The individual who has greatly impacted my life is my older sister, Vanessa. As a first-generation Italian-Albanian American, I grew up navigating the diversity of both cultures, they shaped my identity and aspirations. My sister’s journey, specifically her brutal experience in the ICU after a severe car accident, has significantly impacted my path toward nursing. When my sister was hospitalized, after getting struck by a speeding car, I witnessed the intense fear and uncertainty that came with her medical emergency. Sitting in the waiting room, I remember feeling helpless as doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to stabilize her. During this time I saw the true power of nursing. The nurses were not just healthcare providers, they were advocates, and they offered comfort and aid during patients' darkest moments. Their empathy and professionalism left an everlasting impression on me. I will never forget the way the nurses came into the waiting room and comforted me and my hysteric mother at our worst. I was shaken and in shock, my mother was completely worse, the nurses prayed with us and gave us reassuring words. Thankfully after my sister's recovery, I was able to reflect on what I had witnessed. I began shadowing nurses in diverse settings, especially in pediatrics, where I saw firsthand how they cared for children in vulnerable situations. This shadowing experience was transformative, I observed how nurses not only administered treatments but also connected with their young patients and their families on personal levels. They took the time to explain processes, listen to concerns, and provide comfort. This holistic approach to care confirmed to me the profound impact that nursing can have on both patients and their families. As I shadowed, I discovered my own potential in ways I hadn’t anticipated. I found myself drawn to the challenges nurses face daily and inspired by their capability to navigate complicated situations with classiness and faith. I realized that I could acquire similar skills and make significant contributions to patient care. This experience allowed me to build my confidence, reinforcing that I could succeed in high-pressure environments while upholding compassion and empathy. My sister’s experience in the ICU ignited my passion for nursing and drove me to pursue this career path with determination. I want to be a source of comfort for families facing uncertainty and worry, supporting them to navigate the complicatedness of healthcare just as those nurses did for us. Further, being a first-generation Italian-Albanian American gives me my motivation to do something that will leave a mark on the lives of others. I aspire to serve as an example for my community, demonstrating that it’s possible to overcome challenges and pursue a meaningful career. My special background fuels my passion to connect with diverse patients and provide competent care to all. All in all, my sister’s medical journey and the outstanding nurses who cared for her have profoundly shaped my aspirations. Through shadowing, I discovered not only the realities of nursing but also my own potential. I am determined to become a nurse who illustrates the sympathy and devotion I witnessed, aspiring to positively affect the lives of my patients and their families. I'm forever thankful for all healthcare providers and I am determined to care for all children in pediatrics, I want to comfort families just like the nurses comforted mine.

Growing up in Pennsylvania as a first-generation Italian-Albanian American profoundly influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations, particularly my desire to become a nurse. My cultural background has instilled in me a strong sense of family and community, both values that resonate deeply with the nursing profession. From an early age, my family emphasized the importance of helping others. My parents, who immigrated to this country, often shared stories of overcoming challenges and the significance of supporting others. This instilled in me a belief in resilience and compassion, qualities which I believe are essential in nursing. I learned that every interaction with another person is an opportunity to make a positive impact, whether small or large. I hope to leave an ever-lasting effect on my patients and their health, giving the best medical attention I can provide. Growing up in a diverse community in Pennsylvania, Allentown, I was exposed to various cultures and backgrounds. This experience shaped my understanding of the importance of empathy and cultural competence needed in healthcare. I gained an understanding of appreciating the unique backgrounds and needs of individuals, which both inspired me to provide personalized care that respects each patient's cultural identity. My time shadowing at St. Luke's Hospital reinforced this belief, as I witnessed nurses engage with patients from different backgrounds with kindness and understanding. As a patient advocate, I protect all my patients regardless of background or who they were and I will continue to do this in my professional career as well. Furthermore, my family's emphasis on education and hard work fueled my desire to pursue a career in healthcare. My parents often reminded me that success comes from perseverance and dedication. Their sacrifices to provide me with opportunities motivated me to strive for excellence in everything, including my studies, and to seek a career that merges my passion for science and my commitment to helping others. Nursing has technical skills and compassionate care, which align perfectly with my aspirations. The relationships I’ve built throughout my life have also shaped my perspective. Friends and mentors who are healthcare professionals have offered insights into the nursing field, inspiring me with their stories of making a difference in patients' lives, shadowing was the best decision I ever made it gave me first-hand experiences. Their encouragement solidified my decision to pursue nursing and I'm thankful I can combine my personal values with professional fulfillment. All in all, I am grateful to have grown up as a first-generation Italian-Albanian American in Pennsylvania It profoundly influenced my beliefs, relationships, and aspirations. It has taught me the importance of compassion, cultural awareness, and hard work. I am eager to bring these principles to my future career as a nurse. This path does not only reflects my personal values but also empowers me to honor my family's gift of resilience and true care for others.
