Bio

Hello, my name is Marcus Anthony Leal. I am a high school senior currently attending Donna High School, located in Texas. I would like to become an electrician to be able to later become an electrical contractor. I enjoy working with my hands to solve existing problems and making homes and businesses much safer and more efficient. I want to hopefully expand my business and create job opportunities for others-especially individuals from low-income backgrounds like mine. I also want to mentor young people and show them that trades can lead to a fulfilling career. Growing up in a low-income family with a disabled father, I’ve learned the importance of hard work and perseverance. I’ve maintained a 3.1 GPA while helping care for my three younger brothers. These responsibilities have taught me discipline, responsibility, and time management. I also participate in ROTC, studying to be a Corporal, where I have learned to be a leader. I also play guitar at Saint Joseph's Church, where I give back to my community by serving through song. I believe I’m a great candidate because I’m determined, hardworking, and committed to making a positive impact on my community. I’m excited to pursue my education and career, knowing that it will allow me to provide for my family and contribute to the success of others.

      Dustan Biegler Memorial Scholarship
      Winner
My name is Marcus Leal, and I am looking for a career as an electrician through South Texas College's Electrical Associate of Applied Science AAS program. I am drawn to the skilled trades because they offer stability, good pay, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact in my community. Since I was little, I was fascinated by electric systems, be it helping my uncle fix it or observing the electricians. Over time, this fascination had grown into something more, a passion, and now I am all set to turn that passion into a career. Dustan Biegler's story touches my heart on such a personal way. He was a humble and hardworking roofer who wanted others also to be successful. Dustan's leadership and perseverance inspire me not only to excel in my trade but also to help others build successful careers in their chosen fields. I believe that a successful tradesperson is not only defined by technical proficiency but also by being able to mentor and empower other individuals. Dustan’s dedication to others’ success motivates me to follow in his footsteps, make a difference, and lead by guiding others in their careers. A key reason for my decision to enter the electrical trade is my father. He is disabled and receives government assistance, but much of his income is taken due to child support, leaving us financially unstable. Despite all these setbacks, my father has always worked tirelessly to sustain our family, and he has imparted to me the values of determination, honesty, and commitment. His own sacrifices have instilled in me the importance of building a better tomorrow. His words of wisdom, "Build yourself a good future so you don't end up like me," have been etched in my mind since then. I would like to honor his sacrifices by creating a stable future for my family and myself, removing ourselves from the financial instability that he is presently facing and doing something that will endure for us. By enrolling in STC's training program, I am excited about gaining the technical knowledge and on-the-job experience necessary to become a successful electrician. Work as an electrician is an expansive field with much potential, from wiring residential single-family dwellings to major commercial buildings. My final objective is to have my own electrical company. Not only will this bring wealth to my family, but I will also be able to educate and mentor the inexperienced in the trade. Like Dustan and my dad helped me, I want to be a mentor and a role model for others to assist them in becoming successful within their careers. In addition to technical skills, I am driven by a desire to benefit society. Electricians play an important role in making electrical systems safe and effective, and I want to be able to make a difference through providing quality services. I also want to motivate others to come into the trades and mentor the newbies. Like Dustan, I want to create a working environment where people feel respected, valued, and empowered to succeed. In general, my dream of becoming an electrician is motivated by the need to create a secure future and acknowledge the sacrifices that my father made for our family. Dustan Biegler's leadership and mentorship are an inspiration force as I work towards my career. I am committed to pursuing this path with enthusiasm and integrity. On a professional level, I would like to build not only electrical systems but also a legacy of leadership, perseverance, and impacting people's lives.
John Geremia Memorial Industrial Trades Scholarship
My name is Marcus Leal, and I am a senior in Donna High School with a strong passion for the skilled trades, which include becoming an electrician. My plan is to go to South Texas College (STC) to learn the skills necessary to enter this field. My father taught me the basics of wiring and electrical repair when I was growing up as we both fixed things around our house. These hands-on experiences ignited my passion to become an electrician, and I'm now looking forward to making this hobby my profession. Other than school, I also volunteer in my church choir, singing and playing the guitar during Mass. This has taught me the importance of teamwork and communication since I work collaboratively with other people to practice and perform before our parishioners. I have taken on leadership roles in organizing rehearsals and preparing the choir members for our performances. I gained the ability to be organized, manage my time, and work with others for a common objective. These are the same abilities that I know will benefit me in the trades, especially as I work with a team in a high-speed environment. To assist in taking care of my family, I also part-time work at Pizza Hut. Balancing school, work, and keeping house has not been simple, but it has learned me a great deal about working hard and prioritizing the proper things. It is not always the simplest thing, but I am committed to the electrician career and would like to continue learning and mastering the skills that are required in order to excel in that field. This scholarship would help me take one step further towards becoming an electrician. I believe the skills I have gained by having job experience, being a choir director, and holding employment while in school have adequately prepared me for work in the trades. I'm excited to continue my studies at STC, where I'll be further able to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be a good electrician. This scholarship will bring me one step closer to making my dream a reality.
      Text-Em-All Founders Scholarship
My name is Marcus Leal, and I am 17 years old; I turn 18 on February 22. Currently, I am a high school senior at Donna High School with huge aspirations for my future. I want to become an electrician and then own my electrical contracting business. I plan to go to South Texas College; this is a two-year program, but my family is in such bad financial shape that paying for college is very hard. My dad, too, is not able to work because of the disability, thus my family and I are mostly dependent on assistance from the government. This scholarship, therefore, is going to contribute a lot toward making my dream a reality. He has been a source of inspiration throughout my childhood. Although disabled and thus incapable of providing, he has seen us through. We rely on food stamps and other government aids, but he has never made us feel our struggle; always telling my brother and me to reach for the top-he's a high school dropout, doesn't want to see that in us. He would always tell us, "Don't give up, don't ever be like me." And that is what gets me going every day. He's already made my dad proud by getting his certification to weld and is currently job searching. Now, it's my turn to follow through with my dreams: I want to attend college, become an electrician, and take care of my family someday in the way my father never could. However, without financial help, I can't do that. I have always been the kind of person who likes working with his hands, and I know being an electrician is the right path for me. It's a career that offers stability, and it's something I'm passionate about. More than that, though, I want to use my skills to give back to my family and my community. My dad taught me that no matter how hard things get, you should always try to help others when you can. I have tried to live this lesson through my involvement in my church's nonprofit youth ministry. I play guitar in the children's choir, and it is one of the most rewarding things I have done. We perform for the congregation, bringing joy into the community and a sense of togetherness. Volunteering has taught me that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a difference, and I want to carry this spirit of service with me as I grow in my career. Growing up poor has never been easy, but my mother left me when I was young, leaving just me, my dad, and my brother. But in spite of everything, we have always remained together. It is from this that I know how to be supportive and also the importance of family and community. I will be able to give back to them both: enabling my family and using my skills to help my community. This scholarship will make much difference in the pursuing of my goals. This scholarship will afford me with the chance to attend STC and to take courses necessary to embark on my career. I promise to work hard, give back to the community, and impact other people positively. My big picture is making a different life for my family because my dad has sacrificed much in life for my education. I hope you consider my application. This scholarship will serve as an essential step to advance my dreams and aspirations further, where I vow to work with extreme hard work in achieving most of it.
