    William A. Lewis Scholarship
One obstacle that I have had to overcome in pursuit of higher education is financial hardship. As someone who comes from a low-income background, paying for college has always been a challenge for me. Despite working hard and applying for financial aid, I still found myself struggling to cover the cost of tuition and other expenses. It was a difficult and stressful experience, and at times I wasn't sure if I would be able to continue my education. Fortunately, I was able to overcome this obstacle with the help of a few key people. The first person who helped me was my high school guidance counselor. She was always available to answer my questions and offer advice on how to apply for financial aid and scholarships. She even helped me apply for grants and loans that I may not have otherwise known about. Another person who helped me overcome this obstacle was my college financial aid office. The staff there were incredibly helpful and understanding, and they worked with me to come up with a payment plan that was feasible for my financial situation. They also provided information on additional resources, such as work-study programs and on-campus jobs, that could help me cover the cost of my education. Finally, my family and friends were also a great source of support and encouragement as I navigated the challenges of paying for college. They offered emotional and financial support whenever I needed it, and their encouragement kept me motivated to keep going despite the difficulties I faced. Overcoming this obstacle has been a long and difficult process, but I am grateful for the help and support of those around me. Their guidance and encouragement have been invaluable, and I know that I wouldn't have been able to succeed without them. In addition to the financial challenge, I have also had to overcome other obstacles in pursuit of higher education. For example, I have had to balance my studies with work and other responsibilities, and I have had to learn how to manage my time and stay organized. However, by seeking help and support when I needed it, I have been able to overcome these challenges as well. In conclusion, financial hardship has been a major obstacle that I have had to overcome in pursuit of higher education. However, with the help of my high school guidance counselor, the college financial aid office, and my loved ones, I have been able to overcome this obstacle and continue my education. I am grateful for the support and guidance of these individuals, and I know that I wouldn't have been able to succeed without them.

One way I plan to inspire youth in my career is by being a role model and mentor. I know firsthand how important it is to have someone to look up to and seek guidance from as you navigate your career path. By being available to answer questions, offer advice, and provide support, I hope to be a source of inspiration for young people who are interested in computer science. Another way I plan to inspire youth is by sharing my passion for technology with them. I believe that one of the most powerful ways to inspire someone is to show them how exciting and rewarding a particular field can be. By sharing my enthusiasm for computer science and all of the amazing things it can do, I hope to spark the same excitement in others. I also plan to inspire youth by being involved in outreach and education programs that target young people. By participating in these programs, I can share my knowledge and experience with young people who may not have had the opportunity to learn about computer science otherwise. This can be especially important for those who come from underserved communities, as it can help to level the playing field and provide more opportunities for all. Finally, I plan to inspire youth by being a leader in the computer science community. By setting a good example and working to make the field more inclusive and diverse, I hope to encourage young people to follow in my footsteps and make their own mark in the world of technology. In summary, my goal is to inspire the youth in my career by being a role model, sharing my passion for computer science, participating in outreach and education programs, and leading by example in the tech community. By doing these things, I hope to help the next generation of young people see the limitless potential of computer science and the positive impact it can have on the world.

The app that has influenced me to dive deeper into the tech space is Duolingo. Duolingo is a language learning app that gamifies the learning process, making it fun and engaging. As someone who has always been interested in language learning, Duolingo has provided a convenient and enjoyable platform for me to expand my linguistic abilities. One thing I would change or do to impact the tech industry is to prioritize accessibility and inclusivity in the design and development process. Too often, technology is created with a narrow user base in mind, and this can lead to exclusion for those with disabilities or marginalized identities. By prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity from the start, we can ensure that technology is truly for everyone. This includes things like designing interfaces that are easy to navigate for users with visual impairments, or building in assistive technology for those with mobility impairments. In addition to accessibility and inclusivity, I would also like to see more emphasis placed on ethical considerations in the tech industry. With the rapid pace of technological advancement, it is important that we take the time to carefully consider the potential consequences of our actions. This includes things like the impact on privacy and data security, as well as the potential societal consequences of certain technologies. Do I think the tech industry has a social and moral obligation to be inclusive to all consumers? Absolutely. Technology has become such an integral part of our lives, and it is important that everyone has the opportunity to access and utilize it. This is especially true in today's world, where technology is often necessary for things like education, employment, and communication. Inclusivity also allows for a broader range of perspectives and experiences to be represented in the development of technology, leading to more innovative and effective solutions. Furthermore, the tech industry has the power to shape the world in which we live, and it is important that this power is wielded responsibly and with consideration for all members of society. By being inclusive and ethical in our practices, we can ensure that technology is used to improve the lives of people around the world, rather than causing harm or exacerbating existing inequalities. In conclusion, Duolingo has been a major influence on my interest in the tech industry. In order to truly make an impact, I believe it is important to prioritize accessibility, inclusivity, and ethical considerations in the design and development process. The tech industry has a social and moral obligation to be inclusive to all consumers, and by fulfilling this obligation we can use technology to create a better world for everyone.

