My deep passion and love for hair started very young. Growing up I did not have the steadiest, or ideal childhood. I learned to be independent and take care of myself and my own from a very young age. By age seven, I was taking care of myself on my own. I had to get myself ready, and take myself to and from school, as well as find food to eat. I did not have much help or support as my other classmates. Because I did not look or have with other kids, I was bullied and seen as weird and an outcast by everyone. Some would see that as a setback and let that define them as a person, but instead of giving up I learned to take care of myself and to make it my own. At seven I taught myself how to braid hair by looking at pictures and figuring out how to do it and make it neat. As time went on I started to love waking up and doing my hair for school. I noticed that I was actually really good at hair, that I had a natural raw talent for hair. I got a lot of compliments that lit up my world and made me love hair even more. The compliments gave me so much confidence . In high school I had to start deciding what was next. I wanted to do hair, but I faced a lot of criticism. I was told that it was not a real career that I should do more with my life like becoming a doctor . I started to believe everyone and let people sway my opinion and what I truly wanted. I was afraid of what people would think of me. After a long time I stopped caring and I realized that people should do things they love and have a passion for or they would be miserable and wasting life. My life has never been cupcakes and rainbows. I experienced a lot of loss in my life leading up till now. The most difficult being my grandpop who I call my Bepop. He was one of the best and most important people in my life. He passed away when I was still young, he was truly my favorite person and he only ever wanted the best for me. He taught me to dream big, that we only get one life and to not waste it, I should work hard, and dream big. As I take my next step into my future I know my Bepop is looking down on me proudly. Today I am happy that I have people around me supporting my decision to pursue this. My dream is to become a cosmetologist and to own my very own salon. Cosmetology is not just a career for me it is my confidence, my purpose in life. It’s not for the money or to look good, but to prove to myself that anything is possible.

From a young age, hair was never just hair to me. It was my outlet to express myself, to show my creativity, and present myself to the world. My deep passion and love for hair started very young. While growing up I did not have the steadiest, or ideal childhood. I learned to be independent and take care of myself and my own from a very young age. By age seven, I was taking care of myself on my own. I did not have much help or support, with clothes, or hair as my other classmates did. Because I did not look or have with other kids, I was bullied. My hair was often thrown back messily and I did not have nice or even matching clothes. Some would see that as a setback and let that define them as a person, but instead of giving up and taking what the world gave me I learned to take care of myself and to make it my own and make the best out of my situation. At seven I taught myself how to braid hair by looking at pictures and figuring out how to do it and make it neat. As time went on I started to love waking up and doing my hair for school. I noticed that I was actually really good at hair, that I had a natural raw talent for hair, more than some other people. As more time went on and I got better and perfected my styles I started to do other peoples hair, for sports, for events, and even just for fun. The complements gave me so much confidence and made my love for hair more than just anything, but a true deep passion for hair. While going through high school I had to start deciding what was next. I wanted to do hair, but I faced a lot of criticism and many people telling me that I would be wasting myself. I started to believe everyone and let people sway my opinion and what I truly wanted. I was afraid of what people would think of me if I pursued cosmetology and that I would be seen as a disappointment so I stopped pursuing hair. I chose to do sports medicine instead. I quickly learned that I hated it. I had no passion and was so miserable doing sports medicine and anything medical. After a long time I stopped caring and I realized that people should do things they love and have a passion for or they would be miserable and wasting life. I decided to follow my dreams and not let anyone get in my way. My life has never been cupcakes and rainbows. I did not have an ideal childhood and also experienced a lot of loss in my life leading up till now. I've lost a lot of people close to me. The most difficult being my grandpop who I call my Bepop. He was one of the best and most important people in my life. He passed away when I was still young but I loved him so much and he was truly my favorite person and he only ever wanted the best for me. His love and encouragement when I was young still drives me till this day. He taught me to dream big, that we only get one life and to not waste it, that I should work hard, and dream big. As I take my next step into my future I know my Bepop is looking down on me proudly for pursuing my dreams.

From a young age, hair has been more than just strands and styles to me, it's been my version of self-expression and a source of empowerment. Growing up, I didn’t really have much of a mother to help me with my hair nor did we have money I started trying to figure out hair because I had to do my own. What was a necessity quickly became into a passion. Experimenting with different techniques, textures, and colors became my way of not only understanding hair but also of understanding myself. Each braid, twist, and dye job was a step towards independence and creativity. My journey towards cosmetology is also deeply intertwined with a personal loss. The death of my Bepop when I was six years old left a void that words cannot describe. He was my biggest supporter, always encouraging me to pursue my dreams and excel in everything I do. Losing him to breast cancer was a painful awakening, but it also ignited a fire within me to live a life that honors his memory. His belief in my potential fuels my determination to pursue a career where I can make a difference in people's lives. Cosmetology is more than just a profession to me, it's a calling. I see it as an opportunity to use my passion for hair to help others. I am eager to immerse myself in the world of cosmetology, to learn from the best, and to hone my skills to create beauty and confidence in every client who comes sits in my chair. With every snip of the scissors and every stroke of color, I will carry my Bepop’s spirit with me, knowing that I am not only pursuing my dreams but also honoring his legacy of love, support, and unwavering belief in my potential. I am drawn to cosmetology because of the personal connections it brings. Hairdressing is an art, one where you have the privilege of making people feel good about themselves. I envision a future where I can use my skills to uplift individuals, helping them see their beauty and strength. Cosmetology is not just about transforming appearances, it's about transforming lives, one strand at a time. As I embark on this journey, I am excited to contribute my unique perspective and passion to the field of cosmetology. I am eager to learn from experienced professionals, collaborate with fellow students, and push the boundaries of creativity and innovation. I am confident that I can make a meaningful impact in the world of beauty and beyond. I am ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, knowing that my journey is guided by a deep love for hair and a commitment to honoring my Bepop’s legacy.

I want to be a cosmetologist and use my passion and skill to help people feel more comfortable and confident in themselves. My family has struggles since my Bepop passed on even living in a small house with 10 people in it. This scholarship would shape my future and help ensure and strengthen my path to become a cosmetologist. My goal is to become a cosmetologist and to own my own salon one day. I’ve dreamed about that from a young age and now all my determination and passion is going into making that dream reality.
