Bio

Hi everyone, my name is Marshell Kennedy and I'm a freshman international business major from Howard University. A fun fact about me is that I am conversational in ASL. With my degree I plan on making a difference globally by enforcing equality and making sure everyone has a safe space where they can be themselves. This reason is why I chose to be in the business field. I will use my degree by opening trade schools and public schools so I can help with the lack of education in the youth and to help countries develop. Additionally, I will develop a tech company that is centered around the Tv media.

When I was little, all the little boys and girls knew what they wanted to be. Some wanted to be singers or actors and others wanted to become doctors or nurses. Unlike those kids, I had no idea what I wanted to become. Granted, all of us were five and six years old, so we had time to decide. When I got older, I wanted to be an actor and become as big as Zendaya or Raven Simone. I soon realized that this dream wasn't feasible and I need to find my next plan of action. Next, I wanted to be an engineer. I have always loved mathematics -especially algebra- and I have done very well in those classes. On top of that, the movie Hidden Figures came out and I saw how amazing it would be to be an engineer at NASA. I also saw just how much I could make an impact on the world. Sadly, this dream ended when I realized I hate geometry, as well as, I’m very bad at it. After this, I was lost again not knowing who or what I wanted to be. All my friends had ideas but I wandered aimlessly. After a year and a half, I realized I wanted to do something that would have sustainability and change people’s lives for the better, no matter how small. In the beginning, I had a past of just picking a field of interested I liked and based on popularity. I soon realized I need to mature and come to a concise decision in what I should major in because this field will be my life. In that year, I did extensive research through linked-in and youtube. These sites helped me see what majors I would be interested in and how to be in the field successfully. Not only that, but these online resources taught me how to help others through the field, which would help my career goals. Without them, I don't think I would be in the same place that I am in now. These platforms both helped me narrow down my decisions and showed me how to compare which field of study is best for me. All in all, this is how I came to the conclusion that I want to go into the business field. I cam to the conclusion that I want to own a company that uplifts people — especially the minority community— and helps people be able to live their everyday lives freely. To do this, I will build trade schools and public schools that will help the lack education in the youth and help the development in other countries. Additionally, I will come to develop a tech company that will be primarily centered around the tv media. I am finally on a path to success after the long journey I endured, but I wouldn't have it any other way. With the obstacles, I wouldn't be on the correct path in business that I am today.

Marshell Kennedy. It’s a name that means a lot to some, little to others, and none to most. This name just so happens to be mine. When people hear my name I want people to think highly of it. I want my name to bring joy to people’s eyes. When I think about myself my view is different from others because I’m on the inside looking out. Growing up, life wasn’t always easy for me. I went through struggles and tribulations that made me the woman I am today. There were times when people mistreated me based on my skin color, my gender, my body, and anything dealing with my physical appearance. Because of this, I often fell into depression and felt alone. Now that I’m older I NEVER want people to grow up the way I did. I never want them to feel alone, unwelcome, unloved, or any negative aspect dealing with their physics aspect, especially minorities. The things that they get reprehend on should be the things they love about themselves. This is why I decided I wanted to go into the business field. I often notice businesses market to certain group of people who have more and exclude a entire group of people based on their physical appearances. This is why society is the way it today. Society shows a certain group of people and tries to make it desirable. It acts like that’s the only way people should be or act like. This is entirely wrong, given that the majority of people aren’t like the people their marketing. Because of this, I want to open up a company that builds businesses that market to the minorities and people who are deemed as “lesser than.” The main business that will be under the company is my tv network. It will be called K network “Kennedy Network.” This network won’t be like most out there. It won’t market to all blacks, all whites, all anything. It will market to EVERYONE. It will have tv shows and movies that represent all types of people. It will relate to the public and show that people should love themselves and be who they are. Many people don’t realize how much shows and movies influence our mindset. For example, growing up all I saw was white people on television or in magazines. They would be the main characters, while the minorities would die off, be the villain, or be seen as lesser than. Not only that, but I also only saw black tv shows and movies that were mostly about slavery, or hardships of being black. VERY rarely did I ever see black people be main characters. This also caused me to grow up only having white barbies and white dolls. I used to want to be white because I thought I was deemed as lesser than. I thought I was disgusting and would ask God why am I black, what did I do to deserve to be the “lesser” human. I even at one point became suicidal over the fact of people judging based of factors I couldn’t change. Thankfully, I know now that I am worth just as much as anyone else. My skin color doesn’t hinder me from anything. I’m allowed to be whatever my heart desires. Yes times have changed since than. Television and the entertainment industry had gotten better, but it still can progress for all races, genders, and sexualities. So from experience, I know how much representation means to minority communities, or really people in general. My network has the potential to change the world and take it by storm. I hope to inspire people and show that people should love who they are. I want to show society that everyone is perfect the way they are and change its viewpoint. I want to achieve this goal so that one day there are minority little boys and girls who never want to change who they are, who will love themselves whole heartily, and who will never go through the trials I went through, especially based of physical things they can’t and shouldn’t change. I want to make a difference and all people’s lives. This is why I hope that one day my name will make a strong impact on people. I want to be the Tyler Perry for all people. I want all people to feel welcomed and prosper in life. I want to show that people don’t have to be confined into what society tells them. This is why I want to go into the business field.
