very embarrassing. Occasionally, I get annoying comments from others when I talk such as “are you from Africa”, “you’ve got a thick accent” and “you just relocated from Nigeria right?”. Due to the comments, questions, and facial expressions I get because of my accent, I find that I talk to fewer people and ask fewer questions publicly in class, which affects me both academically and socially. Furthermore, it is quite difficult to make friends and connections here in college than I ever expected. Everyone is all about their own business and daily activities. It takes a lot to get an acquaintance and even more to get a true friend. As a result of the loneliness I experience in college, sometimes I feel bored, moody, worried and depressed. The poor social life of students in college especially for international students like me isn’t talked about enough. Last but not least, during the school session, I work twenty hours a week to make ends meet. This entails that I work five days a week for four hours. My earnings make it possible for me to pay my phone bills, laundry, subscriptions, groceries and shopping, and other expenses. A little percentage of the annual out-of-state tuition fee of $40,000 is also covered by my income. All of these make it easier for my parents to pay off my huge tuition fee despite the current crash in the value of the Nigerian naira to dollar currency which exchanges one dollar for eight hundred and fifty naira. In summary, it hasn’t been easy to balance my job, school work, social life and personal time. My stay in the US as an international student has been challenging so far, but I believe it will all be worthwhile in the future. This scholarship will assist me with the payment of my tuition and textbooks for the approaching Spring 2023 term. In return, it will ease off financial stress on both my parents and I. My life's ambition is to become a male nurse practitioner, and this scholarship will significantly aid me in that quest.

Dogs are indeed the best living things on the planet. They are like God sent angels. Dogs love and accept you for who you are unconditionally. You can be your true self with them. They won't judge you, criticize you, make fun of you, make you feel less than or not enough, or intentionally try to hurt you just because it makes them feel better. They depend on you. You are their world, and they trust you to love them and take care of them. They are pure, and relationships with them are simple. You are enough for them. They are happy to see you and just be with you. It's easy to care for them and love them. They don't ask much of you, and they don't want you to change for them. They love you, even when you are at your ugliest, physically, mentally, and emotionally. They love you, even when you don't love yourself. As my friend jokes, lock your dog and your partner in the trunk of a car, come back three hours later, and guess who is happy to see you? A dog would cure you more than a doctor would. My experience with my dog has forever changed my perspective of animals. This is why I love, cherish and respect all dogs. Here is my story. My Dog's name is Teddy! He is a six-year-old cute Pomeranian Doggy that loves to play and can spend the whole day laying on his back for stomach rubs and pats. Teddy is also a Daddy! 2016 I painfully went through a lot, more than a kid could handle. I had lost 4 of my friends just within a few months. It felt like a nightmare, it felt like the world was falling apart and at that time I really wanted the world to fall apart. I couldn’t just believe the news of their deaths, even till now I can’t still comprehend it. I went into extreme mental and physical breakdown and was having suicidal thoughts, that my mum had to rush me to the hospital. I was diagnosed with Psychotic depression and was admitted in the hospital for a month plus, which made me miss my classes in school for a while. Fast forward to some weeks after I got discharged, I still felt so bad even though I had overcome the depression, so my mum suggested she got me a Dog. I didn’t take her seriously but when she got Teddy, I felt so much better even more than the hospital could make me feel. I can say Teddy is my life saver and is the main reason why I’m still alive because he has saved my mental health. Just looking at him gives me so much joy and happiness and Teddy has been the same loving Dog since we got him in 2016. He is indeed the love of my life and I will forever be grateful for this love!

