You are doing truly doing God work! Growing up as a Haitian descendant in a 2 bedroom home with four siblings and one parent in a low-income household can be incredibly difficult. It's a challenge to make ends meet with only one income, and it often means having to make sacrifices in order to provide for the family. This can mean going without basic necessities or missing out on experiences that other children may take for granted. Sharing a small living space with so many people is challenging, with everyone competing for limited resources and space. Despite the difficulties, I know many Haitian are in similar situations showing remarkable resilience and strength in learning to persevere in the face of adversity and making the most of the resources that we have available. Pursuing a career as a civil engineer can be a fulfilling and impactful way to show leadership in our community in low-income areas. As a civil engineer, the opportunity to design and build infrastructure that can improve the lives of community members, such as roads, bridges, and public transportation systems. In low-income areas where access to basic services may be limited, civil engineers play a crucial role in developing solutions to these challenges. Civil engineers promote equity and access to opportunities, creating a more just and sustainable future for all members of the community. For those who are like me that is passionate about making a positive impact and contributing to the betterment of society, pursuing a career in civil engineering can be a deeply fulfilling path. As a civil engineer, there are many ways in which I can contribute to helping the Haitian community. One area of focus could be designing and building infrastructure that addresses critical needs, such as improving access to clean water or developing more efficient transportation systems. Additionally, I could work to support the development of affordable housing solutions, which could help to address the housing crisis in Haiti. Another area of focus could be promoting sustainable development practices, which could help to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and promote long-term environmental sustainability. Growing up in Louisville by the Muhammad Ali Airport is what inspired me to want to become an aircraft maintenance technician! To work at an airport named after the most influential man of all times was something I thought of doing since I was a kid. I always wonder what will I be doing if I got the chance. My dad worked as a cab driver at the airport. He would sit outside the airport to pick up passengers all day. He would tell me about all the celebrities that what come around derby but will also complain about how we needed more people in our community working at the airport. “ How can you name an airport after a black man but don’t offer them no job opportunities ”. I didn’t understand at how important representation was at that time but it’s a big missing key in our community. I wonder if Muhammad Ali would’ve work at an airport what would be his position? What job would he apply for? That when I stumbled across aircraft maintenance and how It is important to become an aircraft maintenance technician. Airplane’s are complex machines that require regular maintenance and inspections to ensure they are safe to fly. As an aircraft maintenance technician, I will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining various systems and components of an aircraft, including engines, avionics, and airframes. My attention to detail and technical expertise will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of passengers and crew members. Additionally, the aviation industry is constantly growing, and there is a high demand for skilled technicians who can keep up with the latest technological advancements. Becoming an aircraft maintenance technician can provide a rewarding career with a steady income and opportunities for growth and advancement. The salary in black neighborhoods is often lower than in other areas due to systemic racism and limited access to education and job opportunities. This has led to a lack of economic growth and financial instability in these communities. Having a high paying job could greatly benefit the community by providing individuals with more financial security and the ability to invest in local businesses and organizations. This could lead to increased job opportunities and economic growth, ultimately improving the overall well-being of the community. Additionally, higher salaries could also lead to a decrease in crime and poverty rates, creating a safer and more prosperous environment for all residents.
