This is such an interesting question, and honestly, something I am living and navigating every single day. My student loan debt comes from a lifelong dream of mine: becoming a teacher. Ever since I was a little girl, this has been my only plan, my only vision for myself. I never wavered. I never imagined doing anything else. Teaching was not just a career choice for me—it was a calling, a purpose, something written into who I am. What I didn’t realize back then was how expensive that dream would become. Classes and more classes. Internships. Credential programs. More classes. State tests. More requirements. More certifications. And then, if I wanted to move up on the pay scale? More classes. If I wanted a raise? More classes. If I wanted to grow professionally? More classes. It truly feels like a never-ending pool of coursework, tuition, fees, and expectations that never seem to slow down. But here’s the thing: I kept going. Because this is my dream. Every single day, I get to walk into a classroom and live what I once imagined as a little girl. I get to inspire. I get to encourage. I get to advocate. I get to love on kids who need it. I get to be someone they can trust. I get to help shape futures. I get to make a difference, even when it’s hard, even when I’m tired, even when the system feels overwhelming and uncertain. That is priceless to me. Yes, the dream came with a price. And yes, the aftermath is financial. Student loans are real. They are heavy. They follow you. They don’t disappear when you graduate. They sit with you as you build a life, raise a family, and juggle responsibilities, dreams, and daily sacrifices. So, how do I pay for them? I work. Every day. I show up. I give my best. I keep pushing. I stay committed. The bills are the consequence of choosing to live my dream. Are they frustrating sometimes? Absolutely. Are they overwhelming at times? Yes. Would I change my path? No. Because I chose purpose over ease. I chose impact over comfort. I chose service over shortcuts. Is it expensive? Sure. But it is mine. I earned it. I lived it. I continue to live it every single day with pride, gratitude, and determination. And I wouldn’t trade that for anything. Because I love what I do.

One of the most profound and formative losses in my life was my paternal grandmother, Odette. I was her first granddaughter, and in many ways, I was also the most spoiled and the most loved—by her and by my entire family. From the very beginning, I was wrapped in her affection, guidance, and unwavering belief in who I could become. That bond shaped me deeply, and her presence remains one of the strongest influences in my life, even after her passing. Odette wasn't just my grandma; she was a mom and the most wonderful wife to my grandpa. Their love story was uncomparable, something really out of the movies, so much so, that she dies of a broken heart, when my grandpa died suddenly of diabetes. Odette was a pianist and a French teacher, but above all, she was the best human being I have ever known. Her home was filled with music, language, and warmth. She believed in beauty—in art, in learning, and in people. Education was never something she imposed; it was something she modeled with joy and purpose. Watching her play the piano or teach language wasn’t just about skill—it was about connection, discipline, and expression. She had a quiet strength and an elegance that made everyone around her feel safe and valued. As her first granddaughter, I experienced her love in a way that felt limitless. She protected me, encouraged my curiosity, and made me feel deeply seen. I knew, without question, that I mattered. That sense of being loved so fully gave me a foundation of confidence and compassion that I still carry today. When my grandfather passed away, I witnessed something heartbreaking yet profound—my grandmother slowly lost her will to live. It felt as though her heart could not exist without his, and in time, she followed him. Losing her felt like losing the emotional center of my world. Her passing shaped my life in ways I continue to discover. It taught me about love, grief, and the fragility of the human heart. It also taught me about legacy. Odette lives on in the way I value education, culture, and humanity. She is present in my commitment to helping others feel seen and supported, especially children and families navigating hardship. When I strive to lead with kindness, patience, and integrity, I am honoring her. Though she is gone, my grandmother Odette remains a guiding force in my life. Being loved so completely by her shaped who I am—and who I continue to become.