      Gomez Family Legacy Scholarship
I remember seeing my dad give up a lot in raising my brothers and me since childhood. Mama left us when we were young, but despite all odds, Father did his best to bring us up. He worked hard, but as his disability check covered just half of our necessities-half of it went to child support-our family had to rely on food stamps of SNAP and Medicare to survive. Despite the financial struggles, my dad always made sure we had everything we needed. His dedication shaped my desire to work hard and succeed, no matter the obstacles. I didn't understand the severity of our situation much as a child, but as years passed, I watched my dad struggle to make ends meet. He didn't have a high school diploma, and his life was riddled with barriers. He would say to me over and over again, "I don't want you to end up like me.". I want you to give everything to your family-so many things that I was unable to provide to you." These have stuck in my mind and formed my motivation for so many of the dreams that fill my brain: breaking a continuous circle of poverty to create new opportunities my dad never enjoyed. I want to be that provider-the one who can give my family everything they deserve. Currently, as a high school senior, I work at Pizza Hut to save money for college. I know this is not the most glamorous job, but this is an essential step in inching closer to those goals. I have always been interested in working with my hands, which is why I plan to attend college to become an electrician. Later on, I want to be an electrical contractor and run a business of my own. Besides promising me a secure future, this career opens an avenue for me to return to my community. I want to help others and give them jobs, like myself, who know the true meaning of hard work. Education plays an important role in achieving these goals. Although growing up poor instilled in me the importance of hard work, it also proved that there is no way out of poverty without education. Higher education is the way to a better future, yet the cost of college stands as a very strong barrier. Without financial support, it would be hard, if not impossible, for me to go on to college. That's where the Gomez Family Legacy Scholarship comes in. This scholarship would provide the financial assistance I need to focus on my education without the constant worry of how I'm going to pay for it. This scholarship would give me the opportunity to pursue my dream of becoming an electrician, eventually opening my own electrical contracting business. With a degree, I can help my family and give back to my community in ways I never could have imagined. My dad's sacrifices, his will to provide for us, is what motivates me each and every day. With the right education, I know that I can accomplish my goals and make my dad proud by ending the struggle in our family cycle. The Gomez Family Legacy Scholarship quite literally would make all the difference in my pursuits. This award would give financial freedom toward pursuing a profession that would, if not change my life, at least change others within my community. It is this that truly drives me forward: honoring the sacrifices my dad has made, building a stronger future for myself and family.
      Uniball's Skilled Trades Scholarship
My name is Marcus Leal, and I am in the electrician course because of my deep interest in how electricity powers homes and businesses. From a young age, I was curious about how things worked, often disassembling electronics to understand their inner mechanics. This curiosity grew into a passion for the electrical trade because it combines problem-solving, hands-on work, and a chance to make a real impact on people’s lives. The growing demand for skilled electricians, especially with the rapid technological advancements in energy systems, makes this career path exciting and fulfilling for me. After completing my trade education, my plan is to enter an apprenticeship to gain hands-on experience. I look to become an electrical contractor, with a long-term goal of building my own business. I want to give quality electrical services to residential and commercial clients, making sure that their electrical services are safe, reliable, and affordable. It means a lot to me that I give back to my community by offering affordable services, especially to those who may not be in a position to afford expensive repairs. I also intend to continue my education by keeping up with the latest technologies and safety standards to provide the best possible service and stay ahead in the trade. One of the major challenges that I have faced was growing up with a disabled father after my mother left when I was very young. My father was the only support for me and my three brothers, but his disability check, though helpful, was not sufficient to cover all our needs. Half of his income was taken due to child support, and he still had to support our family. Despite the financial hardships, he worked hard and did whatever it took to ensure that we had food, clothes, and a roof over our heads. I salute his resilience and commitment he shows towards us even when we undergo distress. His example has driven me to push through adversity with the focus on building a better future for my family. I am very eager about becoming an electrician as that would allow me to fuse my love for understanding the logic or system behind something with possibly getting into people's lives. My ultimate goal is to be an electrical contractor one day, making sure that services are affordable and safe, with integrity to the work ethic passed down from my father. Despite all the challenges of growing up, I am determined to follow in my father's footsteps and build a successful career in the skilled trades. I feel that in this direction lies not only the possibility of sustaining my family but also contributing back to the community and helping people the way my father helped us.
      Bob Gana Memorial Scholarship
My name is Marcus Leal, and I am currently a student at Donna High School. I am applying for the Bob Gana Memorial Scholarship because I have a deep passion for learning a skilled trade, specifically becoming an electrician. My aspiration to enroll in a trade school, therefore, is nurtured by the need to make ends meet for my would-be family, serve within my community, and also contribute to an occupation whereby there are chances to solve concrete problems and be productive at the same time. My interest in doing practical work motivated me, and I looked up to Bob Gana's commitment to such skilled trades as well as their mastery. Bob's work in welding and machining, along with his commitment to continuous learning, is something that really resonates with me. His global experiences and the pride he took in his work are inspiring, and I want to follow a similar path of constant growth and professional satisfaction. Bob's story reminds me of the hard work and determination required to build a successful career in the trades. My own inspiration comes from my family, especially from my father, who, despite his disability, worked hard for me and my three brothers. His sacrifices have taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and giving back to those in need. Like Bob, my father took pride in his work and showed me how much of a difference a skilled professional can make. I want to build on this foundation and pursue a trade that not only provides for my family but also allows me to contribute to my community, just as Bob did throughout his career. Attending trade school is the first step in my journey to becoming an electrician. I am excited about the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and gain hands-on knowledge that will prepare me for a successful career. The skills I will acquire will enable me to support my future family, help others in need, and ensure that I can contribute to the well-being of my community. I see this career as one that is not only stable but also an opportunity to make a difference. As I conclude, I want this scholarship because I really value learning a trade which enduces personal fulfillment as well as will definitely enable me to contribute my bit to society. To make Bob Gana's memory proud, my journey in the skilled trade can be built on aspiration and the motive toward higher achievement with continuity at improving in learned work.
Thomas Mashig Foundation Trade School Scholarship
My name is Marcus Leal, and I'm a student at Donna High School. I want to be an electrician to help my family in the future, but I also want to be able to help my community. My most influential person in my life would have to be my dad. He is disabled, yet always managed to work hard to provide for me and my three brothers. My dad supported us after my mom left on his disability check. While it wasn't much, especially with child support taking half of it, he did what he could to make sure we had what we needed. Growing up, I saw my dad make many sacrifices to put food on the table and a roof over our heads. Although we didn't have much, he never complained and always pushed us to do our best. The determination and strength he showed through difficult times taught me the value of hard work, resiliency, and helping others when at all possible. I want to become an electrician because this job will provide me with all the necessary skills and opportunities for maintaining my future family, as my dad did with us. I have always been fascinated by how electrical systems work, and I believe this trade will allow me to apply my hands-on abilities to solve real problems. As an electrician, I want to make sure homes and businesses are safe and help others in need, especially those who can't always afford it. After I graduate from Donna High School, I will go on to attend South Texas College, or STC, for furthering my education. I want to gain the knowledge and expertise to pursue a career in the skilled trades and eventually run my own business. My dad's example taught me that, no matter what, hard work and the willingness to help others truly matters. I wish to give back to my community with the skills learned in the electrical trade: by volunteering my time to those who cannot afford repairs or offering my services at an affordable cost to those families in need. In conclusion, becoming an electrician is about more than just having a job; it’s about honoring my dad’s sacrifices and using my skills to make a positive impact on my future family and community. I am determined to work hard, follow in my dad’s footsteps, and continue his legacy of helping others.
