Dr. Tien Vo Healthcare Hope Scholarship
My journey into healthcare has been shaped by personal challenges and a deep desire to help others. Growing up, I witnessed the struggles of family members facing chronic illness and often felt powerless to ease their pain. These early experiences inspired me to pursue nursing as a way to transform that feeling of helplessness into meaningful action. I came to understand that healthcare is not only about treating illness but also about providing comfort, dignity, and hope.
The path toward this goal has not been easy. Balancing school, work, and family responsibilities has tested my resilience, yet it has also taught me discipline, empathy, and determination. Each challenge reminded me of the strength required not only to care for myself but also to care for others with patience and compassion. These lessons have become the foundation of the nurse I strive to become.
My career goal is to become a registered nurse who delivers compassionate, evidence-based care to diverse patient populations. In the long term, I aspire to advance my education as a nurse practitioner, expanding my ability to serve vulnerable and underserved communities. Through this role, I hope to be a voice of encouragement for patients during their most vulnerable moments—combining knowledge with kindness and advocating for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Receiving this award would ease financial pressures, allowing me to focus fully on learning and refining my clinical skills.
Throughout my journey, I have sought opportunities to apply my growing nursing knowledge in meaningful ways. One significant experience was supporting a neighbor who required IV medication management for osteomyelitis. For a month, I assisted him daily with safe administration and closely monitored his progress. This opportunity strengthened my clinical skills, deepened my sense of responsibility, and gave me confidence in applying nursing principles in real-life settings. It also reinforced the importance of consistency, trust, and compassion in patient care.
I have also overcome barriers in my personal journey. Balancing financial challenges with the demands of nursing school has required resilience, time management, and sacrifice. At times, I have had to work while pursuing my studies, carefully prioritizing responsibilities and giving up personal time to stay on track academically. These experiences have shaped me into someone who is adaptable under pressure, persistent in reaching goals, and deeply motivated to succeed.
This award would not only support me in achieving my academic goals but would also empower me to give back as a nurse who uplifts patients and strengthens communities through knowledge, compassion, and advocacy.
