I am an incoming college student majoring in Psychology with the goal of becoming a psychiatrist. I am passionate about mental health and helping people navigate challenges that can often feel overwhelming and isolating. Through my future career, I hope to provide compassionate care, support, and access to resources for individuals who may be struggling silently.
My passion for mental health is deeply connected to my own experiences. During high school, my family experienced domestic violence, forcing us to leave California and start over in Texas. We left behind our home, friends, and everything familiar in search of safety and stability. For a period of time, we lived in a shelter while my mother worked to rebuild our lives. Adjusting to a new state, a new school, and an uncertain future was one of the most difficult challenges I have faced. Despite these obstacles, I remained focused on my education and continued working toward my goals.
The person who inspires me most is my mother. She came to the United States with very little and has overcome countless obstacles to provide for our family. Even after experiencing abuse and financial hardship, she never gave up. Her strength, courage, and determination taught me that difficult circumstances do not define a person’s future.
These experiences shaped my desire to pursue psychiatry. I understand how trauma and adversity can affect mental health, and I want to help others find hope, healing, and support. With the help of scholarships, I can continue pursuing my education and work toward making a meaningful difference.

Raised by a single mother, I witnessed firsthand the sacrifices required to keep a family moving forward through difficult circumstances. After experiencing domestic abuse, my family was forced to leave California and relocate to Texas. For a period of time, we lived in a domestic violence shelter while my mother worked to rebuild our lives. During that transition, I had to adjust to a new state, a new school, and an entirely different environment while coping with the uncertainty of our situation.
The move disrupted my education and social life. I left behind friends, teachers, and the support system I had known for years. Starting over was challenging, especially while dealing with the emotional effects of everything my family had experienced. At the same time, I often helped care for my younger siblings and supported my family however I could. Balancing these responsibilities with school required discipline and perseverance.
Despite these obstacles, I remained committed to my education. I challenged myself through AP, Honors, and Dual Credit courses and graduated with a strong academic record. The hardships my family faced did not weaken my determination; they strengthened it. They taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of helping others through difficult times.
As a first-generation college student, I plan to pursue a degree in Psychology and continue on the pre-med track to become a psychiatrist. My experiences have shown me how deeply trauma, stress, and mental health challenges can affect individuals and families. I want to provide compassionate care to those who may be struggling silently and help make mental healthcare more accessible to underserved communities. My goal is to transform the challenges I have faced into a career dedicated to helping others heal and thrive.
Kristinspiration Scholarship
Education is important to me because it represents opportunity, growth, and the ability to create a better future. Throughout my life, I have faced challenges that could have easily discouraged me from pursuing my goals. My family moved from California to Texas after experiencing domestic abuse, and for a period of time we lived in a shelter while working to rebuild our lives. During those difficult moments, education became something I could hold onto. It was a source of stability when many other parts of my life felt uncertain. More importantly, it became the pathway that showed me a future beyond my circumstances.
As a first-generation college student, pursuing higher education means much more than earning a degree. It means breaking barriers and creating opportunities that previous generations in my family did not have access to. I have watched my mother work tirelessly to provide for our family despite financial hardships and countless obstacles. Her determination taught me the value of perseverance and sacrifice. Seeing her struggles motivated me to take my education seriously because I know how much she has worked to give me the chance to pursue my dreams.
Education has also helped me discover my passion for psychology and mental health. Through my experiences, I became interested in understanding how people think, feel, and cope with challenges. I learned that many individuals carry emotional burdens that are often invisible to others. This realization inspired me to pursue a career in psychiatry, where I can combine my interest in science with my desire to help people. Education will provide me with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
In addition to preparing me for a career, education has taught me resilience. Balancing school, work, family responsibilities, and personal challenges has not always been easy. There were moments when success felt far away, yet each obstacle strengthened my determination to keep moving forward. Every achievement, from maintaining strong grades to graduating high school, represents more than academic success—it represents overcoming adversity and refusing to let difficult circumstances define my future.
The legacy I hope to leave is one of compassion, perseverance, and service. I want to be remembered as someone who used her education to help others and create opportunities for those who may feel overlooked or unsupported. As a future psychiatrist, I hope to make mental healthcare more accessible and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. I want people to know that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
I also hope to inspire others, especially first-generation students and young people facing difficult circumstances, to believe in their potential. I want my story to demonstrate that challenges do not determine a person’s future. With hard work, support, and education, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve meaningful goals.
For me, education is not simply about personal success. It is about creating positive change for my family, my community, and the people I will serve throughout my career. The legacy I hope to leave is one that encourages others to pursue their dreams, support those around them, and use their knowledge to make the world a better place.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
Making a positive impact on the world starts with helping people feel seen, heard, and understood. Throughout my life, I have learned that many individuals carry struggles that are invisible to others. Because of my own experiences with hardship, including moving across states, rebuilding my life after domestic abuse, and facing periods of housing instability, I have developed a deep understanding of how difficult circumstances can affect a person’s mental and emotional well-being. These experiences have inspired me to dedicate my future to helping others, particularly through mental healthcare.
I plan to major in Psychology and continue my education through medical school to become a psychiatrist. My goal is to provide compassionate, accessible mental healthcare to individuals who may not otherwise receive the support they need. Mental health is often overlooked or misunderstood, especially in underserved communities where resources may be limited or stigma may prevent people from seeking help. I want to be part of changing that reality.
Growing up, I witnessed how stress, trauma, and uncertainty can impact families. During difficult times, I often found myself taking on responsibilities beyond my age, helping care for my younger siblings while balancing school and work. These experiences taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of supporting others through challenges. They also showed me that a single caring person can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. As a future psychiatrist, I hope to be that person for my patients.