      BIPOC Urban Innovators Scholarship
My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I am a senior at Donna High School in Donna, Texas. The little financial capability at home has bred in me a determination toward seeking a career that would not only stabilize my family but also contribute a lot to my society. My goal is to become an electrician and, eventually, an electrical contractor to participate in and help create urban environments that are more sustainable and efficient. I have a family in which my father is disabled and cannot work, and my mother left me when I was little. As the second-oldest of four brothers, I have seen firsthand financial problems that many families face. Despite these challenges, I’ve always believed that education and hard work can open doors to a better future. The electrical field has always interested me because it’s a trade that offers financial stability, and it plays a crucial role in building and maintaining functional communities. In many underserved urban areas, access to reliable electricity is a basic necessity that is often lacking. In this regard, as an electrician, I would be able to give people in these communities a better way of life by installing safe and efficient electrical systems. There is a huge demand for skilled tradesmen in my area, and I want to be part of the solution to address the infrastructure challenges many urban neighborhoods face. Although I have never worked as an electrician, I have been undertaking electrical courses at school and finding mentorship from professionals in my locality. I learned that being an electrician is not all about technical ability but rather an understanding of the needs of the community and using those skills to help other people. I have always believed in the power and spirit of service, be it volunteering, helping one's family, or helping neighbors with basic tasks. Becoming an electrician gives me the opportunity to serve my community in a meaningful and impactful manner. This has been my great motivation, being of assistance to others in addition to securing a more assuring future. I have a passion for improving people's lives through the application of my skills. Rick Levin Memorial Scholarship
My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I am a senior attending Donna High School in Donna, Texas. Already, these short years of my life have been framed by significant challenges, both at home and in school. My father is disabled and thus cannot work, and my mother left when I was very little. As the second-oldest of four brothers, I’ve often felt the weight of my family’s struggles, and this has deeply influenced my determination to build a better future through education. Growing up, the financial strain on our family has been one of the toughest obstacles I’ve had to face. While my father receives disability benefits, it is often not enough to cover all our needs. I have been seeing every day the problems that were faced by my father, and this has placed a sense of responsibility in me. I've always known that my education is the key to improving our situation, and that belief has driven me to work hard despite the many challenges. The financial stress has at times taken my attention from schoolwork, and at times, I felt overwhelmed with the pressure. But I have never let these struggles defeat me, and instead, I used them to motivate myself to success. One of the biggest ways I have learned how to overcome such obstacles is through my faith. A member of the Children's Choir at Saint Joseph's Church in Donna, the experience has been a source of strength and comfort through my whole life. Singing in the choir showed me how to keep God in my life, while it also taught me the concepts of not giving up and the power of community. It is through faith that I have learned to encounter various trials with hope and resolution in my heart. Whenever things seemed to get a little tough at home, I would always pray for strength, and so my faith helped me to stay focused on my goals and to keep pushing forward. Despite hardships at home, I have always believed in education changing my life. Father, for one, has never been able to work the way he would have liked but never stopped teaching me to do the best I can with what I have. His example of resilience has been a major influence in my life, showing me that hard work, no matter the circumstances, is crucial to overcoming challenges. Even though my father struggles with his disability, he continues to offer his unwavering support and encourages me to pursue my dreams. His strength and commitment to our family have inspired me to keep going, even when things get tough. In addition to my family, involvement with the Children's Choir has reinforced my belief in the importance of community. I have found that through the choir, learning to lean on others when I need them and to offer support when others are in need. This sense of community has taught me that the road to success is always long and, sometimes arduous, but more bearable when one has people believing in him. Perhaps most importantly, the encouragement from my fellow choir members gave me, together with the lessons I learned from my faith, the confidence to pursue my goals. I look forward to attending college and getting a degree in electrical work. I am well focused on becoming an electrician and eventually an electrical contractor since this is a promising field with financial stability and a successful career. It is a career that would not only give me a chance to make a brighter future for myself but also provide me with the means of sustaining my family, that has always been there for me. I want to be able to give back to them and show them that no matter how difficult life can get, it can lead to a brighter future if one just perseveres and educates themselves. This scholarship would be an excellent opportunity to continue with my dreams. Receiving it would also help lessen the financial constraints on my family and therefore make my studies and career goals the only thing I will have to focus on, instead of always feeling anxious about the financial stress we deal with. This scholarship would be an important step toward achieving my dreams and finally becoming that person I have always aspired to be: one who would be able to support her family and leave a positive mark on society. Throughout my life, the adversities I have experienced have, to a great degree, shaped my desire to pursue a higher education. Financial difficulties, my father's disability, and the death of my mother in my childhood have taught me to be resilient, to be patient, and that hard work is a must. Above all, my faith has been my shining star through it all, keeping me hopeful and focused on my goals. I am dedicated to conquering those obstacles and making a brighter future for myself and my family. This scholarship would be one major step toward that future, and I am still willing to work harder to have it turn out the way I want.
      Nabi Nicole Grant Memorial Scholarship
My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I reside in Donna, Texas. Growing up, my family has had to struggle with various situations that have made me the man I am today. My father is disabled and cannot work, while my mom left when I was really young. Therefore, my father is the only provider for our family through disability benefits, which is not always satisfactory in meeting our needs. I have one older brother and two younger brothers, and being the second-oldest son, I deeply feel that it is my responsibility to help my father take care of my siblings and our household. Notwithstanding, I have always sought strength in my faith. My father's health challenges and our financial struggles could have easily led me to despair, but I trust that God has a plan for me. Whenever I face a hardship, I turn to prayer for guidance and peace. My faith has been my anchor in times of uncertainty, helping me keep a positive outlook even when the situation seems bleak. One of the biggest goals I have set is to go to college and receive a degree in electrical working. I want to become an electrician, and later an electrical contractor. This career will make it possible for me to attain financial stability for myself and enable me to provide for my father and brothers. These economic challenges of affording college tuition have remained one of the major concerns in my family, yet I do believe that with hard work and lots of faith, it will see me through these economic challenges to achieve my dreams. While attending Donna High School, I have been struggling to balance my studies and responsibilities at home. I help take care of my little brothers, do household chores, and try as best I can to be of benefit to my family. Sometimes it's hard to maintain, but God gives me the strength through this faith. I want to succeed in school and reach my goal to become an electrician. I have learned that a solid education will play a major role in building a better future, not just for me, but for my entire family. Apart from academics, I am an active participant in the Children's Choir at Saint Joseph's Church in Donna. Singing in the choir has brought me peace and happiness; it has connected me to my faith and to my community. It is also a way for me to serve others and be part of something greater than myself. My faith teaches me the importance of helping others, staying humble, and continuing to serve even in the face of adversity. This scholarship would go a long way in helping me to complete college and pursue my electrician goals. This is because it will reduce some of the burdens that my family bears concerning school fees and cater to my education and training. Grateful for such an opportunity, I would be in a position to secure my future and that of my family, giving back to my family the support that my father has always provided, despite his own struggle. In the end, my faith has been the bedrock of my strength and perseverance. It has helped me face difficult situations with hope and determination, knowing that I am not alone. Through faith, hard work, and commitment to my goals, I am certain that I can overcome any obstacle and make my dream a reality. I look forward to furthering my career path as an electrician and continuing to provide for a better future for my family.