Supporting others with their mental health has been both a personal responsibility and a professional commitment throughout my life. I have helped others by creating safe spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported without judgment. As an educator, I work daily with children who experience emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. I approach this work with the understanding that behavior is communication and that emotional distress often shows up in ways that require patience, empathy, and consistency rather than punishment. Beyond my professional role, I have supported family members and members of my community through mental health struggles by listening, guiding them toward resources, and helping them navigate systems that can feel overwhelming. I have spent time supporting individuals in the Latino community by teaching English, assisting with education pathways, and helping with job applications—often serving as a bridge for those who feel isolated or intimidated when seeking help. Simply being present, offering reassurance, and helping people feel less alone has been one of the most meaningful ways I have contributed to others’ emotional well-being. My ability to support others is deeply informed by my own experiences. I have navigated significant loss, supported loved ones through mental health crises, and managed my own struggles with depression. These experiences have taught me the importance of compassion, emotional regulation, and self-awareness. I have learned that healing is not about having all the answers, but about showing up consistently and authentically. Through my studies and future career in education and leadership, I plan to expand my impact by supporting mental health at a systemic level. I aim to help create school environments that prioritize emotional safety, inclusion, and access to appropriate supports for students, families, and educators. As a future leader, I want to model transparency, emotional stability, and empathy—especially during times of stress and change. I plan to advocate for trauma-informed practices, strong behavioral support systems, and professional learning that equips educators to support mental health without becoming overwhelmed themselves. Ultimately, my goal is to use my education to transform lived experience into meaningful action. By combining academic knowledge with compassion and leadership, I hope to continue supporting others emotionally and contributing to healthier, more humane communities.

I’m a fan of Sabrina Carpenter because of the way she has grown into her voice—artistically and personally—without losing authenticity. Her career reflects persistence, reinvention, and self-awareness. Watching her evolve from early acting roles into a confident, self-directed musician has been inspiring, especially because she didn’t rush the process or try to fit neatly into expectations placed on her. What resonates with me most is how unapologetically honest her music has become. Sabrina writes with humor, vulnerability, and emotional intelligence, often naming uncomfortable truths about relationships, identity, and self-worth. There’s a sense that she has learned to own her narrative rather than explain it, and that kind of confidence—earned through experience—feels empowering rather than performative. Her career has also impacted me because it models growth without bitterness. She’s faced public scrutiny, comparisons, and setbacks, yet she’s continued to refine her craft and show up with clarity and intention. That perseverance mirrors something I value deeply: the idea that success doesn’t come from being flawless, but from staying committed to your path even when it changes. Ultimately, being a fan of Sabrina Carpenter isn’t just about liking her music—it’s about appreciating what her journey represents. She reminds me that reinvention can be graceful, that confidence can coexist with softness, and that finding your voice is often a long, quiet process before it becomes something powerful and visible.

Let me begin by saying that even as an "old woman", I consider myself a "swiftie". We absolutely adore Taylor Swift and everything that she represents, especially for the female population. One of the performances I find most moving is when Taylor gives her “22” hat to a young fan during The Eras Tour. On the surface, it’s a small moment, but emotionally it carries so much weight. In the middle of a massive, highly choreographed stadium show, she pauses to connect one-on-one with a child in the audience. That quiet act of noticing someone—choosing them, kneeling down, making eye contact, and handing over something symbolic—cuts through all the spectacle. What makes it especially powerful is what the hat represents. “22” is about youth, joy, and possibility, and by giving the hat to a young girl, Taylor is almost passing the moment forward—acknowledging innocence, hope, and the magic of being seen. You can see how intentional she is, how present she becomes in that instant. It doesn’t feel performative; it feels human. To me, that moment captures the heart of The Life of a Showgirl theme perfectly. It shows that even after years in the spotlight, Taylor understands that her impact isn’t just in record-breaking numbers or elaborate productions, but in the way she makes individual fans feel valued. That performance reminds me that true artistry isn’t only about being seen—it’s about seeing others.

