I am pursuing my education as a Business graduate in marketing. There have been many difficult obstacles on my path to education. I have faced financial, mental, and physical struggles due to my low-income family, my ethnicity, and my medical issues. None of these challenges made me back down and give up. These challenges pushed me to keep going forward and get the education I need for a better future.
I believed that financial would help to pay for college but I learned that not everyone will qualify for financial aid or become the winners of a scholarship. The only way I can pay some of the tuition would be from FAFSA but FAFSA won't be able to cover most of the price that I'll need to get my education at a good school with a good business program. Coming from a low-income family, it is very difficult to save money for college no matter how hard we try. I live in an apartment with a family household of six leading to spending more money for food and clothes. Especially with the costs of living here in the United States make it impossible to save money for college. I started working part-time when I was fifteen years old, now seventeen, and have been contributing to pay bills and rent with my parents. Just by knowing what I struggled with before college, I can't even imagine how much I would need to work to try to pay off college afterward. I try my best to get into the school I wish to go to and to get the amount of financial support I need to make my dream come true.
I was born in Guanajuato, a beautiful city in Mexico. I came to the U.S. when I was between 3-4 years old. It was difficult for me to try and fit in because I was one of the few students who didn't understand the English language. I would be called racial slurs, be stereotyped, and many things that can make some people back down. I never let my ethnicity or my race stop me from wanting to achieve what I want. I know we Mexicans can have some ups and downs in support yet I learned that not everything will be nice and easy. I shouldn't rely on getting support and people always backing me up. I learned to be brave and independent because I know that I won't have everyone I have right now in the future.
When I was in third grade, I was diagnosed with a seizure disorder and was sent to a specialist from Downey, CA. Even though it is rare for someone to pass away from a seizure, it was still difficult for me to focus on my education when I had my life on the line every time I had a seizure. I have battled my way through this, getting an MRI, Medication and now I have been clean for 5-7 years from having a seizure.
To this day, I still don't let any challenges get in my way of achieving my goal of attending college and getting my degree to have a successful life. Everything I overcame will always be thanks to God and my family for always supporting me and my needs. They are the reason why I continue to chase my dream and always grow to be a better person. I hope I will have a chance to one day tell the world my story and to hopefully inspire or motivate them to never give up.