Robert F. Lawson Fund for Careers that Care
My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I'm a senior in high school at Donna High School in Donna, Texas. I was born into and raised in a low-income family and have been brought up through so much: financial burdens, stressors of being a child of a single parent. It is these challenges that have defined me and instilled a drive in me to work with people, especially those in need. While most people think of success in terms of wealth or status, I define success by the positive impact I can make in others' lives. Growing up, I have always wanted to put myself in a position where I can directly help people and make a difference that matters. Over time, I have watched many people in my community fight with one issue after another. All these experiences have influenced me to take up a career in health service and hence be able to offer my support and care to people who need it. I would like to become an electrician because, through the safe and reliable electrical services, I can improve the living conditions of people, hence increasing the quality of life. Through my JROTC involvement, I’ve learned the importance of serving others and the value of leadership, discipline, and teamwork. I’ve also learned that helping others doesn’t always come in grand gestures but can be as simple as showing up when it matters. I want to take that mentality into my career, in which I can make a positive impact on improving infrastructure and the lives of people within my community, most specifically for those who do not have the accessibility they need. In progressing toward becoming an electrician, I want to make sure that I contribute to the greater good through volunteering and assisting those in need within my community. My ultimate goal is to own an electrical contracting business that provides quality service to lower-income neighborhoods, while also offering affordable, high-quality job opportunities to people facing similar struggles to those I’ve encountered. The chance to run a business that provides essential services and gives back to those who have supported me throughout my journey would be incredibly fulfilling. This scholarship would, therefore, be very instrumental in helping me achieve these goals. With financial help, I could afford all the tools and training needed for my desired career as an electrician. It would also help partially to cover some of the costs associated with textbooks and other materials that I need to attend classes and do practical training. I do not want to waste my time on things that do not contribute to the world. Becoming an electrician will not only enable me to offer a highly sought-after skill in my community but also allow me to create opportunities for others and give my neighborhood greater independence. This scholarship provides me with an opportunity to make the first step toward the realization of that dream, and by doing so, I would be furthering the work of Robert F. Lawson, who throughout his life worked with people.
      Lotus Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household with limited financial resources has taught me perseverance. My mother left when I was young, leaving my father to raise me and my three brothers. Despite being disabled, my father worked hard to support us. This experience shaped my character, teaching me how to manage challenges with determination and adaptability. Financial struggles have always been a part of my life, but they also give me the incentive to study further in the skilled trades. I have learned leadership and teamwork through JROTC, while engineering and robotics classes have sparked my interest in technical fields. I want to become an electrician, gain the skills I need, and eventually start my own electrical contracting business. Coming from a low-income background has fueled my ambition to effect positive change in my life and others. Williams Foundation Trailblazer Scholarship
Hello, my name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I am a senior at Donna High School, in Donna, Texas. Growing up in a low-income household with my father-being disabled-has shaped my perspective on life and my ambitions. Despite the challenges that I have faced, I've learned that through hard work, determination, and faith, I can overcome obstacles. Being a BIPOC student in a single-parent home has taught me the value of perseverance and the importance of forging my own path. One of the most impactful experiences I have had so far in high school is my involvement in the JROTC program. I have learned about leadership, teamwork, and how to approach a problem. Leading my peers in drills and activities taught me about discipline and responsibility. Such experiences have taught me values that include hard work, leadership, and service-all of which, I hope to carry forward in my future electrician career. The knowledge I am gaining in JROTC has given me confidence in leading while reminding me that giving to one's community is important. Besides being part of JROTC, I had classes in engineering that have helped me to develop skills in critical thinking, which is absolutely indispensable in the electrical field. I am learning how to approach problems from different angles and find practical solutions, which I know will be useful as I pursue my goal of becoming an electrician. A trade has always fascinated me, and I will be able to use these skills serving my community and earning for my family. My father works hard to take care of our family despite his disability, fixing cars and managing the house. He has shown me the importance of perseverance and taking pride in the work you do. I want to try and follow suit, but most importantly, not only support my family but contribute something good to society. In addition, I will be able to assist low-income families by offering electrical services at an affordable cost and providing jobs as an electrician. This scholarship will help me achieve my goals by affording me the freedom to pursue both a degree and the training in electrical work without holding any financial stress. With the support of the Williams Foundation, I would have every chance to focus on my education and continue with building up the skills needed to be a successful electrician. My dream is to be a trailblazer in my community, showing others that despite the challenges we face, with hard work and dedication we can build a future as we want.

My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I'm a high school senior from Donna, Texas. Faith has always been the central part of my life, enabling me to have the strength to conquer just about anything and to pursue my dreams. Growing up in a single-parent household-my mom left when I was younger-my dad and I had to learn how to go through life together. My father, though disabled, has always strived to provide for our family, and we have gone through many challenges together. Our family has remained very close despite the difficulties; we meet every night and pray together for God's intervention and see us through. These prayers have taught me to trust in God's will concerning me and to press on in life, no matter how trying it may be. As I work towards my goal of becoming an electrician, I know that my faith will play a vital role in helping me succeed. My desire to pursue a career in the electrical trade comes from my love for problem-solving and my desire to help others. I believe that becoming an electrician will provide an opportunity for me to build a secure future, not only for myself but also for my family, in service to my community. I pray to God every day for wisdom, strength, and opportunities that will enable me to achieve this goal. I trust that God will guide me through the challenges ahead, just as He has helped me and my family through past struggles. Faith has helped me stay focused and resilient. When things seem uncertain, when financial struggles make it hard to see a way forward, I know that with God's guidance, all will be okay. This belief has kept me going with my education no matter how many obstacles came along. My faith, I believe, will also keep me on the ground while I work toward a career. Whether it be in the classroom, learning the technical skills needed for my degree, or on the job, I will apply the values instilled in me through my faith, such as hard work, integrity, and service to others. Along with my faith, I am committed to pursuing my goals with ambition and dedication. I have, however, overcome many financial hardships, and I realize the importance of building a brighter future by hard work. My father was a hard-working example to me, and my family gave me love and support so that with faith and determination, I knew I could accomplish my dreams. I am determined to earn my degree and become a skilled electrician. I feel that my faith will continue to guide me in my career, helping me to make wise choices and also to approach each task with integrity and a desire to serve. My faith is something that has always been a strong inspiration for guidance and encouragement throughout my life. I have been able to conquer most challenges through prayer and trust in God's plans. My faith will, therefore, enable me to handle the challenges within this profession. With the help of God, I shall live my dream, support my family, and contribute to my community by making it a better place. My faith has shown me that anything is possible with hard work, perseverance, and trust in God.
      Sammy Ochoa Memorial Scholarship
My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I reside in Donna, Texas, with my father and three siblings. Growing up was really tough, especially since most others would not understand what I had to go through at such a young age. Growing up, my mother left us when I was still young, and I had to be raised solely by my dad. This really shaped me profoundly, though it was something very difficult that taught me resilience, responsibility, and the value of family. My father has been the most significant influence in my life. Despite his disability, which prevents him from holding a regular job, he works around the house hard, fixing the car when it breaks down and ensuring that we have everything we need. His unwavering commitment to our family, even in the face of difficult circumstances, has managed to show me what true dedication looks like. His strength and perseverance have inspired me to push forward in my life, no matter the obstacles. One of the most difficult challenges my family has faced was the emotional impact of my mother leaving. I was young when she left, and it was a confusing and painful experience for all of us. He took both parental roles upon himself and raised us in whatever way he could. It was not an easy task, but his love, dedication, and hard work gave us the blessing of remaining together as a family. Though I miss having my mom around, my father's strength has taught me that family is cemented on love, support, and doing whatever it takes to protect one another. Then, there was financial instability. With a single income, life isn't always easy. But I have learned to be resourceful and independent. As the second oldest of four children, I’ve taken on responsibilities like helping my younger brothers with their schoolwork, doing chores around the house, and supporting my dad in his daily tasks. These experiences have shaped me into a person who approaches challenges with resilience and perseverance. I’ve learned that no matter how tough things get, the most important thing is to keep going and do your best. I have overcome all the hardships and made up my mind to be successful. It is due to these experiences that my passion for the electrical trade has grown even more. I want to become an electrician and then achieve my degree in electrical engineering. I will be joining the trade as an electrician because, while working, I will also be able to support my family. Long-term, I plan to continue my education and finish my degree in electrical engineering that will help me grow into an electrical contractor. This career path will not only help me provide for myself and my family but will also enable me to make a worthwhile contribution to my community with essential services. What I learned from the trials that came my way since I was young-from financial struggles to the emotional pain of my mother leaving-is invaluable. I learned perseverance, hard work, and staying focused on my goals. Like Sammy Ochoa, I am motivated by my faith, my family, and my desire to make a difference. Through hard work and dedication, I know I can make my dreams of becoming an electrician, continuing my education, and creating a better future for myself, my family, and my community a reality.