Love Island Challenge: “The Mirror & The Message” Challenge Purpose This challenge is designed to test self-awareness, emotional honesty, trust, and communication—not just drama. It pushes Islanders to confront how they see themselves, how others see them, and how well their partner really knows them. Part 1: The Mirror Each Islander is taken alone to a private area of the villa with a full-length mirror and a camera. They are given three prompts and must answer them honestly out loud: “One thing I’m proud of in how I’ve shown up in my couple is…” “One thing I’ve been holding back or avoiding is…” “If my partner truly knew me, they’d know that…” These answers are recorded but not shown immediately. Twist: Islanders think this is private reflection—but it’s not. Part 2: The Message Later, Islanders regroup—but this time, each person receives a sealed envelope with a message written about them. The messages come from three sources: One from their partner One from another Islander One pulled anonymously from the public (viewer poll results) Each message answers the same prompt: “This is how I see you in the villa…” Islanders must read all three messages aloud. Expect: Surprises Hurt feelings Validation Awkward silence Part 3: The Reveal Now the drama hits. Each Islander watches a short clip of their own Mirror confession—but their partner watches it too, for the first time. Couples then sit face-to-face and answer: “What surprised you most about what they said?” “What did you think they were going to say instead?” “Did this make you trust them more or less?” No interrupting. No defending. Just listening. Part 4: The Choice Each couple is given two cards: “We grow from this” “We reset” They must privately choose together. means they commit to staying coupled and addressing what came up means they agree to sleep separately for the night and open themselves to new connections The choices are revealed publicly. Winning the Challenge There’s no traditional “winner.” Instead: The most emotionally honest Islander (voted by Islanders + public) gets a date of their choosing The couple who showed the best listening and growth wins a hideaway night Why This Challenge Works Encourages vulnerability instead of performative drama Tests real emotional intimacy Brings in the public without cruelty Creates organic tension, growth, or breakups Feels fresh, modern, and deeper than “who’s the hottest?”

My decision to pursue a career supporting the intellectual disability community is deeply rooted in both my professional work and my personal life. I work with individuals with intellectual disabilities on a daily basis, and through this work I have witnessed their resilience, individuality, and capacity for growth when they are supported with patience, dignity, and understanding. These experiences have shown me that meaningful support is not about limitations, but about creating environments where individuals are seen, valued, and empowered to reach their fullest potential. My commitment to this community is also profoundly personal. I am the parent of a child with an intellectual disability and an aunt to another family member with similar needs. These relationships have shaped my worldview and strengthened my sense of responsibility to advocate not only for my own loved ones, but for all individuals navigating systems that are often complex, under-resourced, and inequitable. Walking alongside my family members has given me firsthand insight into the emotional, educational, and systemic challenges families face, as well as the strength and perseverance required to navigate them. Being both a caregiver and an educator has deeply influenced my educational goals. I have experienced the gaps between policy and practice, between intention and implementation. I have seen how families are often expected to fight for services that should already be accessible, and how individuals with intellectual disabilities are too often defined by deficits rather than strengths. These realities have fueled my desire to pursue further education so that I can work toward change at a broader, systemic level. Professionally, I am inspired by the belief that behavior is communication and that every individual deserves to be understood. I strive to support individuals with intellectual disabilities by focusing on inclusion, self-advocacy, emotional safety, and meaningful participation in their communities. My goal is to help build systems—particularly within education—that support not only academic growth, but independence, dignity, and quality of life. Ultimately, I hope to make a difference by using my education to advocate for inclusive practices, strengthen family partnerships, and influence policies that promote equity and access. My lived experiences have taught me that change happens when compassion is paired with action. Through continued learning and leadership, I am committed to contributing to a world where individuals with intellectual disabilities are not merely supported, but truly seen, respected, and given opportunities to thrive. I am so grateful for the opportunity to help in and out of the classroom.

