NomineeBio
I’m María Fernanda Espejo. Current hospitality management international student at Florida International University in my second year of studies. My dream is to graduate from FIU, gain experience in the hotel management area and become a hotel manager in the United States. My major is my passion. The idea of working to serve others and provide my best experiences during their travel is something I want to be able to achieve. I have a GPA of 4.0 and this is due to my effort and responsibility. Moreover, during all my high school years I obtained the Diploma of Academic Excellence and I was also awarded the “Premio Joven Orgullo de Lechería” in 2015, 2016, and 2020, from the Municipality of Lechería (the city where I live) that is given to students with an incredible academic performance.
For me, being bold is about giving your best at every step, fighting for your dreams, and defending your ideas. I consider that everything I have lived has formed me as someone bold who still has much to learn, and I am willing to be the best version of me. That is why now that is my moment to study at the university, it would be amazing to receive financial aid to continue my studies at Florida International University, one of the best universities for Hospitality Management. I will do my best to work toward my goals and give my all. Thank you.

Scholarcash Role Model Scholarship
My inspiration to follow
´A leader is one who knows the road, follows the road and shows the road´ - John C. Maxwell.
We all need a role model in our lives, a person that will guide us, help us, advise us, and motivate us to follow our dreams.
There is a person in my life who I admire and love and who I am sure is a role model because, with her convictions, thoughts, and ways of seeing life, she has been an important pillar that keeps me focused and willing to be the best version of me in every moment of my life and that woman is my mother: Maria Cristina.
I consider her my role model because, with her actions, she has taught me values and features that she puts into practice in her life. She is caring, decisive, and a hard worker; she is so full of life and always finds a way to get a solution, to reach her dreams, to share her experiences, and to give life advice. She is a woman filled with knowledge and wisdom; you can talk with her for hours and hours and never get bored because she is so educated and extrovert that she can give an opinion about anything.
On the other hand, I am a person that tends to be shy, diffident, sometimes insecure, and who gets complicated with simple things, but my mom has always been there for me, teaching me many things since I was little that I have managed to implement in my daily life.
She has taught me about being decisive, that I should focus and be confident when making a decision, to not be scared of making mistakes, not to freeze or get anxious when I have a problem, but to try to find what I think would be the best solution. As I mentioned before, she is someone who manages to control her emotions during difficult situations and who tries to solve her problems the best way she can. Every time I am indecisive, I always think: What would she do in my situation? How would she manage this? And that gives me the strength to do my best.
Also, my mother is someone that values education very much, for her knowledge is a tool, that if used correctly, will lead you to success. That is why, since I was a little, she encouraged my learning at school, and she motivated me to have extracurricular activities. Therefore, I managed to have the best GPA during all my years of school. Also, I entered music academies because I wanted to have singing lessons, and I showed an interest in learning new languages. Because of that, I received English classes with a private teacher, then I entered the French Alliance for French classes, and currently, I am studying Italian on my own.
My mom has also taught me about hardworking and entrepreneurship. I am aware of the fact that my mother and my father have succeeded because of their efforts. I remember several times when my Mom told me never to act badly, that everything can be achieved with work, and not to stain my name to be able to keep my head up.
My mother's role models have been my grandparents, and every advice she has received from them she has passed on to me, and it is something extraordinary to know that the advice will continue to be transmitted from generation to generation.
I always thank my Mom for being my life model, for advising me and sharing with me her wise advice, and I know that she will keep showing me the road until I can spread my wings and fly high on my own.
Giving Thanks Scholarship
My mother, my mentor.
´Gratitude is the most beautiful flower that sprouts from the soul´ -Henry Ward Beecher.
There is a woman in my life to whom I will always be grateful because since the moment I was born, she decided to receive me in her arms and give me all her wholehearted love, and that woman is my mom.
My mom is this strong and amazing woman who dedicated herself to raising my brother and me. I remember my childhood as one of the most beautiful moments of my life thanks to her, because she always was there for me, taking care of me, playing with me, teaching me every new thing I had to learn and when I entered the school, helping me with my homework, teaching me values, giving me all the tools to be a person of goodwill, and no matter how tired she was, she always gave me a smile and her support.
I will always be grateful to her because my mom always pushed me to be the best version of me. After all, she believed in my potential, and she still does. She is the kind of person that gives you the best advice, to whom you can talk about any problem you have, who will want the best for you, and I am grateful to life for having destined us as mother and daughter.
Since I was little, my mom advised me to learn about many things because everything I learned was going to help me in my future. I had Arabic Dance lessons, but what I really was passionate about was learning to sing, that is why I studied at a Music Academy for several years, and I achieved to record two covers, one in English and one in Spanish. When I was 12 years old, I started to study English with a private teacher. Thanks to this, I could get accepted at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Now that I am 17 years old, I can really see that all those lessons have helped me in my academic formation and that many doors are opening before me.
She is such an intelligent woman, and I admire her greatly, every day she motivates me, and I believe that no matter how hard I try, I will never be able to thank her enough for her efforts as she deserves because she gave me everything without asking anything in return.
I thank her for being my guide, for advising me, for believing in me when I feel insecure, for pushing me to achieve my dreams, for teaching me to have faith in me, and for stopping me when it was necessary.
Thank you, mom, for being my role model, and I always promise to let sprowl the gratitude flower in my soul.

Education: They key to your dreams
´Never consider study as an obligation, but as an opportunity to penetrate the beautiful world of knowledge´ - Albert Einstein.
Why is education so important to me? Since I was a child, I have always had a feeling of connection with discovering new things, since you enter a whole new world of knowledge where there is so much to acquire and learn, and I was lucky that my parents taught me the true value of education and its importance.
Education is a tool to avoid ignorance, is the path that people follow to be able to achieve their goals, open new doors, and be innovative and intelligent human beings.
Since I entered school in 2006, I always gave the best of me in every test, exposition, or project, and I had the honor of being awarded the Diploma of Excellent Academic Performance and having a 4.0 GPA until my last year of high school in July 2020. But the fact is that education is not only about getting good grades; for me, education has played an important role in my life because it has been that power that pushes me to be the best version of me, that encourages me to challenge myself to overcome myself, that gives me that necessary impulse to get out of my comfort zone and learn new things that will change my future for good.
If we are passionate about something, we should find ways to explore that potential, and I have done that with music and languages, which have had major importance in my life. Since I was little, I studied music, and I can´t transmit through words the amazing experience I had while learning everything about a subject I was passionate about. In 2018, I felt a door opened before me since I had the wonderful opportunity to record two covers.
Besides, I have always been fascinated with learning new languages, and when I was 12 years old, I had private English classes for 4 years, and even though I know how to speak English, I watch documentaries to improve my vocabulary, and I watch videos to enhance my hearing skills. After that, I started to study French, but I had to leave it due to the pandemic, and currently, I am studying Italian online because now more than ever, there are free courses available that one must take advantage of.
When I was accepted to the University of Nevada Las Vegas in Hospitality Management, I felt proud of myself because the SAT is a difficult knowledge test and I felt that I achieved that goal because of my dedication and education, and I am hopeful that with my effort, I will find a way to pursue my dreams.
Education has positively impacted my life, and I know that it will continue to accompany me to penetrate the beautiful world of knowledge.