      Iliana Arie Scholarship
My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I currently reside in Texas with my father and three siblings—two younger brothers and one older. When I was very young, my mother left, and my father has been raising us ever since. Although my dad is unable to work due to his disability, he still works hard every day in other ways. He receives disability checks but has always spent his time fixing the car when it needed repairs, taking care of the house, and making sure we have everything we need. The determination and resourcefulness he showed have taught me many valuable life lessons about responsibility and the importance of doing whatever you can to take care of your family. Growing up in a single-parent household has had a huge impact on my life. My father can't work due to his disability, and this has put a huge strain on our family's finances. Yet even while dealing with those serious concerns, I have always looked up to my father's work ethic and his attitude when times are not going well. Being the second eldest of four children required me to take on lots of tasks, such as helping my dad out around the house and looking out for my brothers. All these experiences are what made me more independent and resilient. I learned that even though life gets hard, I would never give up and would always be able to focus on my goals in life. My intention is to pursue higher education in the course of electrical engineering. I want to become an electrician and thus later work as an electrical contractor. This career will give me not only financial stability but also the opportunity to contribute something good to my community. Growing up in a low-income household, I know how important practical abilities can be in helping people and making their lives easier. I would like to use my education in giving back to my community to help others with basic needs. Outside of school, I participate in volunteer work through St. Joseph's Church, specifically through the children's choir. Through volunteering, I have learned so much about leadership, teamwork, and communication-all helpful skills that will come in handy in my future career. I also participate in the ROTC program at school, where I am learning discipline, responsibility, and problem-solving. These experiences make me grow as a person and ready me for any challenges I have to face later on in my college life and further in my career, too. Growing up in a single-parent household has molded me into someone who is determined to succeed, come what may. Success isn't determined by the challenges that one experiences but in how one responds to them. My father inspired me with his resilience and told me to keep pushing forward and work toward my dreams. This is my promise: I'll keep pursuing my education and eventually use my skills to help others, creating a positive impact. In the future, I hope to be an electrician and an electrical contractor so that my skill could be useful to my family and contribute to my community. I know that with hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn, I can overcome any obstacle and create a brighter future for myself and those around me.
      Nick Lindblad Memorial Scholarship
Music has been a constant in my life, and during my high school years, it has shaped me into who I am today. Music has not only provided an outlet for me to express my personality but also become one avenue through which I can relate with others, connect to people, and be of service in my community. My involvement in the church choir, especially at Saint Joseph's Church, has helped in shaping my perception of music and how much emotional depth it can add to our lives. High school largely made music more than a school extra-curricular affair. The more I plunged into the church choir, the more I realized how music could put people together amidst diverse backgrounds. It has been a way for me to relate to my community, especially through the services we provide and the joy music brings to others. Being in the choir has given me the sense of responsibility and teamwork. Working with others to prepare music for services taught me how important collaboration was in creating something beautiful and meaningful. Beyond the choir, music has been that means through which I let my emotions flow and deal with adversity at different times in my life. From financial struggles in my family to seeing a disabled father, I often felt life choking me. Music, especially playing my guitar or singing, was a way of releasing stress and finding some peace. It was a personal outlet where I would come and elaborate on my feelings, helping me to stay grounded. I have also learned leadership and discipline through music. Well, being in the choir and organizing songs to be sung for services made me step up and take charge of others to assist in developing skills that will serve me later on in life. Music has taught me not just how to play or sing but how to listen, collaborate, and inspire others. These lessons are invaluable as I look forward to using music in my future endeavors. Music has also fostered my ability to empathize with others. The emotions that songs convey, whether joyful or sad, have deepened my understanding of people’s experiences and perspectives. I’ve learned that music is a universal language that transcends barriers, creating connections and building understanding. It’s an experience that unites us in ways words cannot. In my high school years, music has been a never-ending drive, inspiration, and way of communication. It taught me so much about life and influenced my personality. Later in life, I know that I will carry with myself the lessons music has taught me and further use it as a medium of expression and connecting with other people.

Growing up in a low-income household with a disabled father, I’ve learned that resilience and determination are crucial in overcoming adversity. My father relies on his disability check to support our family, and with three younger brothers to care for, I’ve stepped up in many ways to help at home. These challenges have motivated me to pursue a stable career that not only supports my family but also benefits my community. I intend to use my education to become an electrician and later an electrical contractor. What really impresses me about the career is the fact that it's hands-on and an opportunity to serve people in improving safety and efficiency. Additionally, I want to grow my business over time and create jobs for others in my community, especially the youth, many who do not understand skilled trades provide a fulfilling and financially rewarding career path. Education will give me the tools to build a better future, not just for my family but for others who face similar challenges. Along with my aspiration for a career in the trade, I am a computer-certified professional in Adobe Illustrator, adding to my problem-solving and creative capabilities. This skill has been helpful in ways that have assisted me in looking at problems from different angles, and I am excited about using it to find creative solutions in my future career. Whether it is designing marketing materials for my future business or communicating technical ideas through graphics, my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator will enable me to bring a creative element into my projects. The other significant experience in my life has been my participation in the church choir at Saint Joseph's. Singing in this choir taught me the value of teamwork, discipline, and service to others. I have been able to give something back to my community through music, and the sense of belonging or connectedness that I have through the choir has been a source of strength. It has helped me learn to be a leader, as often I have been responsible for organizing and leading the music for services. Both Adobe Illustrator certification and experience in the church choir have shaped my personality to date. The experiences have not only provided me with such essential skills but also built a commitment to serving others even deeper. I will use my education and the lessons learned to make a positive impact in my community and assist those around me in realizing their potential. Whereas overcoming adversity continues to be part of my life, the hurdles challenge me to strive to succeed even more. My family and I have faced quite a number of challenges, but through hard work, we've always managed to hold on and support each other. I am determined to use my education and skills to create a better future for my family and to make a lasting, positive impact on the world.
