I'm a first-generation college student determined to achieve my academic goals in studying biomedical engineering. To me, Engineering is a subject where I can not only satisfy myself intellectually but create real change that could help others, especially in the career I am pursuing: prosthetics engineering. Throughout high school and continuing in college, I am persistent in dedicating time to give back to my community through volunteer work. I have participated in and helped run clubs and honor societies in which we bring a multitude of volunteer opportunities to not only participate in ourselves but to inspire as many students as we can to volunteer with us. Recently, I have worked on the board of Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society where we provided ~300 students with volunteer opportunities, even while online. Our opportunities ranged from tutoring to participating in the food insecure outreach program our school offers. There were many experiences where I feel enriched my time here at SMC and improved my cooperation and leaderships skills I hope to apply in my major. I strive to continue to help others after I graduate by perusing a career in prosthetics engineering. While I know id to be able to help others through many fields, I appreciate engineering because of my genuine interest in the multifaceted subject matter. I feel that pursuing biomedical engineering will help me accomplish my goal of not only satisfying my own intellectual curiosity but also applying that knowledge I obtain to help individuals who have lost limbs and help grant them more accessibility.
