Bio

I'm Grace! I'm a college junior studying Studio Art and Arts Administration. I have a small business where I sell my art online, as well as occasionally in person at markets and vendor fairs! With my degree, I aim to work in a non-profit community arts setting where I can help others connect to and explore the arts.

Art is part of everything I do, and it forms to basis for so many aspects of modern society. I see it in everything, and I can't exist without creating. I focus mainly in fiber arts, and I enjoy it for the tactile experience it gives me. It's a great way to connect to our history in a hands-on way, since techniques such as weaving, embroidery, and felting have been done for centuries. I'm pursuing a major in Studio Art and a minor in Arts Administration, which will hopefully allow me to work in a nonprofit setting where I can foster creativity in my community and spark connections with the arts. My goal is to make art more accessible to the public and prove that anyone can be an artist, regardless of age, abilities, or knowledge. College is expensive, and while my parents are helping me pay while I'm in school, they also have four other children to worry about. My mother can't work due to health reasons, so my dad is our only source of income. I will have a lot of loans to pay off after I graduate, and I'm trying my hardest to reduce some of the financial stress on me and my family. My parents have always been supportive of my art endeavors, which is something I'm eternally grateful for. They helped me get to where I am, so I would love to be able to give back to them.

My vision is to create beauty out of my negative emotions. I struggle with things like anxiety and motivation which are not beautiful on their own. I make a lot of my art to cope with negative feelings and express myself in a way that is uniquely my own. I’ve been doing school mostly through zoom for the past two years, and I’ve only been at school in-person for about two days a week for the past few months due to the fact that the high schoolers at my k-12 charter school don’t have a building to learn in. My education always seems worrying and uncertain, so I create art as much as possible to help me feel proud of myself and see beauty in the world regardless of my current situation. I currently run a small jewelry business, and in the future I hope to grow both as an artist and an entrepreneur. I plan to major in studio art in college and hopefully get a job as a museum curator so that my career is a bit more stable while I maintain my business on the side. I’m looking forward to incorporating my emotions and experiences into my artwork even more, and I can definitely see myself creating statement pieces for the public. I love having art as a way to express my own emotions as well as things that are larger than myself, and my goal is to impact others with it as well.