      F.E. Foundation Scholarship
I plan to make a positive impact on the world through my career as an electrician and eventually as an electrical contractor. I believe that working in the trades will allow me to directly improve the lives of others by making homes and businesses safer, more energy-efficient, and more functional. Furthermore, I intend to mentor new generations from my locality, especially those from the background that I have had-the opportunity to unlock entry points into skilled trades. I will contribute to creating jobs and reliable services while supporting the growth of local businesses through the economic development and success of my community. My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I am a senior at Donna High School in Texas. I was of low-income family origin with a disabled father who was unable to work and four children to take care of. My father relies on his disability check to support us, and I have taken the role of leadership in our house to help my dad run the housework and look after my three little brothers, Julian, Joey, and Myles. As my mother is not with us and hasn't been for many years now, it has always been me and my dad working together to keep our family strong and united. Coming from a family that struggled to make ends meet taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and determination. I have been diligent in keeping my GPA at 3.0 high school while juggling my college work with these responsibilities at home. As for me, I believe creating a better future for my family is what would drive and motivate me as I pursue a career in electrical engineering. This career will allow me not only to provide financially for my family but also endow me with the tools to help others by improving the infrastructure around us. Also, outside my academic pursuits, I am engaged in several extracurricular activities which have molded my personality. I participate in ROTC, wherein I have been working on achieving the rank of Corporal. Through ROTC, I learned leadership, discipline, and teamwork, which are very essential when building my career and, eventually, my own business. Besides, I play the guitar at my church, Saint Joseph's, and, through this, I give my community service in a meaningful way. I am passionate about using those skills I gain through my education and career to help others, and this scholarship is going to be a huge stepping stone in the making. With financial support, I will have the opportunity to pursue my goals without burdening myself with overwhelming debt, and I will be able to give much-needed focus to my studies and my future career. I would make a positive difference in the world through my work and my abilities as an electrician, but also contribute to helping people around me to reach their actual potential.
      Simon Strong Scholarship
My full name is Marcus Anthony Leal. I was a senior this past year at Donna High School. I live with my family in a low-income household; my father, who cannot work due to his disability, has to rely on a check given each month in order for my family to get by. Being raised with three younger brothers—Julian, Joey, and Myles—made me value family and responsibility very much. My father has been the sole caretaker of our house since my mother left when I was quite young. Therefore, it often falls on me to help take care of my brothers and assist with household tasks. Perhaps one of the toughest facets of high school has been balancing out the work with family responsibilities. I often help my father with day-to-day chores around the house, assist my brothers with their homework assignments, and keep them current on homework assignments. These added responsibilities have actually taught me to manage my time effectively. It has not all been easy-there have been many nights when, after helping out at home, I stayed up late to finish my homework-but through these experiences, I learned the importance of hard work, discipline, and perseverance. They have also made me more determined to pursue my career goals, which include becoming an electrician and eventually opening my own electrical contracting business. I have always been fascinated by how things work, and electrical work allows me to use my problem-solving skills in a practical way. My dream is to learn the trade, gain hands-on experience, and eventually be in a position to not only support my family but also contribute to my community. I feel that the skills I will learn as an electrician can truly make a difference, whether it's helping out local businesses with electrical work or even mentoring young people who want to learn a trade. Apart from academics and career goals, I have been quite active in the ROTC program offered by my school. Currently, I am working to achieve the rank of Corporal. This has helped me develop many rich leadership and team-building disciplines. The ROTC has taught me how to take responsibility, handle leadership, and act as an example at school and at home. These qualities will help me in the future as I pursue a career and keep on helping my family. I also attend my church, Saint Joseph's, where I serve by playing guitar for the congregation. This has allowed me to connect further with my faith and give back to my community through playing music in church. Volunteering at church has given me an insight into my life's purpose and has furthered my commitment to service. It has taught me that even small ways of giving back to others can last for a lifetime and impact those around you. The adversity I have experienced in my life has molded me into one who is resilient, determined, and committed to a life of positive change. If I can advise another individual who has been placed in these same circumstances, I would say, never give up. At times, situations may seem insurmountable, yet with diligence and determination, absolutely anything can be accomplished. The road may be rough, but with persistence, success is the result. This scholarship would assist with providing the financial support I will need in continuing my education and pursuing a career as an electrician. I am committed to using the lessons I have learned from my experiences to make a better future for myself, my family, and my community.

My name is Marcus Anthony Leal, and I am a senior at Donna High School. Coming from a very low-income family, I have learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and resourcefulness. My mother left when I was young, and my father, who is disabled, has been the sole provider for our family ever since. Despite his physical challenges, my father works tirelessly to support us, which has instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and determination. I’ve always stayed focused on creating a better future for myself and my community, and my goal is to become an electrician and eventually an electrical contractor, a career that combines my love for hands-on work and my desire to make a lasting impact. Growing up with limited resources and having to work through the challenges presented by my father's disability have taught me to approach problems creatively and in a solution-oriented manner. This fascination with working with my hands led me to get interested in electrical work. As an electrical contractor, I will be able to take care of my family and bring a change into other people's lives. On the one hand, I have been able to acquire, together with academic and career aspirations, many life skills as a participant of extracurricular activities. I am also an active ROTC member in my school and am keenly learning different aspects-leadership, discipline, and teamwork. Presently, I am pursuing the rank of a Corporal and take pride in leading by example and supporting my colleagues back. It has taught me how to work under pressure, make decisions, and inspire others-skills that I believe are indispensable in any career, especially in the field of electrical work. In addition, I play guitar for my church, Saint Joseph's, which has deepened my spiritual life and instilled in me a sense of community and service. I find my way of giving back by playing music for the congregation, and it is something I am deeply passionate about. These experiences have shaped who I am today and fueled my desire to pursue a career that blends technical skills with the opportunity to give back to the community. A Security Insurance Agency Scholarship
Of course, my neighbor's house got struck by lightning during a violent storm, and much of their home was consumed by the ensuing fire. Happily, they were covered by homeowners' insurance, enabling them to get back on their feet with a minimum amount of crushing debt. Stories like these point out how very important insurance is to our lives. In today's world, insurance and insurance agencies surround us, often unseen, cushioning shocks to our economic well-being, guiding, and reassuring us against the uncertainties of life. The good that insurance can bring forth is unmistakable. Health insurance covers medical bills, homeowners' insurance protects against natural disasters, and auto insurance covers accidents. All these forms of insurance enable people to handle certain risks which would have substantially changed their lives. The insurance firms act like shock absorbers in the lives of people, cushioning them from some happenings beyond their control. This security indeed provides individual protection but simultaneously gives people economic stability to take risks, such as buying homes or starting businesses, that help the community grow. Insurance agencies are important facilitators in the bringing of required covers to the people. They guide clients through the complexities in insurance policies, interpreting among other things, the terms, exclusions, and options that might otherwise sound Greek. Agencies seem more like advocates in finding affordable yet comprehensive plans to suit the needs of each individual client. This level of service is truly invaluable, given the number of individuals who find navigating insurance policies altogether intimidating. Agencies make access to and the approach toward this more 'friendly'. Despite these advantages, there is also a downside to insurance: it comes with mostly very high premiums, most especially for states that suffer from frequent natural disasters. People are finding insurance to be no longer affordable; this defeats the very purpose of having a financial shield. The claims to be made from insurance companies could be infuriating: sometimes, the policy conditions are so stringent, or either the claims get rejected or long-drawn, enhancing unnecessary anxiety for people who need timely payouts to recover from the losses. Insurance and insurance agencies protect people against the financial blows of life's unexpected challenges, enabling them to project peace of mind while facing those risks and recovering from loss. While there might be such challenges in cost and processing of claims, insurance benefits way above those drawbacks, making them an indispensable way of living in today's world.