I would like to introduce myself; my name is Marcos A. Martinez, and I am the proud son of Hispanic parents. My parents were born in a Spanish-speaking nation and emigrated to the United States when I was a little child. As a result of their upbringing, I have a deep appreciation for my cultural history. My upbringing in a Hispanic family has had a significant influence on the lens through which I see the world. My Hispanic heritage has provided me with a strong sense of respect for the significance of both family and community, which is one of the most significant ways in which it has shaped the way I see the world. My parents instilled in me the necessity of keeping strong relationships with my relatives and supporting one another through both happy and difficult times. This is because, in many Hispanic cultures, the family is considered to be the most important institution. This has not only made me a more compassionate and supportive person, but it has also assisted me in developing solid and long-lasting connections with the individuals who are a part of my life. One further manner in which my Hispanic heritage has influenced the way I see the world is by instilling in me a profound respect for the richness and variety of Hispanic culture. This has been one of the most significant ways in which my heritage has shaped my worldview. As I was growing up, I was exposed to a diverse array of cultural practices and norms, ranging from musical and dance expressions to culinary and linguistic expressions. My mind has been opened up and my curiosity has been piqued as a result of this experience, which has given me a deeper appreciation for the vibrant and colorful world of Hispanic culture. Additionally, this has made me more curious about the diversity of experiences and perspectives that exist in the world. Last but not least, having Hispanic ancestry has instilled in me a strong dedication to issues of social justice and equality. My parents instilled in me the significance of speaking up for what is right and working for a better society. Many Hispanic cultures put a great focus on justice and equality. My parents also taught me the necessity of standing up for what is right. This experience has not only made me a more empathetic and socially aware person, but it has also motivated me to strive for the creation of a society that is more fair and equal. In a nutshell, the fact that I come from a Hispanic household has had a significant influence on the way I see the wider world. It has instilled in me a passion for Hispanic culture and a dedication to the pursuit of social justice and equality. It has also given me a profound respect for the importance of one's family and community. These principles have played a significant role in determining who I am now and in directing the paths I have taken throughout my life.
Cybersecurity & The Latinx Community Scholarship
My name is Marcos A. Martinez, and I have decided to get a degree in cybersecurity because I have always had a deep appreciation for technology and a keen interest in the myriad of ways in which it can be put to use to safeguard individuals and organizations from potential danger. Because the world is becoming more dependent on technology, the risk of cyberattacks is growing. As a result, cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly vital topic. I am certain that obtaining a degree in cybersecurity will provide me with the education and training necessary to make a significant contribution to this industry once I enter it. After I finish my degree, I want to continue my education in a couple of other tracks before settling on a career path. To begin, I would want to work in the field of cybersecurity, either as an analyst or a consultant, assisting companies and organizations in locating and addressing any flaws in their computer systems. In this position, I would be responsible for evaluating the state of cybersecurity across various networks and offering suggestions on how it may be improved based on my understanding of current best practices and technological advancements in the field of cybersecurity. Over the course of a longer period of time, one of my goals is to further my education by earning a master's degree in cybersecurity or an area closely linked to it. I feel that doing so would not only make it possible for me to acquire even more specific knowledge and abilities, but it would also make it possible for me to pursue even more possibilities within the industry. My other area of interest in regard to the use of my degree in cybersecurity is the possibility of utilizing it to assist in protecting persons from dangers that may be found online, such as identity theft and cyberbullying. I think it is crucial for individuals to be aware of the potential dangers they encounter while using the internet and to take measures to safeguard not only themselves but also their families from these dangers. I would want to put my expertise and experience to use by teaching others about cybersecurity and providing them with the information, tools, and resources they need to be secure while using the internet. In general, I could not be more thrilled to be embarking on this journey to get a degree in cybersecurity, and I can not wait to put what I learn in school to work to make the world a better place. I am excited to make a contribution to the expansion and development of this subject because I feel that it plays an important role in ensuring the safety and security of both people and enterprises. Whether I am working as a cybersecurity analyst, seeking more education, or assisting in the education of the general public about online risks, I am dedicated to putting my knowledge and talents to use in order to help make the world a safer and more secure place.
