My interest in the wine and spirits industry started with my family. My parents grow wine grapes, so I have been around the wine industry and learned about grapes and winemaking from a young age. Being around that environment made me curious about how wine is made and what goes into running a business in the industry. Over time, that interest grew into something I could see myself doing as a career. My mom has also had some great experiences in the wine industry. She used to work with Master Sommelier André Hueston Mack, who is now featured in the Netflix series *World of Wine*. Hearing about her experiences and the people she worked with gave me a better understanding of how many different opportunities there are in the wine business. It made me realize that there is a lot more to the industry than just making or serving wine. My experience in stewarding has helped me learn the importance of hard work, teamwork, and paying attention to details. A lot of stewarding work happens behind the scenes, but it is still very important. Keeping equipment, work areas, and supplies clean and organized helps everyone else do their jobs. I have learned that even the jobs that may seem small can make a big difference in keeping an operation running smoothly. Working in this field has also taught me how to work with different people and stay focused when things get busy. I have learned to be dependable, take responsibility for my work, and help wherever I am needed. These are skills that I know will be important for me as I continue working in the wine and spirits industry. My biggest goal is to eventually open my own vineyard and create my own line of wine. Since my parents already grow wine grapes, I would like to take what I have learned from them and build something of my own. In the future, I would also like to get into whiskey and other spirits. I am interested in learning about every part of the business, from making the product to branding, marketing, and selling it. Overall, I was drawn to this industry because of my family, but I have stayed interested because I genuinely enjoy the work and the people involved. My experience in distilling and stewarding has shown me how much work goes into making a successful business. I hope to keep learning, gain more experience, and eventually use what I have learned to build my own vineyard, wine brand, and eventually a spirits business.