ADHDAdvisor's Mental Health Advocate Scholarship for Health Students
Throughout my life, I have come to realize the profound importance of being there for others during their struggles with mental health. I’ve often found myself providing support to friends and loved ones, including my girlfriend, who have needed someone to lean on. These experiences have shown me how impactful a listening ear and a compassionate heart can be in times of need. I remember a time when a close friend was feeling overwhelmed by personal issues. I made it a priority to reach out and check in regularly, offering a safe space for him to express his feelings without judgment. Simply being there to listen made a significant difference for him. He often expressed how comforting it was to talk openly about his struggles, and it reinforced my belief in the power of emotional support. In addition to offering support to friends, I also learned the importance of sharing my own experiences and feelings. By being open about my challenges, I created an atmosphere of trust, encouraging others to do the same. This reciprocal exchange not only strengthened our relationships but also highlighted the collective nature of mental well-being—how we can lift each other up during difficult times. As I look to the future, I plan to pursue a career in healthcare, with a focus on mental health advocacy. My studies will provide me with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in this field. I aspire to create an environment where individuals feel safe to seek help and openly discuss their mental health challenges. In my future practice, I envision developing support groups and workshops that promote mental health awareness and provide resources for those in need. I believe that fostering an atmosphere of empathy and understanding is crucial in helping individuals prioritize their mental well-being. In conclusion, my commitment to supporting others in their mental health journeys is a fundamental part of who I am. By being there for my friends and loved ones, I have witnessed the positive impact of emotional support. As I embark on my journey in healthcare, I am eager to expand this support on a larger scale, advocating for mental well-being and helping others feel empowered to seek help when they need it most.
      Julie Holloway Bryant Memorial Scholarship
A high school senior, born into a Spanish-speaking family, I struggle day in and day out with being bilingual among a sea of English speakers. It has, and continues to be, very challenging, but it has opened doors in my life that I never thought existed, in addition to defining me as a person. My interest in languages and cultures plays a great role in my academic curiosity and aspirations for the career I will embark on later. Having grown up from a bilingual background, I always knew language as a means of bonding. My parents spoke interchangeably in Spanish and English, either depending on the context of a situation or who the audience was. This created a very culturally enriched environment at home but also served to be a challenge for me once I finally went to school. I initially had a hard time keeping pace with my fellows in the beginning, particularly in those subjects which demanded a sound usage of the English language. I recall feeling frustrated with group discussions because my ideas were hindered by my reluctance to express them in a second language. These challenges pushed me to work harder and build confidence with communication. One of the most difficult challenges was serving as a translator for my family. Whether helping my parents communicate with teachers and school administrators or translating critical documents, I often found myself in a position that required not only language ability but also a degree of cultural knowledge. The experience instilled in me responsibility and sensitivity, yet simultaneously it was a stressor: I had the burden of making sure my family knew what was going on and did what was best, while simultaneously trying to be successful in school myself. These pressures, however, made this role develop my language skills and deepen my appreciation for the subtleties of both languages. Equally important are the advantages of being bilingual. The knowledge of Spanish expanded my cultural identity and provided me with the opportunity to speak with more people. I have participated in different cultural events and volunteered with organizations that serve the needs of Spanish-speaking populations. These experiences have only reinforced my need to become an advocate for the diversified communities and to facilitate inclusivity. This advantage of being bilingual has also made me a high candidate in both academic and professional spheres. I could consider projects that also involved language, and I am very eager to use my bilingual advantages in my future career. After graduation, I want to major in international relations with a special emphasis on diplomatic and cross-cultural communication. I feel that my background and knowledge of several languages will facilitate working through various perspectives and enable me to facilitate dialogues across cultures. Among those organizations, the ones that interest me most have a social justice and community involvement mission on an international level. I aspire to help bridge gaps within communities and be an advocate for policies reflecting the needs of underrepresented populations. The bottom line of my life as a bilingual has to do with the construction of my identity and the development of my aspirations. Though there was a series of challenges attending the whole life in handling the barriers of language, I have received rewards concerning cultural connection and understanding. Overall, books have guided my life in the nurturing of values, aspirations, and perspectives of the world around me. Novels and non-fiction alike have comforting pages that have introduced new ways of thinking and ideas that reflect experiences within me since childhood. There is, however, one book that has really had a profound impact on me: "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. Its themes of empathy, justice, and moral courage fanned the flame of my social justice passion and sealed the seal on my desire to make a change in my community. Reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" opened my eyes to the complexities of human behavior and the importance of standing up for what is right, even in adversity. Atticus Finch's conscience of the story made me realize that strength was all about understanding and compassion; his sheer dedication to justice had inspired me into standing for others and made me feel responsible to do something good in society. This realization, therefore, further pressed me into doing more voluntary activities, especially those that deal with literacy programs and other educational opportunities for less fortunate children. Through volunteering, I have learned just how strong a tool reading can be. I've seen the way books can spark curiosity and be a means of solace for young minds who have been dealing with tough situations. Seeing it firsthand has only fortified my resolve to become a librarian myself: teaching the love of reading in others through providing a place where people welcome each other, explore, and learn. Another influential novel that inspired my aspirations is a book entitled "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. This novel emphasizes the importance of pursuing one's dream and listening to one's heart. It really taught me that the path taken toward fulfilling my desires is just as important as the reward itself. This has really encouraged me to invest myself deep in activities that I love, such as writing, volunteering, or even helping in community projects. I now know my dreams of making a difference can come in many different forms, and to this day, I am committed to exploring every avenue available to me. This has led me to continue higher education in library science as I prepare for college. I feel that becoming a librarian will allow me to combine my love for books with my desire to support and empower others. A future in which I can create programs to engender literacy, can organize and host community events around reading, and make sure that each child is afforded an opportunity to reach their greatest potential with the resources needed for them. As I want to instill a love for reading, the dreams will be big, indeed, and the pursuit of all interests pursued by the next generation-taught by the characters and lessons given in the books I have read. It was with these novels that me goals and aspirations started to take shape. They helped me understand empathy and fair play, but more importantly, to follow my dreams. I feel that by becoming a librarian I am following in Barbara's footsteps-not because she is a librarian, but because she loves books and with them helps other people, just as I would like to. I am looking forward to the future, as I will continue to share with others the power of transformation through literature and create positive change within my community.
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Growing up with my father in a single-parent home set the tone for me and instilled in me a different prospective on life and goals for my future. My father made it a point to let my brothers and me know just how important it was to be great at whatever it was we chose to do in life. He even went as far as to mention that he wanted us to do those things he felt he could have done. He faced many obstacles yet remained committed to us and taught us about hard work and education. My dad did not have an easy life. After Mom left, looking for a life that did not include family responsibilities and financial burdens, my dad was left to raise us alone. He gets a disability check, which simply means our finances have been slim. Yet, instead of making this an excuse, he fought hard for us, encouraging us to be the best in school and to continue to pursue our dreams. His persistence taught me the spirit of not giving up easily and the realization that I need to maximize every opportunity that comes my way. Growing up with my father instilled in me a sense of responsibility. I have seen him work tirelessly just to provide for us with almost very limited resources. And his concern for our education drove me to always be focused on my studies. I think now is time when I break this vicious circle and build a good future for my family and myself. I treat my education as that tool of raising myself and giving back to those in need who can get better at such challenges. I envision applying my talents in engineering and technology for positive change. Basically, I develop solutions that could help underserved communities take advantage of resources that many of us don't even think twice about. For example, I dream about working on projects related to renewable energy that develop affordable energy solutions, which would empower poor families to improve their lifestyle. I also want to be able to mentor students who have not had the same encouragement given unto me. My father has always been my biggest supporter, and he pushed me to do the best that I can. This is what I aspire to do with others in return. I would hope in aspiring to develop programs that will encourage students from single-parent families to pursue a STEM education and perhaps giving them that needed mentorship and guidance they require in order for them to succeed. I want them to know that their given circumstances define nothing about their potential. Yes, the road ahead will be hard to see, but I'm committed to making a difference. The experiences I've had growing up with my dad have taught me hard work, empathy, and community. It's these lessons that ground my ambitions and inspire me to build a future in which I might lift others up the same way my dad has lifted me up. In brief, I was raised by my father in a single-parent family, which has greatly shaped my perspective and future goals in life. His commitment to our family and unwavering support have challenged me to pursue a career of service and making a difference. I am committed to using my skills in engineering and technology to empower others and create sustainable solutions that improve lives. I am excited about all the opportunities to come along the way in this journey and look forward to a lifetime of positive contributions to my community and beyond.