My life story has been shaped profoundly by loss, grief, and the long journey of learning how to continue living after those losses. Some of the people closest to my heart passed away in ways that left lasting emotional impact. My grandmother, who was the center of our family, died of what I can only describe as a broken heart shortly after my grandfather passed away. Watching her slowly give up on life taught me how deeply love and grief are intertwined, and how loss can quietly erode even the strongest spirits. Not long after, my uncle struggled with alcoholism and ultimately drank himself to the point of suicide. Losing him was devastating and confusing, and it left me with unanswered questions and a sense of helplessness. At that time in my life, I felt deeply lost. The people who had anchored me emotionally were suddenly gone, and I had to learn how to navigate the world without them. Grief became something I carried daily, shaping how I saw myself and the world around me. Years later, one of the most painful experiences of my life occurred when my own child attempted suicide. That moment changed me forever. As a parent, the fear, guilt, and heartbreak were overwhelming, and it forced me to confront my own long-standing struggles with depression. Navigating these emotions required strength I didn’t know I had. Through this experience, I learned that I am resilient, that I can survive unimaginable pain, and that asking for help is not weakness—it is courage. Meditation and journaling became essential tools for me during my healing process. Journaling allowed me to put words to feelings I couldn’t speak aloud, helping me process grief, fear, and hope in a safe space. Meditation taught me how to sit with discomfort rather than run from it, grounding me during moments of anxiety and emotional overwhelm. Together, these practices helped me develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and compassion for myself—skills that continue to guide me today. My decision to continue my education is deeply connected to these experiences. Education represents growth, healing, and purpose. I want to use what I have learned—academically and emotionally—to support others, particularly children and families navigating trauma, loss, and mental health challenges. Continuing my education allows me to transform pain into service and to contribute meaningfully to my community and profession. The biggest influences in my life are my loved ones—both those I have lost and those who remain. Their lives and struggles have shaped my empathy and sense of responsibility to others. I am also inspired by individuals who advocate for mental health awareness and emotional well-being, even if I have never met them. Their work reminds me that healing is possible and that sharing our stories can help others feel less alone. Through loss, I have learned that I am stronger than I ever imagined, deeply compassionate, and committed to creating meaning from hardship. These experiences continue to shape who I am and why I choose to keep moving forward.

My decision to pursue higher education at this stage in my life is the result of a long journey shaped by resilience, responsibility, and a deep commitment to service. I immigrated to the United States from Brazil in search of a safer and more hopeful future after experiencing significant trauma early in life. As the eldest of five children, I learned responsibility and perseverance at a young age. Those early experiences did not define my limits—they shaped my strength and instilled in me a lifelong belief that growth is possible, even in the most difficult circumstances. The process of starting over in a new country was filled with challenges, including language barriers, cultural adjustment, and the emotional weight of rebuilding from the ground up. Over time, these experiences taught me patience, adaptability, and an appreciation for the journey rather than just the outcome. Education became my anchor and my pathway forward. Through it, I found stability, purpose, and the confidence to advocate not only for myself, but for others navigating similar challenges. For over twenty years, I have dedicated my career to education, working closely with children—many with disabilities, behavioral needs, or limited support systems. As a parent of a child with autism and an aunt to another child on the spectrum, my professional work is inseparable from my personal life. These experiences have shaped my values around equity, inclusion, emotional safety, and dignity. I have seen firsthand how systems can either empower families or create additional barriers, and this reality has fueled my desire to pursue leadership so I can create change at a broader, systemic level. Community service has always been central to who I am. After living in the United States for over 30 years, giving back has become both a responsibility and a privilege. I have worked closely with the Latino community by teaching English, supporting adults in earning their high school diplomas, and helping individuals apply for jobs and navigate educational pathways. These efforts reflect my belief that education is a powerful tool for transformation and that access to information and support can change the trajectory of entire families. I am pursuing advanced education now because I am ready to expand my impact. I aspire to serve in leadership roles such as a principal or superintendent, where I can influence school culture, advocate for inclusive practices, strengthen family engagement, and support educators in sustainable ways. This scholarship would allow me to continue my education without the financial strain that often limits opportunity for working parents and community advocates. With this support, I will be better positioned to lead with integrity, transparency, and emotional stability—using my education not only to advance my career, but to uplift the communities that shaped me and the students and families I am committed to serving.

