I want to become an Occupational Therapist; it is my goal to help kids who need it and understand how the human body works. I think I am a good candidate because this field I am very passionate about, and without some scholarships, it will be difficult for me to get through college.

Growing up as a pastor’s kid, I learned how important it is to serve. Serving has been a significant part of my life. Someone helped our family when we fell on hard times, which has allowed us to have amazing opportunities. So, I believe it is very important to give back, I want to pay it forward and help people when ever I can. Right now, I regularly serve others through teaching children in my church, partnering with my church to give back, and interning at summer camps.
One of the most consistent ways I serve is by teaching our children at church. Helping the kids grow in their relationship with God is very important to me. I try to teach them that the lessons we learn about compassion and God’s love are not only for church but also for the real world. I also teach that it is important to live out their faith through relationships and service. Teaching and leading our kids has allowed me to grow in my own relationship with my faith and has given me the experience and tools to teach effectively, which ultimately will help me in the future.
In addition to teaching the children, I partner with the church to serve our local and national communities. I often lead efforts to help these communities around the holiday season. In addition, we also serve on mission trips. Last week, I had the opportunity to visit some of the poorest regions of the Appalachian Mountains and deliver basic necessities and Christmas presents to families in the area. This experience allowed me to work with those across the country towards a common goal. I felt such a strong sense of unity, and it has sparked a desire in me to create and be a part of spaces that uplift those who need it most.
Summer holds a special place in my heart as I spend over three weeks interning at our church's summer camps. Our youth pastor has selected me to intern for the past three years. The most significant way I serve at camp is through mentoring and completing daily tasks that ensure the smooth operations of each camp. Whether mopping the floors or serving dinner, I do it all with a servant’s heart. My favorite part of camp, though, is building relationships with the kids. Mentorship has impacted my life, helped me grow my leadership skills, and given me lasting friendships. I plan to continue participating in programs that encourage mentorship and community in the future.
Overall, leading and serving others has taught me a lot and has allowed me to grow as a person. I want to continue to serve people the rest of my life, both in my career and beyond. This scholarship would allow me the opportunity to pursue my passions, get involved with different communities, and partner with others to make a lasting impact.
