In my journey as a high school student, I have always believed in the power of community and shared learning. One of my experiences that deeply aligns with the values of kindness, service, and fostering unity is my role in founding Ace 101 Peer Tutoring. This program was designed not only to help students academically but to create a sense of belonging, where both tutors and tutees could support one another, reflecting the same positivity and commitment to service that Jorge Campos embodied. In the summer of 2023, I prepared to found Ace 101 Peer Tutoring, driven by the belief that everyone has an inner ace, and with the right support, anyone can unlock their potential and thrive. I taught myself to use Wix and Canva to build the website, https://ace101tutoring.wixsite.com/a101, and create promotional materials, turning an idea into reality. Like Jorge Campos, I wanted to create a welcoming, positive environment where students felt valued, supported, and connected to their community. My goal was to promote both academic success and personal connections, fostering unity among students from different backgrounds. Starting the program wasn’t easy—I navigated school policies, met with administrators, and struggled to find the right contacts. Despite these challenges, I persisted and adapted until I secured the necessary support. As Jorge Campos often anticipated the needs of others, I learned to be proactive, adapting to the needs of my peers and my community. This experience taught me to remain flexible and patient, understanding that true service often requires creativity and perseverance. When the program launched at the San Jose City College Extension, it became more than just a tutoring service—it was a community. Students not only improved their academic performance but also built relationships, supporting one another. One day, a student came to a tutoring session, excited to show me his math test—he had finally overcome his struggles with algebra. This moment reminded me of the power of patience and positivity and how much of a difference we can make in someone’s life by believing in their potential. The sense of accomplishment I saw in my peers, both tutors and tutees, strengthened my belief that fostering positivity and unity can lead to success for everyone. Through this journey, I strengthened my leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while deepening my commitment to serving others. Like Jorge Campos, I learned that kindness and service can inspire positive change. The connections built through Ace 101 go beyond academics, as tutors and tutees encourage each other and form friendships. As I prepare for college, I’m excited to carry these lessons forward, continuing to foster unity and support within my community, knowing that small acts of service can have a lasting impact. Ace 101 Peer Tutoring has shown me the transformative power of service, patience, and unity. Just as Don Jorge left a legacy of kindness, I hope to continue fostering positivity and inclusivity in my future endeavors, always striving to make a difference. This experience has not only shaped my personal growth but also deepened my commitment to pursuing a career where I can combine my passion for community service and technology to create meaningful change.
