As someone who has suffered from mental health difficulties and has had low success finding good advocates, my goal is to go to medical school and work towards psychiatry, gather a team of psychiatrists and social workers, and create the I See You Project (ISYP). The idea for ISYP came to my mind in a very difficult time in my life. I felt I needed someone to really see who I was and meet me where I was at directly, not expecting more or less, just pushing me forward to be able to meet tomorrow.
I hope that this business can combine different forms of therapy and a plan designed for each patient to achieve mental wellness. The first step of the plan is to gather different therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers from different ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, specialties and more to help patients find a partner in their journey they feel can really relate to them. In their actual plan it would include financial assistance, combining their hobbies with therapy, and monthly meetings with multiple care workers if needed to discuss further actions for the patient. I hope to also develop strong relationships with other organizations to support one another’s goals as well as provide a network for patients to be able to go out and explore their city. For example, making a connection with a sports complex for us to take a group of patients to go and play basketball to help them connect with one another or help individuals find jobs or internships. I hope for this to not only be another psychiatric building, but a place where we can guide patients to find their true identity that helps them reach their fullest potential and be confident to show that off to the world.
This is a passion of mine because of how much our world struggles with different mental difficulties. From addiction to depression, to schizophrenia to conversion disorder, some many people are in the need of being heard.
Through my own research on the homeless community, those with substance use disorders, those with chronic mental illnesses, those with short-lived struggles, those who are grieving, to those who are consistently discriminated against, and more, I have found that the number one thing other than medication is true support, but that is what a lot of people lack in these communities. Also, looking at the cost of healthcare, especially in the mental health field, it creates an unaffordable gap, pushing those who really need it under the water and then asking them to swim. I really want to bring life back to them, to tell them that they are worthy, and give them a home when the world is beating down on them.