The intersection of leadership and science forms the very bedrock upon which great changes to the betterment of humankind stand. Whereas science avails the necessary knowledge and tools to understand complex problems, leadership marshals those resources toward meaningful solutions. Together, they represent a powerful synergy that can be brought to bear on selected intractable challenges of our time. Leadership plays a crucial role in translating scientific research into active change. It is the influential leader who supports evidence-based policies and leads communities in accepting new practices. Such is the case, for example, with the challenge of climate change, which requires modern statesmen to act and involve different spheres in that action. With sustainability-a priority for any truly responsible leadership-one can initiate projects connected with renewable energy, minimal waste, and care for the environment. They galvanize public support and guide legislative action to ensure that scientific discoveries are translated into practical applications. In addition, leadership fosters interdisciplinary collaborations. Most scientific breakthroughs are the culmination of contributions by several disciplines that bind together to achieve that particular finding. For example, engineering, biology, and computer sciences coming together led to huge leaps in biotechnology, such as the CRISPR technique, that could highly bring about changes in the face of medicine and agriculture. A leader who nurtures collaboration breeds an environment that favors creativity and innovation to happen and eventually shape our future in radical ways. But education doesn't stop at that one dynamic. Great leadership in science and technology breeds the next generation of thinkers, hence fostering inclusive and supportive environments for ideation to take place. This investment in STEM education with mentorship opportunities plays a significant role in preparing these young people for challenges that lie ahead within the near future. Empowerment of students by their leaders through evoking curiosity forms a continuous pipeline of innovative problem-solvers to handle the intricacies of an ever-changing world. However, leadership and science are an uneasy relationship. Misinformation serves to undermine scientific progress when cold, hard facts are conveyed in the age of social media. Leaders in society must make scientific literacy a priority; trust in expertise needs to be regained through effective conversation. He will be dealing with an enabling atmosphere that shows interest in scientific insight and integrates it into decision-making by showing concern of the public and misconceptions. Conclusion: The joining of leadership to science will build a sustainable and just future. Good leadership ensures that scientific discoveries are translated into actionable solutions that propel society forward. Leaders encourage collaboration, provide opportunities for education, and pave the way through difficult times, allowing people to harness science in support of humankind. With a vision to the future, it is easy to see how this intersection of leadership and science will define the trajectory in the way that our collective future should be instigated for innovative solutions toward a healthy planet.

Standing in my kitchen and sorting through this week's grocery haul, I couldn't help but think about how my choices have changed over the years. I remember those times when convenience outgained sustainability, as I would pick up anything wrapped in plastic without further thought afterthought. Today, however, my intentional choices to live sustainably guide my daily life and remind me of my responsibility toward the planet and its future. One of the most influential changes I have ever made is switching to plant-based nutrition. It wasn't only for personal health; it was a decision taken on behalf of environmental care. Animal food and dairy industry belongs to one of the most polluting industries, which also contribute to greenhouse gases, deforestation, and water intake. Instead, it focuses more on fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes to reduce my carbon footprint and support much more sustainable means of agriculture. This choice has exposed me to the great variety in plant-based cooking, teaching me new flavors while being kinder to Earth. Besides my eating habits, I'm also monitoring my consumption habits. I minimize waste production by favoring reusable products over disposable ones. Examples of such are always having a stainless steel water bottle, a few reusable shopping bags, and cloth produce bags on me. Whenever I go to the grocery store, I try not to buy items that are in too much packaging but instead opt for bulk bins or products contained within glass or cardboard. This change not only minimizes the amount of waste, but also makes me more conscious of the things I bring into my home. Another area of my life where I make conscious decisions to be sustainable involves transportation. I walk, bike, or use public transit anytime it is feasible. If a day requires driving, then I can carpool with friends or family. This cuts down on the number of cars on the road and has even made traveling more friendly. Further to this, I am involved in my local community to promote sustainability. I volunteer at a community garden where we grow organic fruits and vegetables, educating people on sustainable living. This keeps me in touch with people who feel as strongly about the protection of our environment as I do, and it reminds me that unity can bring change. It is important to be carbon neutral, not only because of the welfare of Earth but for a secured future for humanity and the coming generations. Indeed, climate change is a serious threat, causing extreme weather conditions, rising sea levels, and loss of biodiversity. Every little act adds up to a greater revolutionary sustainable movement. Moreover, with me being conscious about my choices, I set an example for others to think about the changes they can make towards helping on the journey to a healthier planet. Conclusion: Deliberate decisions I have made to contribute to the lives of sustainability-that is, taking a plant-based diet, reduction of waste, use of eco-friendly transportation, and community engagement-are representative of my commitment to reducing carbon footprint. These activities are very important in taming the monster of climate change and ensuring that a sustainable future awaits our planet. I do this with the hope in my heart that my efforts, however minute they may be, would inspire others likewise to make necessary changes in life to eventually bring a snowball effect for the betterment of all of us. Continuing further in life to live sustainably, we take on our responsibility to Earth and look after it for future generations.
Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship
Mental health has become a central part of my life, especially after a tough junior year when both school and home life felt overwhelming. Juggling a heavy academic load while dealing with stress at home made me realize just how important it is to take care of my mental well-being, not just to manage stress, but also to thrive both in school and in my personal life. During that difficult time, I often felt anxious and worn out, struggling to stay motivated and keep my focus. Recognizing that I needed to take action, I reached out to my school counselor and started practicing mindfulness techniques. These steps helped me find my balance again and handle stress in a much healthier way. My personal experience sparked a desire to become an advocate for mental health within my community. As a volunteer at Saint Joseph Church, where I'm part of the youth choir, I contribute to a welcoming and supportive environment for the other members. Music has always been a source of comfort for me, and I’ve witnessed how it can lift the spirits of those around me too. In the choir, I try to help create a space where everyone can express themselves and feel connected through the music we share. I often take on leadership roles during rehearsals, encouraging my peers and fostering a sense of teamwork and support. This shared space offers a break from daily pressures and promotes a positive mindset, especially for the younger members dealing with their own challenges. Additionally, I use my involvement in the choir to raise awareness about mental health within our church. I share helpful resources and try to create open conversations about well-being during our gatherings. By bringing mental health awareness into our activities, I hope to build a more supportive and compassionate community. Volunteering with the youth choir has deepened my belief in the strength of community support and how powerful a nurturing environment can be for mental well-being. The connections we build and the relief we find through music create a sense of belonging that eases the stress of everyday life. In the end, the challenges I faced during my junior year highlighted the importance of mental health, inspiring me to promote it in ways that matter. Through my work with the Saint Joseph Church youth choir, I help foster a community where mental well-being is valued, and I’m committed to supporting others as they navigate their own journeys.