I am passionate about the special education teaching profession because it is rooted in honoring humanity, dignity, and identity. Special education is not about correcting differences; it is about understanding them and helping students recognize their own value in a world that often misunderstands them. Working with students who have diverse learning, behavioral, and communication needs has taught me that true teaching begins when a student feels seen, heard, and respected as they are. Professor Harold Bloom’s statement that “the purpose of teaching is to bring the student to his or her sense of his or her own presence” deeply resonates with my work. A sense of one’s own presence means helping a student recognize themselves as a meaningful individual with agency, voice, and worth. For many students with special needs, this sense of presence is often overshadowed by labels, deficits, or behaviors. My role as a special education teacher is to help students reconnect with who they are beneath those labels and to realize that they belong in the learning space just as they are. I guide my students toward experiencing their own presence by first creating emotional and physical safety. Students cannot discover themselves in environments where they feel judged, rushed, or invisible. I view behavior as communication and differences as expressions of unmet needs rather than problems to eliminate. Through consistent routines, positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and emotional validation, I help students build confidence and self-awareness. When students feel accepted and understood, they begin to recognize their own strengths and develop trust in themselves. My mission is to empower students with special needs to know themselves, advocate for themselves, and believe in their ability to grow. This includes teaching communication skills, emotional regulation, independence, and self-advocacy alongside academic learning. I want my students to leave my classroom not just with skills, but with the understanding that they matter—that their presence has value and that their voices deserve to be heard. Optional Fairy Tale: “I Am Lala” Once upon a time, there was a world that existed only in black and white. Everything moved the same way, spoke the same way, and expected everyone to blend in. In that world lived a girl named Lala—but Lala was different. She was full of color. Wherever she walked, she stood out, not because she wanted to, but because she could not be anything other than herself. The world tried to quiet her colors, telling her to fit in, to fade, to be less. But instead of changing Lala, the world began to notice something else: wherever she stood with a child who felt invisible, a little bit of color appeared. When she listened, colors grew brighter. When she created safety, colors spread. Slowly, children began to see themselves—not as wrong, but as wonderfully present. In time, the black-and-white world did not disappear, but it changed. It learned that color was not something to fix, but something to celebrate. And Lala understood her purpose was never to repaint the world herself, but to help others discover the colors they had inside all along.

My immigrant experience is deeply tied to my identity, resilience, and sense of purpose. I am originally from Brazil, and my journey to the United States was driven by the need for a better life—one rooted in safety, opportunity, and hope. As the eldest of five children, I carried responsibility at a very young age, and my early life was shaped by significant trauma. Leaving my home country was not simply a choice; it was a necessity. I needed to escape circumstances that were no longer survivable and find a future that allowed healing, stability, and growth. Immigrating came with many trials and tribulations. I faced language barriers, cultural adjustments, and the emotional weight of starting over while carrying the memories of what I had left behind. There were moments of fear, isolation, and uncertainty, but those challenges also forced me to develop resilience and perseverance. Navigating a new country taught me how to adapt, advocate for myself, and keep moving forward even when the path was unclear. Over time, I learned to appreciate the process and trust that growth often comes through struggle. Education became my pathway forward and the foundation for rebuilding my life. It provided structure, opportunity, and a sense of possibility when everything else felt uncertain. Through education, I found not only professional direction but also personal empowerment. These experiences reinforced my belief that learning can change lives and that access to education—especially for immigrants and marginalized communities—can break cycles of hardship and open doors to opportunity. Now, after living in the United States for over 30 years, giving back to the community that helped shape me has become an essential part of who I am. I have dedicated much of my time to supporting the Latino community by teaching English, helping adults work toward earning their high school diplomas, and assisting individuals with job applications and career navigation. I understand firsthand how intimidating these processes can be, and being able to guide others through them feels like a full-circle moment. It is my way of honoring the journey and ensuring others do not feel alone as they work toward a better future. These experiences have directly shaped my career aspirations. I have committed my professional life to education because I believe it is one of the most powerful tools for community transformation. My goal is to continue growing into leadership roles where I can advocate for equity, inclusion, and access—especially for immigrant families and underserved populations. My journey has taught me resilience, gratitude, and responsibility, and I carry those lessons with me as I work to create educational systems that honor lived experiences and empower individuals to thrive.