I lived in Africa, precisely Nigeria for more than sixteen years, before finally moving to the US which is my birth place. Living in Nigeria was such a profitable one because I got to learn and appreciate so much about life, in both good and bad situations. Nigeria is a naturally blessed country with fantastic weather, bountiful natural and mineral resources and intelligent individuals. Despite all these blessings, Nigeria has her downside which are bad roads, insecurity, lack of energy supply, poor healthcare, illiteracy, crashed economy, underdevelopment, unemployment, increase in scam and crime rates and utmost corruption. The main cause of Nigeria’s downfall is her greedy, corrupt and evil politicians constantly embezzling public funds which runs in billions. They embezzle even the borrowed funds gotten from China and other countries. My biggest dream in life is a better Nigeria. A country where all children will be given quality educated without being abused for child labor and abuse. A country where all roads are properly tarred and coated without 3ft deep potholes. A country where everyone can easily afford breakfast, lunch and dinner. A country where there is a 24/7 power supply in every home with the absence of diesel enabled generators. A country where the youths are employed with good paying jobs without the need of indulging in cyber crime and theft. A country with zero corruption. A country where everyone is given equal rights. A country where you can sleep with both eyes closed, knowing that you will wake up the next day. A country where everyone is given sufficient healthcare without travelling overseas for surgery and treatments. A country where the naira exchange rate is equivalent to a dollar because currently, one naira is equivalent to 700 naira which is very unfortunate for country. I’m current studying nursing in Towson University, Maryland. My plan for a better Nigeria is that after getting licensed as a registered nurse and making enough money, I will start a charitable foundation that will support at least 50,000 kids and teenagers with free education, free school supplies, free food, free water supply, free healthcare and will also clear their pending bills or loans and that of their parents. Also, the charity will be able to empower youths in tech programs and full scholarships. I also plan to establish 10 high performing free hospitals in the biggest states in Nigeria to prevent citizens from travelling overseas. I’m really concerned about the education of the new generation because miseducation and illiteracy are biggest diseases we have in Africa not even malaria, what an irony? It is left for the youths of this time to rise and claim the better Nigeria in which we deserve because our parents and grand-parents have failed us by not fighting for their rights. I believe that other countries of the world should put hands together in fighting the corruption and bad governance in Africa. I passionately hope I will be able to achieve all these goals before it gets too late.

A Dog Changed My Life Scholarship
Here is how my dog changed my life. I was diagnosed with Psychotic depression and was admitted in the hospital for a month plus, which made me miss classes at school for a while.

I am a 17-year-old college student, already weighing a huge 250lb. Growing up, I wasn’t always like this, I believe it is my ignorance that caused me to be this obese and unhealthy at my young age. Everyone I have met for some advice on weight-loss would tell me to stop and change from my poor eating habits. I used to ponder on why everyone said this because I always thought I fed well and blamed my obesity on hereditary, which is false for me. Later on, I eventually got to believe and acknowledge the fact that I have poor eating habits which are caused by some factors. Firstly, I am fond of eating only sweet food items like ice-cream, cakes, donut, chips, burgers, chocolates, animal-proteins and every other delicious snack and junk food out there. Anything I eat must be sweet to my tongue and must satisfy my conscience not caring if it is healthy to my body system or not. Whenever my mom cooks with vegetables, I always put them aside on the plate or even throw them in the trash bin especially broccoli. My mom always gets angry when I do that but I never find myself caring. Secondly, I always feel like eating something. I would say I always feel hungry, even if I just finish eating a huge rotisserie chicken now, the next 20 minutes I would feel hungry again and crave for another meal. Again, I never get satisfied with a meal, I don’t stop eating until I feel like vomiting then I might stop eating. This is a bad habit that I have made effort to stop over the years but to no avail. Making it worse, I rush my foods without a break. Thirdly, I love eating junks and meals very late at night between 9pm-2am laying on my bed either watching a movie or gaming. My doctor told me that this is a very bad eating habit and causes more weight gain and he is factually correct because I have noticed it very much. Despite all this, I’m still willing to change from my terrible eating habit. I have been mocked and bullied by my siblings and friends for my terrible weight gain which gives me anxiety and depression. I go through a lot of social discrimination and injustice because of my body size. I’m not willing to change just to please the public but also to benefit my mental and physical health because I know excess body fat could eventually lead to poor health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke. I just want to have a healthy body system like majority of the teenagers in colleges. I would maintain this change by eating twice a day, not eating late at night, eating a balanced diet, drinking more water, reduce intake of junk food to 5% or less, eating more vegetables, reduce carbohydrate and calorie giving foods and eat slowly. I will also exercise at least five days in a week at the gym or in my room. I have ordered a treadmill online which I would love to be running on for at least 30-minutes every day of the week. My goal is to lose at least 50lb, before the year runs out. I believe if Moses Jerell Moseley can lose 150lb from 300lb, I can lose even more weight. Thank you MJM3 Fitness for giving me the opportunity to express myself, I’m grateful.