However, I believe making a positive impact extends beyond treating individuals. I also want to advocate for greater awareness and understanding of mental health. Too many people suffer in silence because they fear judgment or believe they must face their struggles alone. Through education, outreach, and community involvement, I hope to encourage conversations about mental health and help reduce the stigma that prevents people from seeking care. By creating environments where people feel comfortable discussing their challenges, I believe more individuals can receive the support they deserve.
As a first-generation college student, I also hope to inspire others who come from difficult circumstances. There were times when my future felt uncertain, but education provided me with opportunities to grow and pursue my goals. I want younger students, especially those facing obstacles similar to mine, to know that their circumstances do not define their potential. Through mentorship and service, I hope to encourage others to believe in themselves and pursue their own dreams.
Ultimately, I plan to make a positive impact by combining medical knowledge with compassion. My goal is not only to help people manage mental health conditions but also to help them build confidence, find hope, and improve their quality of life. Every person deserves access to care, understanding, and the opportunity to thrive. By becoming a psychiatrist and advocating for mental health awareness, I hope to create meaningful change—one person, one family, and one community at a time.
Pay It Forward Scholarship
Healthcare became important to me long before I understood the different careers within it. Growing up, I experienced challenges that shaped the way I see the world and the people around me. My family moved from California to Texas after experiencing domestic abuse, and for a period of time we lived in a shelter while trying to rebuild our lives. During those difficult moments, I saw how emotional struggles can affect every part of a person’s life. I also realized that many people carry pain silently, often without the support or resources they need. Those experiences inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare, specifically in psychiatry.
I chose to study psychology because I am fascinated by the human mind and behavior. Throughout my life, I have met people who appeared fine on the outside while struggling internally. I learned that mental health challenges are often misunderstood, ignored, or surrounded by stigma. I want to help change that. By understanding the science behind emotions, thoughts, and behavior, I hope to provide support to individuals who feel alone in their struggles and help them find healthier ways to cope.
My personal experiences have strengthened my desire to pursue this path. As the oldest child, I have often helped care for my younger siblings while balancing school and work responsibilities. These experiences taught me patience, empathy, and resilience. They also showed me the importance of having someone who listens and genuinely cares. I believe these qualities are essential in healthcare, especially in mental health professions where trust and understanding can make a significant difference in a person’s life.
In college, I plan to major in Psychology while completing the prerequisites required for medical school. My long-term goal is to become a psychiatrist. Psychiatry combines my interest in medicine with my passion for understanding and supporting people through mental and emotional challenges. I am particularly interested in working with underserved communities, including individuals who may not have easy access to mental health resources. Many families face financial barriers, cultural stigma, or a lack of awareness about mental health services. I hope to help bridge those gaps and make care more accessible.
In the future, I want to use my degree not only to treat patients but also to advocate for mental health awareness and education. I want to help create environments where people feel comfortable seeking support without fear of judgment. Whether I am working with children, adolescents, or adults, my goal is to make a positive impact by helping others understand that their struggles do not define them and that healing is possible.
My journey has taught me that difficult experiences can inspire meaningful change. By pursuing a career in psychiatry, I hope to transform my challenges into opportunities to help others, providing the same understanding, support, and hope that every person deserves.
First Generation Scholarship For Underprivileged Students
As a first-generation college student, pursuing higher education means much more to me than earning a degree. It means creating opportunities that my family never had and honoring the sacrifices my parents have made throughout my life. Growing up, I watched my family work hard every day to provide for me and my siblings. Even when money was tight, my parents always made sure we had what we needed. Their determination has inspired me to work hard, stay focused on my goals, and never take opportunities for granted.
The person who inspires me the most is my mom. She came to the United States with very little and built a life through hard work and perseverance. Despite facing financial challenges and living paycheck to paycheck, she always put her children first. She made countless sacrifices so that my siblings and I could have a better future. What amazes me most is that no matter how stressful life became, she continued to move forward with strength and a smile on her face. Watching her overcome obstacles taught me the value of resilience, gratitude, and determination.
My journey has included challenges of my own. In 2023, my family moved from California to Texas, and I had to leave behind everything familiar. Starting over in a new state was difficult. I had to adjust to a new school, make new friends, and find my place in a completely different environment. There were moments when I felt alone and uncertain, but those experiences helped me grow. They taught me how to adapt, build confidence, and keep moving forward even when life feels uncomfortable.
As I prepared for college, I quickly realized that being a first-generation student came with additional challenges. There were many parts of the college process that felt confusing, from applications and financial aid to understanding how to pay for college. My family and I had to learn everything as we went. The rising cost of tuition, housing, books, and transportation has created financial stress, but it has also strengthened my determination to succeed. I know that earning a college degree will not only change my future but also create opportunities for future generations in my family.
I plan to major in psychology and eventually become a psychiatrist. Mental health is something I care deeply about because I understand how important support, understanding, and access to care can be. As a psychiatrist, I hope to help people overcome challenges and improve their quality of life. I want to make a positive impact on individuals, families, and communities by providing compassionate mental health care and advocating for those who may not have access to the resources they need.
I also hope to inspire other first-generation students to pursue higher education. Many students come from backgrounds where college feels overwhelming or out of reach. I want them to know that it is possible. By sharing my experiences, mentoring younger students, and encouraging others to believe in themselves, I hope to show that obstacles do not have to define a person’s future. Hard work, perseverance, and determination can open doors that once seemed impossible to reach.
Being a first-generation college student is one of my greatest sources of pride. It represents not only my achievements but also the sacrifices, strength, and dreams of my family. This scholarship would help ease the financial burden of pursuing higher education and allow me to focus on achieving my goals. More importantly, bringing me one step closer to building a future where I can give back to my family and inspire future first-generation students to chase their dreams.