What inspires me to work with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder is both deeply personal and professional. I work with children with autism on a daily basis, and through that work I have seen their incredible potential, resilience, and individuality. At the same time, autism is part of my own family story—I am the parent of a child with autism, and I also have a nephew on the spectrum. These experiences have shaped not only how I teach and support students, but how I view systems, access, and advocacy as a whole. Working daily with children with autism has shown me that behavior, communication, and learning differences are often misunderstood rather than unsupported. I have witnessed how quickly children can thrive when they are met with patience, consistency, and high expectations, and how damaging it can be when systems are inflexible or reactive. These experiences continually remind me that autism is not a limitation—it is a different way of experiencing and interacting with the world that deserves understanding and intentional support. As a parent, my perspective is even more grounded in urgency and purpose. Navigating services, school systems, and supports for my own child has given me firsthand insight into how overwhelming and inequitable the process can be for families. I have seen how much advocacy is required just to access appropriate services, and how often families are expected to fight for what should already be in place. This reality fuels my commitment to making educational systems more responsive, inclusive, and humane for children with autism and their families. Looking ahead, I plan to help individuals with autism by working toward change at a broader, systemic level. I want to support the development of inclusive school cultures where children with autism are not merely accommodated, but truly understood and valued. This includes promoting evidence-based practices, strengthening collaboration between schools and families, improving behavioral and social-emotional supports, and ensuring that educators are trained and supported rather than overwhelmed. My goal is to help create environments where children with autism can learn safely, communicate effectively, and build independence. Ultimately, my inspiration comes from love, responsibility, and hope. I want the world to be better—not just more accepting, but more supportive—for my child, my nephew, and the countless children I work with every day. Through education, leadership, and advocacy, I plan to contribute to systems that recognize the strengths of individuals with autism and provide them with the opportunities they deserve to thrive throughout their lives.

I am pursuing a career in education because I believe deeply in its power to transform lives and communities. For me, education has never been just a profession—it has been a calling rooted in service, equity, and the belief that every child deserves access to meaningful opportunities. Over the years, I have come to see education as one of the most effective ways to create lasting change, particularly in communities that have historically been underserved or overlooked. While many people can point to a single mentor or leader who inspired their path, my inspiration has largely come from within. My motivation has been shaped by my own experiences, reflections, and a growing awareness of the needs around me. Teaching for over twenty years has given me a front-row seat to both the strengths and shortcomings of our educational system. Rather than discouraging me, these experiences have fueled a strong internal drive to do more and to serve in a broader capacity. Throughout my career as an educator, I have seen the direct impact that thoughtful teaching, strong relationships, and supportive environments can have on students. At the same time, I have also witnessed how systemic challenges—such as inequitable access to resources, increasing behavioral needs, and limited family support structures—can hinder both student success and teacher sustainability. These realities have pushed me to think beyond my own classroom and consider how leadership at the school or district level can influence change on a larger scale. I hold a master’s degree in education, and I am now pursuing educational leadership because I feel ready to expand my impact. I want to help shape systems, cultures, and practices that support not only students, but also teachers and families. Whether as a principal or eventually a superintendent, my goal is to lead with transparency, emotional stability, and a strong commitment to equity. I want to promote change and growth in ways that are inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to the real needs of school communities. Ultimately, I am pursuing leadership because I believe education is the pathway to community transformation. My inspiration comes from a deep sense of responsibility—to students, to educators, and to the communities schools serve. I am driven by the belief that meaningful change is possible when leaders are willing to listen, reflect, and lead with intention. Through educational leadership, I hope to contribute to systems that are fairer, more inclusive, and better equipped to support every child’s potential.
